View Full Version : What are other ex-record holders doing?

It's great to see that Akis has joined in with these forums, (though I hope he didn't feel pressurised into posting!) :)

It made me wonder what some of the other extremely high scorers have been up to. People like Phillipe Joseph and Jaco Snyman, both ex-world record holders back at the end of 2004, (when I first started Powerballing).

I hope they don't mind, but I took it upon myself to drop them both a quick email, mentioning the forums here and the updated scoreboards. This site has suddenly got more of a "Community" feel to it, and it would be good to have contributions from them.

It seems like a lot of the top powerballers stopped doing it as its been so long without a new score being posted.

Unfortunately Phillipe's email doesn't work. When I first started Powerballing it was Jaco who was the record holder, and I saw a video of him doing 14500 and was amazed...I could only do about 12000 at the time.

Then Phillipe appeared and took first place, very close to 15000.

Then Akis blew them and everyone else away, and we haven't heard from them since.

Certainly interesting, I'd like to see more from Mark Chaplin.

I think his 15k streak was at the peak of his powerballing year though, people seem to slowly lose their high scores. Would be nice to hear from him and hear that he's continuing his powerballing "career" :)

I certainly believe he can get higher with due training.

I heard from him that he still manages 14500+ scores quite easily.

So, he might be entering the scene again soon.

Jaco's email's bounced as well. Never mind.

As for Mark, he's alive and kicking and posting in forums, so hopefully he'll join us here soon too.

I have posted here like 2x, but yes im still around and actively powerballing trying to improve my score.

thanx bris..... I believe this 110% (and i will), i believe everyone can improve with with hard training. I definitly need to keep training hard to keep my #2 position because there are a lot of people moving up fast. So stay tuned!

The last couple of weeks I've done some hard training and I can tell because my arms have become more defined and they ache afterwards but even with 3 or 4 days rest my scores are lower than before :(

First of all you will definitly go through ups and downs with your score everybody does. I do wonder how you are doing your hard training though.... because if its a lot of endurance i.e. 90's and longer then it might actually be slowing you down, i know it did for me. Leading up to my peak score i always practiced just speed and 30's. But when i got one of the new counters i started practicing the 90's and longer endurance (to try and up my 90's record) and my top speed took a dive after about 2 weeks of endurance training. keep in mind that this was just my experience and im sure adrena1in will disagree... But anyway dont get too discouraged just keep training and have fun!

I'm Back!!!

To be honest I havent been practicing as much I whould of like to practice!
At the beginning of last year i started a new job and didn't have the time to play with the little sphere! But i have good news i'm back! i'm a full time student now and started on a training programme to get back in shape!

Currently i'm hitting scores ranging from 14000 up to 14500, but they are spread so there is no concistancy yet.

I'll keep you up to date with my progress and hopefully i'll be able to improve my current position on the board or just my current record!

Must say that the forum looks very good. Have'nt been here for ages!

hope to hear from you guys soon!

Hey, welcome Jaco. Good to see you on the forums here. You were the leader when I started Powerballing, and I remember seeing a video of you scoring around 14500 - in a shop it looked like - and I thought how amazing it sounded.

I'm still over 1000 behind though. :(

Good luck with getting back into form. Mark Chaplin, the current number 2, had a break of something like 6 or 7 months, and came straight back in with a 14600 then that 15188. Never know, perhaps you'll better that. :)

If I counted well..4 out of the 5 top5-players are now active in this forum? Or is Pako still missing here?

Regards,

The Force (still in top50, but for how long? :$ :$ :$ :$)

Yes Jaco,

Welcome back!

Its good to see you are still making time for your Powerball, and that you are still managing some very impressive scores - just like riding a bicycle eh? :-)

Just like to add my voice to the crowd of us who are looking forward to your new score submissions, and I'm glad you like the new forum!

Regards

Hi,

Welcome back, Jaco!

If I counted well..4 out of the 5 top5-players are now active in this forum? Or is Pako still missing here?

You can count me as active player, but resting for some weeks. I cannot (and should not) train with my injury. I must rest for 3 weeks at least and see what happens. Anyway, I never surrender, so I'll be back ;-)

And I'll try to avoid all those live competitions, where I only break my rest and not my records, and increase even more the time of my recovery.

question to AKIS: what do you do when you are injured? complete rest? spin at very low speeds? Since you started powerballing, have you had any tendonitis in your fingers or you know when to stop before this happens? :-)

AKIS: you should attend one of those live comps, it's fun. You can use the metal, and the others use regulars :p

Regards,
Pako.

Actually, I had experienced something like tendonitis in two fingers last year (caused of course by voracious, unceasing full output efforts). In order to recover, I had to avoid temptation and use the powerball only mildly for a while (I know that this may prove quite difficult :-) and applied ice sometimes and it was fully restored.

Hi Akis,

Thanks for the advice. I am suffering from some tendonitis in my left thumb too and I will take your advice although it is quite difficult as you correctly stated :-)

But let me repeat the question from my friend Pako which you may have missed because of this long post (yes he is always like that :-P ). Would you like to join our next live competition on Gyrotek?

I even would not mind you using the regular pro on that event. Then finally Pako is no longer nr1 :-) . No seriously, even your metal scores already below to the subtop of the regular scores on Gyrotek.

You can join the live competition (and in between the live competitions there is always some powerballs freaks around there too) via the following link:

http://www.gyrotek.net/chatlog.html

And in case you are using a tool like MIRc you will find instructions there how to connect.

Looking forward to meeting you there and so will all the others I assume.

Best regards,

The Force (Hopefully the future Dutch champ ;-) )

Ah don't worry my friend...you don't need to prove your scores when you are with us ;-). We all believe you are the world leader in powerball speeds.

Like I said..this live competition is also some social gathering in which people discuss their most precious moments in life, like the powerballrecords :-) .

Anyway...I hope I have convinced you now...The live competitions are about once in the two weeks, so next one will be half March. Obiw4n will correct me if I am wrong. More details will follow.

Best regards,

The Force
P.S. Just out of curiousity. What is your profession? Mine is patent attorney.

It's marine & mechanical engineer.
(Btw, we are far out of topic now and probably "Adrena1in" is already on his way to discipline us :-)

Ah...don't worry about Adrena1in, he doesn't bite :-P

So you work at the marine as a mechanical engineer? Sounds cool. I have electrical engineering (master degree) as a background and I am working, as a patent engineer (hopefully attorney soon), for a big dutch multi-national having +-160.000 employees ;-) . I bet you have some of our products at your place :-)

P.S. Maybe I'll start another topic like "What is your background?" to continue this thread.

Every precisions about the dates of the live comps are here:

http://www.powerballs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=733

and also on gyrotek.

There is no need to be the best on a live comp, it's for most of us funny and entertaining....some people are good and others like me simply aren't on good shape at the live comps, but it's always a nice powerballing evening... :)

After I do endurance training that's when I'm in a "hot mode" just like Akis says. On the 3rd day of powerballing I was going for high scores and I kept challenging myself for an hour and that day I went from 9,600 to 10,140 to 11,689 on a crappy( as in abused and scrached and grooves in the rotor support) Neon Blu Pro. After that I lost my powerball and now I'm waiting for the order and waiting for the "re-stock" of the metal.
