View Full Version : wrist benefits
hi all.
i read all about this powerball thing since a few months ago, and i have some questions that maybe some of you can answer, and then i'll decide if i'll buy it.
first of all, how noisy is it? i mean, will it echo through my whole house when i exercise with it? :)
and second, how much good can it do for my wrist muscles? i'm just that type of skinny guy, i went to the gym for a couple of years and kindof put some muscles on me :D, but i still have very very skinny wrists (it's just a part of the body that developes so slow..) and i'm not happy at all with that.
maybe some opinions from you guys who tried it... could this thing help me, at least to a decent amount (the gym obviously didn't...) ? :(

Noise - for the first few days of using the powerball you will barely hear it yourself, but after a while the noise does build up. It won't echo through your house! but it will be loud in the room where you are using it.
Wrists - as you said, they are hard to develop. I think my wrists have got slightly thicker, but the benefit to my forearms and biceps is easily noticeable (about 6 months use, 10-15 mins per day).
After you get the powerball you will be amazed how addictive it gets, and your arms will be getting a workout while you have fun!

well i still go to the gym, so workout for my arms is not an issue :) i was hoping for more good news though, but i guess it can't do miracles..

There aren't really enough muscles in the wrist to enlarge...I don't think anything will actually bulk them up. The Powerball is definitely good for toning the muscles in the arm, but it's main benefit to the wrists is that it keeps them loose and flexible and pain-free...great to counter-act RSI and Carpal Tunnel, that sort of thing.
i'd better be wrong or else... :D
either way, until now i used some little thingy that you squeeze in your hand, for exercise, and it didn't build muscles, more like the contrary... it made my arms thinner :) so i gave it up. i guess this thing couldn't do more damage than that. i'll try it tomorrow

The only way to make your wrists thicker is to gain fat, simply because there are no muscles in the wrist itself, only tendons and veins and bones.
And I think that gaining fat is not what you want ;)
Still I would advice to buy a powerball, because after all, it's just great fun :)

The Force (Steven) is right, the muscles that control the wrist are located in the forearm. So when someone talks about strengthening their wrist they actually mean strengthen their forearm muscles which control wrist movement.
Trying to bulk up your wrist is like trying to bulk up your elbow or your knee it is a joint that hinges, not a muscle. Those who have thick wrists tend to be big boned. I suppose other than gaining fat you could become an olympic style weightlifter doing deadlifts with ungodly amounts of weights and after many years your bones would eventually thicken to compensate for this lifestyle and stress.
Why is it that you're after thick wrists anyway? You think chicks dig this attribute? I can see maybe if you wanted big forearms, big biceps, horse shoe triceps or big shoulders but thick wrists?
strange, huh? :P
i'm doing this just to feel better myself, although chicks digging this would be a nice side effect :) and, yes, i really need it.

hello there, my name is benjamin and i have studied the bodies adaptation to excercise in great detail in my course as i am studying sport science and physics at univercity.
when doing the right excercise on the wrists and eating the right food (pretty much as important as the excercise itself) then the bones in this area will actually become denser and slightly thicker, this is the same with the tendons and this causes the whole wrist to expand slightly... al be it different parts of the wrist will not actually grow significantly and the gain in size will plateau out fairly quickly but the whole wrist in itself will become more expanded and therefore slightly bigger.
but dont get me wrong.. these benefits arent going to give you 'monster' wrists. but powerballing will make the wrists themselves (but more so the forearms) significantly stronger
hope this was of some help to you.
regards, benjamin
** interesting fact - resistance training for 5 minutes a day far out weighs the benefits of taking calcium supplements for health bones **

although chicks digging this would be a nice side effect :) Well then don't let them see you Powerballing...I'm sure 99.9% of chicks will just think you look a bit silly! :p
My girlfriend does. :(

Yeah...and some girls even think the movements you make look like a completely other type of activity (especially those lads who are still single might do that :) ).

Well, your wrists don't really have any muscles...just bone and tendon and ligament and stuff. I gather that you might be able to increase the size marginally, but you won't be able to really thicken them up like you can your forearms or upper arms by using a Powerball.

mine too xDDD
actually my sisters, mother... and almost every woman i know think its silly
yeah, all think it's silly. but they sure like those big strong muscles :)) and they think they just grow naturally :)
any news? i still haven't decided if it would be useful to buy one. i think i might though, 'cause all the gyms (at least the cheap ones) are closed in the summer.

WHAT??!? You've still not got one?!?!
GET ONE!!
You won't regret it. :)
I've only been using it a couple of weeks now, and I found that the muscles in my forearm are already getting more definition. I am really imbalanced and my left wrist can fit most women's watches, but my right wrist is significantly larger, because I play many sports particularly tennis.
In my opinion, you should indeed be able to put on some bone mass especially because the powerball puts a lot of stress on the wrist at high speeds.
There are a ton of muscles in the forearm, so I think this fun exercise tool is totally worth having!
