View Full Version : What if I lose the string?
Hi guys, Just wondering what I do if I lose the string for the powerball.
Is there another way to start the bloody thing.
Enda Nagle
Well Enda, I know that you can contact the guys in powerballs and they can organise a replacement for you.
Another alternative is to try and start it by another means - Ive even seen a guy do it with the slightest flick of his thumb - amazing!
Best of luck with it..

You can actually just use your fingers. Its all about technique :o)

Yesterday I found out that you can start it with your pants. If you got a jeans or something like that, just rub it as fast as you can away from you on your upper leg, and it should be at a reasonable speed to accelerate it with your hand...
Starting it with your thumb also works, but I think the starting speed is a bit lower with your thumb, so it's a bit more difficult to accelerate it.

So Simple, I am only 17 and can do it, it just requires practice.

Another technique is to use a table or another flat object. Just roll it fast over a table. This should make you able to get enough speed to start the "bloody thing" :-)
Kjell
buy a thin shoelace, and cut the bit at the end shorter, to about 6mm, and you're away.
Garry
Thumb is a very easy way to do it... Just place your thumb on the very closest edge of the rotator, and push it away from you as fast as you can. Very easy to do this way.
Also 17.

Careful with the pants/table/carpet. Read on here that the Powerball can collect materials and can alter the physics behind the rotor etc..
Richard
yea using ur panties or table isnt good cos they all stuff lots of tiny fibre into ur powerball that will .. well screw it up eventually.. I got my powerball in the mail 4 hours ago and I have already successfully started it with my finger a couple of times already :D
tomas
i can not start it with the string, i roll it on my forearm(the inside) and that works !!

Forget the lace i havn't used it once yet, use thumb or alternatively along the floor
Gk
you can get it started with your finger aswell
joe
After a few attempts I can usually start it with a flick of the thumb or by running the Powerball down my upper arm. I find I need about 1200 RPM to be able to get it going, and maybe 1 in 5 times I can start it without the string.
Tim
im 13 and i can do it so im sure u can
i run it off my hand up my middle finger =-)

In reply to cherish's post - I tried to copy the video that is on this site with no luck. The I followed this person's method and it worked a charm. Straight off the bottom of the palm up onto the middle finger and it starts up every time.

faisal
I just roll it off my forearm, once you get the hang of it, the string is useless.
Tristan
Some how I manage to start it with my thumb as i don't have the string... but now I can't do it anymore :( (after 6 month without my powerball) and it's reeally sad :((( But I know that it's possible

When you get it spinning with your thumb then with which technique do you accelerate it?
Roger
I found a method that works very well is to hold the ball with the counter to your palm, and the exposed part of the ball sticking out to one side (left or right as opposed to up or down). Then using the other hand, flat and vertical, strike it quickly past the rotor a few times in succession. That almost always gets it up to a speed that allows you to start it spinning up. I can never manage it with the thumb.
Steve
The cord will make it reach 3000rpm, which is more than enough to start it. I have found that is is enough with about 1000rpm to start it, and I have numerous times managed to keep it running after the speed dropped to 750rpm. I always start it nowadays with a barely visible flick with my thumb, which brings it up to around 1400rpm! Just practice, that's all!

the powerball in one hand (of course...), and sitting on a chair, i use my thigh as a flat surface.
