View Full Version : Exercises for the underarms - Help!
Hi,
I just received my powerball today. Its awesome! Heaps of fun and highly addictive.
My powerball came with a sheet of different exercises to do when exercising with the powerball. One thing I am struggling with is the exercise for strengthening the underarms. The instructions say to try moving the rotor while keeping your wrist still and your underarm muscles will need to generate the force necessary to keep the powerball in motion. If I try not to move my wrist then the powerball starts to slow down and continues to slow down until I start the normal motion again (which means moving my wrist)
Does anyone have any pointers on how to do this exercise?

Hi Adelle,
With holding your wrist still is basically meant to make as small circular movements as possible. When you will try this, you will notice that the force generated on your wrist increases while doing that. I do not know whether it is possible to keep your wrist perfectly still and still keep the rotor running. It could be that you always need a minor circular movement. Maybe another person can comment on this?

Hi Adelle,
When you say "underarm", do you mean your tricep muscles?
The movement you need to make to keep the Powerball rotor spinning is a circular "stiring" motion. The easiest way to do this is to perform the motion mostly with your wrist, as this requires very little movement. However, it is possible to lock your wrist and either move your entire lower arm in a circular motion, or lock your whole arm and move it (from the shoulder) in a large circular motion. EDIT: This assumes that you have the counter of the Powerball pressed into your palm, and your palm facing away from you.
I don't personally find these movements beneficial though. I find that I get the best workout by getting the Powerball up to speed and then holding my arm in different positions, always concentrating on moving my arm as little as possible. The effort to keep my arm still, while still keeping the Powerball spinning, causes me to tense all the muscles in my arm, and hence they get a workout.
So if it was triceps you were talking about, I've found the best exercise is to hold my arm down by my side, as still as possible, and if I've got the Powerball in my right hand I'll be stiring my arm in an anti-clockwise direction.
But others will probably have different suggestions...

I was doing this earlier while keeping my arm straight and holding the powerball over my head, got quite the arm workout that way, all the way into the upper arms and shoulder. I wouldn't recommend doing it at very high speeds or, you know, with a metal... dropping the thing on your head could hurt a lot. :D But it definitely wroked the triceps quite well.
what i do is try to keep my arm almost straight and move it from the shoulder to exersise th under arm and if you have to only slightly move the wrist to build up speed
