View Full Version : Junior Scoretable?
Hi everyone! id just like to say thank you powerball for making such a wonderful product! i have had mine since christmas and i absolutely love it.
Would there be a possibility to make a junior highscores table as someone of my age (16) has no chance of getting anywhere near akis's score (for now at least! :p ). My highest so far is 10783 and i am aiming to break the 11k barrier maybe next week.
Thank You!!
Wilson

Our comments:
We have had requests like this before and I personally think it is a great idea Wilson. I will request that one of our web team add a Junior link to the board later - anyone up to 16 can submit and we will trust the integrity of those entering that they are, indeed, within the age limit requirements (perhaps a video from the top five entries to in some way calm the doubting Thomases looking on?).
Thanks again Wilson, regards Rory
yea i got a powerball just after christmas and they are great. i'm 17 and my top score so far is 12771 (269 in the score board) but i think i need to totally rework my technique or get stronger - one of the 2 lol
James
That would be sweet...i would have no problem with submitting a video for top 5...unless you are already on top 100 for the original scoreboard..i think there is a 14-16 year old on there not sure.

Is there any more news regarding the junior scoreboard?
Im 16 and my record is 11395 but I will be trying much harder with my newly cleaned powerball if a scoreboard comes :)

What about one for metal balls?
Im 15 and I guess my score of 11611 would get pretty high on junior metal board :)

hummm. I know a boy recently 14 ages who is doing arround 12800 rpm's in only 1 month spinning the ball. He is doing the work!!

If I coded and administrated a junior scoreboard, would that be something that 16 year olds and under would be interested in? I'm sure Rory would be happy enough to link to it, it would save the administration times for a powerballs.com one!
Please leave your thoughts on this,
Stephen

Don't know if this idea will be applied a short time. Also people demand a metal scoreboard, and for the Neon balls.. now for juniors, then for female juniors and junior strenght, juniors metal, juniors neon. etc...but keep insisting on it. Hope i'm wrong
Good Afternoon Guys,
I've been thinking about this for some time - I know that we need to improve on our current scoreboard system and try to cater for more categories, but one of the main things which has held us back from adopting this idea is the difficulty in authenticating submissions.
I would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on what we could do to imporve the scoreboards, and also thoughts adopting a manner in which we could accurately assign a class for submissions.
Thanks all, and once again, your continued interest in greatly valued.

Hi Enda,
There is something which you could implement for making authetication better. Actually, this system is already being used at Gyrotek.
What you could do is the following:
- Publish a non-predictable codeword on every first day of the month on this forum or website
- All score submissions must be accompagnied by a video on which this codeword is shown on a piece of paper (possibly, the name and the date included as well)
This system helps to prevent that people start to save score submissions for the next month.
Just a thought,
Best regards,
The Force
Or just send all your people directly to gyrotek and I'll take care of that properly :D on our scoreboards...which btw will soon be improved...
Competitor? Im actually affiliated to powerballs.com don't forget...
I don't sell any competitor products except theirs...
Don't know where the problem is...and did you really think I thought they would accept it??? It was ironic...
I still think if they can't handle such a big scoreboard then why adding 3 more boards lately?

I was only being ironic too. :)
Okay im reassured then :D, sorry if I sometimes have a bad tendency to take things on the dark side :s

Hi Steven,
Thanks for that - a good idea alright. What I was more worried about though is from the point of view of a junior scoreboard, how could we verify that it is in fact a 'Junior' who gets the score and not someone older?
We could get videos, but I would rather not have to get everyone email us a video of their score... this is the main reason why we have held back on introducing the Junior scoreboard thus far.
Regards

What if only the 5 first ones on the list (or over 13.5k?) would have to send a video?

Ok...a good solution for that is to make it obligatory that people send a scanned copy of their passports. The passport photo together with the video as least provide some certainty that we are dealing with a junior.
Of course, some people may find it too much of a burden to send in copies of passports, but well...it just depends on what you really want. The more certainty you want the more burden you put on the participants. Obviously, a nice compromise between low-threshold and ultra high security should be found.
So, I hope you will appreciate my suggestions. Appreciation in the form of a free (pair of) powerballs is highly appreciated ;)
(Please don't forget my solution for the powerball input device problem (relating to the Decathlon game) which Rory posted, that makes already too valuable suggestions ;) ;)

P.S. The reason why I ask this is also because I am very curious to test my first 250Hz Powerballs. Until now my main supplier is a guy who you guys know very well, but for whom I cannot make advertisement here ;)
Thanks Steven,
I too had throught of the idea of the passport, but wonder would people go to the trouble of creating the video and also scanning a [potentially] sensitive document - I would be afraid of the board becoming unused or stale if we were to adopt such an approach... would you agree?
Thanks

I just don't know. If all people in the world would be as addicted as me, they would do it. But I am affraid they are not ;) Nevertheless...why don't you give it a try? I mean...you will notice it quite quickly if our juniors find it too much of a burden to submit their scores accompagnied by a scanned passport.
Above that...any sensitive or private information can be easily wiped of the scanned photo anyway.

Not sure its a good idea to advocate scanning a passport as I thought it was illegal to copy a government document, could be wrong though.

Well...I am not an expert in the english jurisdiction, but in The Netherlands they make copies of passports all over the place (especially banks or other financial instances).

Actually, I am quite sure that there is no such a thing as a copyright on documents like Passports or other identity documents.

And now that I am thinking further I got the following idea.
Why not make some kind of registration procedure for junior participants, which they only need to do once (and that may include the passport verification). Then all subsequent score submissions are less of a burden for the junior, because they only need to submit photos and videos (and that is probably only for the top10/20/50???)
Obviously, the junior's date of birth can be stored in a the system, so it's quite easy to detect the moment where the junior has become an adult :), and then he can be kicked from the Junior scoreboard.
Just a thought (a good thought I would say :P),

And I have another suggestion for Rory and his RPM friends :). Why don't you make a separate table with all monthly winners in it? The way it is done, information gets lost in case a person was a winner in one month and leads the next month. Better to keep this kind of information apart. At least for the winners. The montly leader should indeed be highlighted in the normal scoreboard.
Regards,
The Force
They wouldn't need to be kicked from the board, that's losing them their well earned publicity.
You may grow as an individual but your magical powerballing trails should remain behind you.. thus the highest score should remain static at ALL times for the participants, even if they grow out of the board.
Who knows, maybe in the future juniors will be competing with their own offspring :D
