Hi, let me introduce myself.

I am 17 years old and i live in The Netherlands. I'm a Bodybuilder/Powerlifter and i ordered a powerball to improve my grip, stamina in my forearm and get bigger forearms. I'll probably recieve it by mail within 2 business days.

I figured that the metal version (NSD Super Powerball) would be the best one for me because i like pumpin' iron (and i like bling bling :P).

http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/9976/superpowerball1sp.jpg

Later when i found this website i saw that there is a different ranking for the metal version, my question is why? Is it because it's heavier? Because i'd love to compete in the future once i've got the hang of it.

Yes, the metal is much heavier than the regular powerballs.
So, a separate competition makes perfectly sense.

Btw..nice to meet another dutch guy here. My name is Steven van Dijk and I live in The Netherlands too :).

I saw your movie in the ranking, well done!

Tell me, how long did it took you to get results? (getting more rpm).

Tell me, how long did it took you to get results? (getting more rpm).

It took me only 13/14 weeks to reach 14k+ (14204rpm). Oh..my first scores were around 10k btw...both left and right. And it took me 5 months to break that record again (14332rpm)..and then the last four months (until now) I don't even manage to approach my record at all :-( . Basically this is because of too much metal training I am affraid (thumbs are injured). Now I need time to recover before I can reach my old form again.

Best regards,

The Force
P.S. So be warned..don't overtrain..take your breaks and days off.

- 2 Dumbbells
- 1 Curlbar
- Bench Flat/Incline
- Squatrack
- About 400 lbs weights

My routine

I have a Upper Body/Lower Body routine at the moment

Day 1, UB Heavy:

- Benchpress - 5x5
- Incline Dumbbell Benchpress - 4x10
- Bent-over Rows - 5x5
- Upright Rows - 4x10
- 21 Curls - 4x

Day 2, LB Heavy:

- Deadlift - 5x5
- Full Squat - 3x3
- Shrugs - 4x10

Day 3, Grip workout
- Wrist Curls - Till faillure 4x
- Reverse Wrist Curls - Till faillure 4x
- Farmer Walks - Till Faillure 4x
- Static Holds - Till Faillure 4x
- Powerball workout - 30 minutes ???

Day 4, UB Light:

- Benchpress - 4x10
- Front Raise - 4x10
- Upright Rows - 4x10
- Bent-over Rows- 4x10
- Pullover - 4x10
- Triceps Extention - 4x10

Day 5, LB Light:

- Deadlift - 4x10
- Front Squat - 4x10
- Hack Squat - 4x10

My goal is to improve my grip so i can lift more weight.

If you have some suggestions to add, like how long i should train on the powerball each day please let me know.

Thanks.

Thats pretty crazy. Just be careful if you are new to the powerball. You will damage yourself if you use the metal for 30mins at a time.

I recommend about 10mins max for week at least, then build it up to 30mins over a month or so. Also, don't go for max revs at the start or your routine will be wrecked with injury!!

Yes, no matter how fit and strong you are, the Metal Powerball is not only capable of exerting a huge amount of strain on the muscles, but it will exercise muscles you don't normally target with weights. So as with any exercise device, use it gently at first. But I think you'll like it, and it'll be good to see some scores from such a dedicated body-builder.

(Just don't be surprised if you don't score higher than a lot of other, thinner people...it's just as much to do with technique as it is to do with strength.)

And welcome! :)

Yeah, not just muscle strain, watch out for blistering too, especially early on, the metal is a bit of a brute! Gloves, at least occasionally, wouldn't be a bad idea. My fingers blistered quite deeply and I work with my hands for a living! All the best.

Thanks guys :)

Just got home from work and i saw a package on the table, i knew it had to be the powerball!

So i quicky opened it up and it looks great, i can even see my own reflection in it!

I'm now trying to get it started without a cord and get the hang of the technique.

I'm very happy with it.

Well, i started it without the cord last night before i went to sleep :D

Highest score untill now is 9152, do i suck? :(

I really felt the burn in my forearms and i can still feel it now when i'm typing this.

I'll give it a rest today and i'm gonna start tomorrow again if my wrists are fully recovered.

Only thing that kinda sucks at the moment is that a friend of mine let it drop the first minute he played with it, now it makes the famous knocking sound :( I got spare parts that came with the metal edition but don't want to repair it already (and i don't know how to do it..). I'll try the 10.000 rpm @ 30 seconds trick from the website to see if that works first. One thing i know for sure that he won't get to touch it again :D

I'm wondering though, what will hapen if you fix the knocking noise with the 10.000 rpm trick and you let it fall down again, will it make the same noise again and can you repair it with the same trick again or will nothing happen because it's the second time?

I'll try the 10.000 rpm @ 30 seconds trick from the website to see if that works first. That'll REALLY make your muscles burn!!

The unfortunate thing with dropping a Metal is the weight of the rotor. I did it once with a "fake" Metal wrist ball, and the rotor axle penetrated right through the plastic inner track on the wrist ball, snapping it in two!!

The instructions for changing the components should be in the manual, and it's really very easy. Suggest you do it and then return the damaged bits to Powerballs for a replacement.

Tim.

Well i just opened it up and i couldn't see any damages/cracks.

I performed a search on this forum and possibly the sound it's making is a clicking sound from the counter magnet.

So i tested it and yes, everytime the magnet passes it makes the click sound. But it's kinda strange that i started noticing it after the fall, maybe i didn't notice it before?

Thats the reson I'm not going to bring my new metal into school! Just got it today - the force is amazing compared to the 250Hz. In sitting about 9700 but Ive been powerballing for quite a while (250Hz = 12857) - you're doing great!

The magnet on the metal makes more noise than on the regular powerballs. So, I guess that you just didn't notice it before in your excitement :-).

Got my new 350Hz metal today. That thing is a beast compared to the 250Hz Pro. Only managed 11100 after a short warm up. I figured I better cool it for a day or 2 because I had some tests done yesterday in the hospital and was told not to strain myself for 3 days, but I just could not resist trying out the new metal.
My 250hz speed is 13481 after 6 weeks of doing Powerball. I'm 56 years old but still want to keep in shape. I think the metal powerball will deliver.

11100 on your first attempts is not bad at all.

Just like 13481 after 6 weeks :-)

Magnet, since when was there a magnet on powerballs, i just thought that was a weight ?

The magnet needs to be there to register rpm on the counter. Like speedos on bicycles register a revolution of the wheel every time the magnet passes the sensor.

A magnet (mounted on the rotor) passing a coil (in the counter) causes a magnetic flux change in the coil which on its turn induces a current pulse in the coil. And this current pulse can be detected. It's just a matter of counting the nr of pulses on the terminals of the coil and you know how much rotations it made in a time period.

By "nr" I think "The Force" means number? :P
Nicely put! (Flemming's laws et al):D

Yes..nr=number. I am just too lazy to type :)

And..about this flux theory...this is something what all Electrical Engineers should know. There is always a lot of physics in the electronic engineer curriculum ;) .

If its any help, when you reach your maximum speed, hold it for a few seconds to let it register id say about 3-4 seconds, i noticed it with a few of my runs, then i held for a few secs it and it seemd to work
