Does anybody have an idea what the relation is between the rpm's and the torque of a spinning powerball?

I don't think it's linear as it's quite difficult to get some extra rpm's.

The faster you go the harder it is to keep it at the same pace since the work your hand is doing is becoming less efficient due to increasing 'loss' of energy to friction.

I don't think it's due to friction so much as just not being able to move your hand fast enough. It's a shame that the axle wasn't thinner. Then you could spin it faster, and get more torque, with a lower speed, more forceful hand movement.
I think for me personally, that's the limiting factor, not strength. I merely can't keep up with the speed.
