Starting Problems

I'm having a problem starting the powerball. It only goes maybe once every maybe 20 attempts. I only got it yesterday. Is it poor technique or is it possibly faulty. Is it just a matter of getting used to starting it??

Is this starting it by hand or with the string, if it’s by hand then it does take a while to develop the technique but keep at it and you'll get there, I find a sharp flick with my thumb starts it every time.
