View Full Version : What's Akis doing?

What's Akis doing! Nearly three months without a show, come on there must be some metal(350Hz) stuff to tell. 16218 is beyond belief but that was18/11/2005 and 19689 is close to superhuman but that was 17/10/2005. Let's have some updates, from or about the exploits of the worlds foremost powerballing star!

Sorry should have put? not!

He's hiding in his hole after a record like usually...

I thought he was injured.

Hiding in his hole like usually?

Hmm...

That's a pretty unfair comment to make about the man Obiw4n.

Sorry Rory but the only man I don't know and I never saw for real on a forum, or on a chat and who is in top 10 for a while it's him...

If I were him I would at least participate to the stuffs which are provided to help the powerball community getting bigger.

I doubt Akis can't come here regularly...I already saw one or two posts a few months ago.

Someone told us he was flooded with emails and so on, but honnestly I really doubt it too....

I think what Akis does with his time is up to him really.

And have a feeling that we will see this guy back soon ;) (unfortunately :P, because then it will be tough to get the monthly leadership).

Or is Rory willing to exclude our powerball hero from participating in the monthly leadership? I mean..I think you should at least do this until some more guys are in the vicinity of his records.

But I have to agree with Obiwan. I really don't understand why he is not showing up on this forum. It would indeed be a great asset to the powerball community (increase the popularity of this SPORT) if he did.

Btw..I don't think that Obiwan intended to offend anyone with his remark. Let's just say that english is not his mother tongue (like for me) and that it is sometimes difficult to express your feelings in a strange language in such a manner that everyone understands what you feel. All native english speakers should keep this in mind.

Best regards,

The Force

I don't think he should be excluded from the monthly leadership, if he is the fastest that month then he has earned the right to be there, thats like saying Schumacher shouldn't be allowed to win the championship again because hes won it so many times.

I think it's fair to not let the same person actually win the prizes two months in a row, (or even perhaps more than once), but no, If Akis came along with a 16219 tomorrow then he'd be the February Leader and inevitable Winner.

At least the new scoreboards do still show recent improvers and entrants.

Rory

Thanks for your comments on this.

I'd echo Tim's opinion that what Akis does or doesn't do with his time is fully his own business and therefore should not merit such judgmental and otherwise [potentially] unfair comments.

You are certainly correct Steven; having him on here would add valuable powerball insight for all of us across many different areas of the sport and so I will make sure that these requests are brought to his attention in the hope that he can drop by and spend some time with us on the boards in the future if he has the time to do so.

Thanks for your feedback as always.

Regards Rory

I meant by my remark: I never saw a Champion which wasn't in direct contact with his competitors. It's like he were powerballing in a world alone and just bring his scores here from time to time....I think if he likes powerball like I think he does, he also has to take part of the community and time shouldn't be a problem for him since he spents a long time on his powerball.

That's only my opinion, but I know a lot of people agree with me because a lot of people shared this point of view with me either on the chats or forums I went to...

Concerning the winners on the scoreboards, it would be fair I think to let the best improver of the month win. If he already won a prize, then it's the second improver who wins...and so on...

I mean some people got to 14500+ without winning a prize because of a new record from akis...don't those people deserve the same prize as a guy who achieves 14400+ a month later???

If someday I achieve a 14500+ score (which for sure never will happen), I would keep it until Im sure to post a winner score... :D

Concerning the winners on the scoreboards, it would be fair I think to let the best improver of the month win. If he already won a prize, then it's the second improver who wins...and so on...I agree, and I thought that was what did happen before, but I might be wrong. Pako, for example, has won his prize already for January. Therefore Saucé Guillaume should win this months prize if he stays ahead of the rest. I think Pako ought to just have a red star next to his name and be highlighted with "This Months Score".

Hi guys.

Wow! It would be routine as usual, except that I am almost sentenced to death! :-)

It is true that I am slightly injured, mainly due to carelessness. Not a big deal actually, though it seems that it's enough to have me slowed down for some while.

If some fellows have been disappointed in me for any reason, I have to apologize as I never had such intention. However, there are a few things which need to be clarified, in order that no faulty impressions are left.

I believe that everyone would agree that powerballing has two main uses: Exercise and fun. And certainly the reason that most of us are participating in forums and scoreboards is fun. It is not our profession, it is not our sole activity, but we are here because we enjoy ourselves, we take the opportunity to compete, share our experiences and exchange views with each other.

The way and the extent to which someone chooses to participate, depends on their own limitations, the time they can afford and generally their personal convenience and temperament.

In my opinion, the service of each individual to the powerball community is valuable and unique. I feel that everyone’s personal contribution should be duly respected, no matter "how much" they offer and despite their experience or performance.

If we put our forum under terms of "must" or "have to" or "be obliged" and judge everyone's activity in our little society, then the fun element will be lost.

To this aspect, I believe that it would be better for all of us if we feel comfortable and relaxed over here instead of caring about being charged with misdemeanor.

After having said all these, I point out that I will be more than happy to participate in this forum and contribute as much as I can. But you should keep in mind that I generally have a tight occupational schedule and furthermore there are some other, time consuming, activities in my life (like the harpoon gun! :-). So do not shoot if I fail to meet everyone's expectations!

Akis

Hi Akis, it is really great to read your post :) i fully agree with you about the fun side and how it should be treated, but anyway, i will wait for your more frequent contribution to the forums - it would be really fun to have a champ near and share the experiences :)

Hi Akis,

It's wonderful to see you are still alive. I agree with your terms: this is all about fun and exercise. Don't feel obligated to come everyday, it's just everybody in this community is interested about you, but I'm sure they all understand your tight schedule.

I'm also injured and have slowed down recently. I hope you fully recover and impress us with another World Record.

Why don't you send all those amazing Metal videos you keep in secret? Don't be afraid... you won't be defeated that easily! Or send your second best score and keep the other one :-)

And if you happen to be bored, you could also check IRC #gyrotek channel, and chat with us sometime. Take a look here:

Noone's out to get you Akis, just been wondering how you're doing. You wrote a lot but said very little, we all know powerball's fun, is it the greek in you that goes into socratial philosophysing. I(we,I guess) would like to know some scores on the metal and how you're training round your injury, some savant words? Not a load of flim flam. Time's precious I know that, so use it wisely.

Obiw4n

So my request wasn't useless! There you are Akis...

I also understand that you may don't have much time to spend with us but we don't ask a lot, just a few visits in a month isn't too much to ask I hope :)

There is still a big unanswered question: Why are you so discreet about your metal scores? I mean every competitor here is curious about that...

And every metal owner was proud to give his record here or on gyrotek...

One more question maybe less interesting: I always see a greek in my stats on gyrotek, almost every day, is it you or maybe another greek powerballer which never subscribed there?

At first, congratulations on your truly excellent scoring which took you to the 5th slot Pako. Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any metal videos “in stock”. I set off quite well with the metal but I was fool enough to push beyond limits and get injured. So I was abruptly slowed down before having the opportunity to record a decent score. But I will be working on this as soon as I recover.

Well, there are a few million greeks out there! Good luck with your research :-)

I am afraid that there are no magical tips. Keep practising with endurance sessions, 30s are best I think. Don’t focus on getting a high score in endurance, just give your full energy out and fry your arm!

I am sorry mate...but Rory already shared with us the "secret" that you have passed the 13500 barrier with the metal and that you were on your way to the 14k. So, why not give us your exact record?

And like Obiw4n said, we believe you also without a video, so I also don't see the point in keeping it secret.

And now, don't start to claim that you have forgotten your score, because that I won't believe. Personally, I have the tendency to remember all my records and previous records for ever ;)

Akis, as someone tols me by reading your last interview, you said you were practicing 30min to 1h a day....

Do you take some rest when you train hard? I mean after 3 or 4 days at max training everyone is out of power or gets pains in finger etc...

Jordi Puig

How many people in top 100 are injuried?

Let's count:
1.-Jordi Puig: Tendinitis in middle finger. (4 weeks without powerballing)
2.-YOU: and what.

CTRL+C & CRTL+V

2.-Steven van Dijk (The Force) - Tendinitis in thumbs (2 weeks without powerballing) --> all thanks to metal ;-)

You bet I do! It is absolutely necessary. Your must give your muscles time to recover. Overtraining may have very bad results.

Evening chaps

Just to point out before persons unfamiliar with the product and who might be reading this thread take the wrong idea from the comments thus far; using a Powerball in a moderated way will not cause injury.

In fact Powerball's non impact qualities are reliably proven to rehabilitate damaged wrists and arms and provide soothing therapy for RSI, Carpal Tunnel, tendonitis etc...so long as you use it in moderation and don't go and max it out each time you play!

(Just as you wouldn't walk into the gym and start pumping a 10kg dumbbell for 200 rep's...never forget that Powerball is primarily an exercise product and must always be treated as one...albeit a highly addictive and very enjoyable to use exercise product! :-)

Thanks, Rory

Sorry Rory,

Didn't want to scare people off with my injuries. You are absolutely right. When properly used there is no harm in using the powerball. And it's my bloody own mistake to overtrain with the powerball metal.

And yes..it should be treated as a fitness/bodybuilding device.

Yeah I know that but how long do you rest after one of your hard training days?

Akis
23-02-2006, 17:00
I don't have a fixed pattern. It depends on my mood and energy.

What I'm trying to say is that hard training should be accompanied with proper intervals, in order that your muscles are given the time to "assimilate" the exercise and develop strength and formation.

For example:
Monday: Moderate exercise
Tuesday: Hard exercise
Wednesday: Take a break
Thursday: Moderate exercise
Friday: Very hard exercise

Then get some good rest on Saturday and try for a new record on Sunday. You may get surprised.

This is just an example of course, not the way to success. Someone should form an exercising schedule according to his or her own measure.

bris.

Guys, you need to leave the man alone.

There's a million and one reasons why he may not be telling you his score, and, alas it will come out one day, so just be patient. Heck you're all powerballers, that's the motto.

Yo Akis btw.
