i too had problems even gaining any spped at first,my friend couldnt explain how to use it,his best advice was 'feel the force'.some beeter advice to those struggling to even start it is,rotate wrist(lots of people just shake it) and start SLOW,very slow,if u cant start it at that speed make little adjustments, about one turn a second is a good place to start.when you have done it once you can get it up to speed easily evertime.it took me 20 times to even gain any speed after the string,i celebrated the first time i got 5000!now getting 10000 no problems,so im still useless.my much weaker friend is killing me.still i cant seem to use anywhere near all my strength

Powerballing is about strength, coordination, concentration, control, grip and technique. What I have noticed is that there is a group of people who indeed simply can't get control over the powerball (I have seen plenty of people not being able to powerball at all). Maybe this is because this group does not have the natural coordination and control what other people do have. It may also have to do with your sports background. There are several sports where hand coordination is very important. Then obviously, you are in a great advantage when using the powerball. I have 14 years of badminton experience for example and a couple of years of volleyball. That does help I think.

Now..your case..you managed to get out this group!! That is a great achievement on itself. So, don't worry and be happy....stay focussed, keep training and I do believe that you will reach high speeds too.

Best regards,

I can get the revs up to about 12k, but then I can't seem to hold on to it. I don't know what the problem is, because I'm a bowler, and I'm chucking 15lb bowling balls all the time. I also have a problem trying the smaller wrist movements. When I do, the ball just maintains the same speed. The only way I can build speed is with bigger movements.

I can't really speed the Powerball up without making larger movements either. Never have been able to.

With my left arm I manage to increase from 12500 (about my max, when only using the wrist) to let's say 14000 with keeping my wrist fixed and pivoting my underarm. At least..this is what I can learn from my own video. It's actually quite hard to explain. What my right hand does, looks more like the technique of Mark Chaplin (twisting the wrist and keeping the underarm more fixed).

Morning guys,

I generally start the Powerball like this:

Hold the Powerball with the exposed rotor facing upwards and your thumb placed on the 'bottom' of the ball (just beside exposed rotor on bottom shell) - just as if you were holding a glass in your hand with your thumb on the rim of the glass.

The by 'flicking' your thumb in a downward and forward motion you can get the Powerball spun up very quickly, and the only action really involved with your wrist is twisting in much the same way as it would using a screwdriver..

Hope its clear! :p

Regards

I know about this twisting thing, but I cannot flick my thumbs fast enough to get the rotor above its minimum rotation speed for some reason. Well...very very rarely I manage to do it, maybe one out of hundred.

Do I need to make a "How To" video? ;)

I know this is an old thread but I thought you made an interesting point. I have no sports background but am pushing 10k rpm after my first day. I bought the ball to help increase my strength and co-ordination to help me be ready to pick up a sport next year.

I have no sports background but i get tired very quickly doing it, the main problem i have is managing to keep a hold of the thing.

That? What does it have to do with this thread?

Because i had a 15360 error i thought was a score, but i didn't know of the error existing. Still there was no need for the sarcasm. http://www.powerballs.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I figured out the technique immediately and got over 8000 on my first ever go. I let my brother have a go and he couldn't get it going at all. I know what the OP's friend meant about "feeling it", you just sort of feel which way the ball wants you to turn it and then it gets faster so you get faster.
