New Competition

Hi all,

I just feel like launching a new competition. The idea is simple.

1) Competition 1: Max rpm with flick start
I haven't tried this one yet. But I do know that I s..k at flick start :D .

2) Competition 2: Max rpm with cord

I tried this one and my record so far is:

2985rpm (I manage 29xx scores consistently).

Just curious how much rpm you guys will reach.

Although the string start caused quite a few scratches on my 13.3k ball i had fun:D ;)

LOL, nice competition. I tryed the flick start..., I don't know how you can do 2.2k xD, maybe in a hot mode, but just reading this post, I did: 1.500 (the best):D :p (Don't try too much this or your rotor will die soon ;) :D )

I first tried flick start, and managed 1.5k scores, i suck. And my elbow was hurting from that movement, so I didn't want to continue.

However, I did a lot better with string: 4018

(2 strings died :D )

I think that the ball should be held steady by the other hand on the table when starting it, in order to avoid snatching rpm that don't count. 3901 string start, 3050 flick start for me.

(Actually you'd better focus on serious training in order to improve your tiny scores, instead of inventing new competitions Mr. Force!) :p :p :D :D

(Though the invention of dual league was quite cool I have to admit! ;) )

Question about the starting though, I usually start with a single middle finger flick. But are we including a separate category for multiple flick starts with any finger?

My speeds:
1.7K single flick
1.5K multi flick
3K string

I found if I turned my ball over straight after the flick so the counter is facing up my score were like 1000 revs better:confused:

No definitely no extra spinning going there is no acceleration or noise change and the ball doesn't even move around it's tracks. It's just weird. It will even increase in score a second or so after I turn it

hmmm, I'm not sure about that last one.... when you said turn it over I assume it was opposite the direction of the rotor (along the same axis).

Does the counter take some time to collect/calculate the RPM? Cause if you look at the counter while accelerating, it doesn't update in realtime, but rather after certain time intervals?

And further, I just can't help being quite inventive. I have been a Researcher for more than 6 years and I've been a patent attorney for more than 4 years now, dealing with inventors all the time ;) ;) .

Stay tuned, because I have more competitions in my mind :D :D (one of them is actually quite weird I think :p ).

And I am sure I won't powerball until coming weekend. Study duty, and above that I think that my hands/arms need some rest.

Nice thread LOL. I had posted a thumb-start thread a long time back, but looks like the community is much more competitive nowadays! I will give this another try, but I'm pretty sure my flick start best was between 2200-2400... not sure about the string. (I shall try :D) Also, do you have to start it with your thumb? Because I have hit over 3000 before using my whole hand, not sure if I could repeat that however.

I think Akis has a point about how the ball should be set still. Like Robert's observations, I too have found that I can occasionally 'trick' the counter to read a higher speed by moving the ball around or upside-down. Also, I think that many counter errors are inevitable at such low speeds, since sometimes the same flick will read anywhere from 700 rpm to 1500 in my experience.

I know what you mean, sometimes i know that i hit 2000+ rpm but it shows the old score which is about 1500 and it just dont get higher...
