Thought I'd start documenting my progress.

Had a short metal + plastic session today. I used my techno to warm up, then had some 30s and a 90s on the 350 with not-so-amazing scores. After that I cooled down for a few minutes before jumping into some plastic speed runs and ended up ending the session with a new 250 record of 12 983!!! So close to 13K, but I guess that's for next time.

About 4 years ago (age 14), after I received my first PB (Techno) for Christmas, I carried a high score of 12 050 RPM for a really long time. Though come to think of it back then I never really cleaned it or made any strength runs. After a few month I lost my powerball... I eventually picked up some neon/reg 250s and started it Powerballing again and eventually I even found my Techno. It's been a slow and steady climb since I've started, and now that I've started again I'll continue to work to my goal of 13.5K :) Wish me luck!

Gongratulations jihmmie:D :D :D Now 13k is just a tiny step infront of you.:) Keep practisingand soon you'll get that really-wanted 14k;)
I'd suggest after warmup or anything to rest for 1-2 min. maximum because then you'll be really cooled down and not able to reach a hot mode. That's what i do and it works:D
Wish you good luck:D

Wow, had a 2 hour session yesterday night with a buddy of mine. Some highscores achieved between the two of us, probably the most competitive session I've had yet.

I warmed up on my old Techno for the first 10 minutes hitting 9K-11K+. After that made some speed runs on his neon and was hitting 11K - 12K, then switching to metal. No amazing scores on metal, but after I ran some scores on my buddy's neon again and I beat his highscore with a score of higher 12K+. He picked up my metal and broke my metal score of 10 247 with his 10 360. I went back to train on metal for a bit more and then took a break. Cleaned my metal, let it cool down as it was getting very warm. I took out my 250 Pro and took some speed runs walking away with 13 257!!!!! Took some more speed runs and the scores kept declining, I decided to call'er quits when I was struggling to hit 11.1K...
But now the 13.5K (top 400) doesn't look too far away. I'll need a day's or two rest before I'm up for another session like that though.

Congrats on the new score, don't give up.. :D
Also I did'nt knew the pb existed for that many years.. I only knew it this year and my top is 11,480 (with the techno) so it means I got quite a good score since im getting closer to you (not alot but still :D)
also, I can tip you, because im using my techno most of the times at class (which has airconditioner) it cools my body out and especially my hands, so when I do runs at class, I dont feel much pain as im used to do while im at my home, so try cooling your hands and hope for high scores :D

All the best,

Ron

Thanks for all your kind words of encouragement! Thanks ESL, I'll keep at it! I gotta wait for some blisters to heal before having more sessions though...3 blisters on my right pinky in one session, its never been that bad before...

I'll have to try your A/C advice Ronsar, though it's getting pretty cold out (Fall season) and the temperature's dropped quite a bit already :(. In the summertime we can go up to high +30s and mid +40s Celcius, and in the winter time we go down to low -30s and mid -40s...we're averaging about +18 these few days, so I hope it'll remain warm for a little longer.

And Xaverr, I've definitely got to keep doing a better job with my signature...

Had two sessions last week. The first one got me up to 13K+ 3 times, but not hitting my high record. After a few more runs I started to get worse scores and stopped.

Then I had another short session a couple of days later. I warmed up briefly with the old and broken techno (waiting for new rotor in mail). Then I immediately whipped out the Amber 250 Hz Pro and made some runs. Again nothing too impressive, mid to high 12K, then it started dropping to low 12K, then high 11K. Sat down, took a break, opened up the powerball and cleaned it out. Found that the square and round washers had fused themselves together and I separated them. Reversed all my washers (for the first time on this powerball) and gave it a few more runs. 13 285 RPM!

Not too much of an improvement, but I did improve as well as find a new technique. Before I used to always have my arm down (spinning to the outside or clockwise) beside my body, but I found that if I spin into the air I can use more of my biceps and shoulders when powerballing. I'm not sure yet if this is a good technique or just a different technique, I'll keep you posted though.

Hey Jihmmie! You've got some good scores cookin'! Best of luck on making top 400 soon. :D

I took out my 250 Pro and took some speed runs walking away with 13 257!!!!! Took some more speed runs and the scores kept declining, I decided to call'er quits when I was struggling to hit 11.1K...
I'll do that sometimes, keep going and going and going until I'm well below 12k and sometimes even down to 10k! For the most part, record high speeds seem to come after a good warm-up followed by a several minute break. But you can carry on the hot mode by getting plenty of rest between speed runs (at least two minutes) while running the ball at a slow relaxed pace to keep your muscles warm.

Wow, what a night.

My sister had a friend who dropped her Neon Green Pro powerball and it began making the rutty klunk klunk klunk sounds. I powered it up, confirmed the klunking noises, opened her up and found MULTIPLE ruts (4, most likely two severe drops). I tried blasting out the ruts, with no luck, then I tried putting my metal rotor in to speed up the process :D

After 15 minutes of 9k (top speed close to 10K, low speed maybe low 8K high 7K) it was incredibly more smooth than it was when I began the repair process! I was also incredibly warmed up... I managed to mostly remove 3 of the 4 ruts, unfortunately there is still one rut which is very prevalent in the track. I would have kept going to see how close I could get to removing that last one rut, but a secondary track/groove is starting to form the weight of the metal rotor...oops.

I took the opportunity, now that I was warmed up, to take some speed runs on her neon green ;) I hit a 9.9K with metal rotor in neon green Pro, and then I put in the neon green rotor back and hit 11.8s, 12.3s, 12.5s, nothing special. I then took a rest (2 minutes) and took out my own Amber 250Hz Pro. Immediately I was hitting 13K! I did a few more speed runs and walked away with 13 303 RPM, I called it quits when I was hitting :o low 13s and bordering 12s again:eek:... Slowly but surely, that top 400 is coming any day now!

Had a few sessions today...maybe that was the problem... No good news for today. Perhaps a few days rest is in order...

Another friend brought over his powerball for me to check for "clunks." There were atleast 14 ruts between his two tracks, Who would have thought it could be dropped so many times:eek:. So...we put in my metal rotor:D...got out most of the ruts, and the deeper ruts we only managed to smooth into moderate ruts as opposed to deep ruts (I remembered to stop before carving a track inside his track this time:)).

After two hours I was out running some errands and stopped by a friend's house to check out his new neon red rotor replacement. He hadn't been able to break 12K (his record being 12.59X) eversince his old rotor fins cracked. We opened up his powerball to check it out/clean it out and found 2 deep ruts in his upper sphere and heavy wear on his bottom track. Having a quick half hour session I walked away with only some mid 12K scores, lots of 11K scores, and a handful of high 10K scores, and some sore spots on my hands (very slippery powerball, mostly due to the loose grip band). He was htiting 10s and 11s, but only hitting 12.3 once :(.

I went home and pulled out my Amber 250 Hz Pro. Revved it up, felt like a good run, but only saw 11.9K, then I gave'er another run, 11.8K, then repeated, 11.8K, 11.8K, then decided to take a rest. Opened it up and cleaned it, noticed circle washer was almost worn down to nothing, put it back together and gave it another run. 11.6K, decided to call it a night:mad:

Powerball monster garage, isnt it? :D,
Ive also figured out that theres some problem with the circ. washer that makes it wear out quite fast... well I cant expect it to last forever...
Hope youll make a new record soon :P (you should work on some endurance I belive.)

Good Luck,

My sister asked me to take her shopping today, so I brought my metal... Didn't expect to get any new scores, but when we were heading home I found a grip position that really work and worked it up to a new record 10 683 RPM (Metal). Old record was under 10.3.

Grip is such a major factor with the Metal, and can make hundreds or even thousands of revs difference. Well done on 10.6k, but if you can do that then you can do 11k. ;)

I was powerballing from my classes to my car in the parking lot (10-15 minutes?) and when I got to my car I felt really warm (even in -5 degrees celcius:eek:) so I took off my jacket, whipped out my 250 Hz Amber Pro and give it a 13 623 RPM!!! I'm in the top 400 now! I haven't taken the picture yet though, will have to wait till I get home later tonight to make it official :D

I gave it a try with my metal too, though my arm wasn't fully rested, and I squeezed in a few extra rpms in my Metal Score. It's still in the car so I don't remember what it is right off the bat...I think, if I remember correctly it was 10 683 RPM.

Is that a challenge? Surely you're much closer than I am to 14K, but I accept!

Cool! you almost catched my RH :D Congrats!
I thought did! I thought I hit a new record today (13.8K) on a signature:eek:. I was powerballing from class to my car in the parking lot and I was hitting 13K, 13.3K, 13.2K, 13.5K, 13.6K and what appeared to be 13.8K!!! But it was on the wrong setting (current rpm) and the score was removed before I could actually see the score (should have did an Ed Tech to check the score :(). I tried furiously again and again but was only hitting low to mid 13K.

When I got to my car I pulled out my speed ball and was unfortunately only able to hit mid 12K:confused:. when I dropped below 12K I called it a day. When I got out of my car I gave it another run but was only able to hit low 12K. I think I can actually achieve higher scores in a hot/cold mode (cold outside). Ronasor recommended powerballing in an airconditioned room for better grip...I think it works ;)! When I got home though I was only hitting 11.9K max, I cleaned it, switched out a different support band and different washers from a less used neon, and was only able to reach 12.6K . I'm not sure if it is the ball or if I need rest...I probably DO need rest though...

I'll keep you posted and will write again soon! I've never been any good at putting myself at rest...

Just had a 10 minute warm up (a few speed runs, then the rest on 30 second techno runs). Pulled out my 250Hz Pro and pulled a 13.1K, which felt good (haven't been able to hit 13K on that ball since Thursday!) then tried again 13.0K, then tried a 30 second (did better than my techno 30s warming up), and then tried two more 12.8K, 12.9K. Now taking a 5 minute break before giving it another go.

jihmmie
13-11-2007, 04:50
...Finished taking a break, went to wash my hands, picked it up and spun a 13 652 RPM!!!

Not a whole lot better than my previous, but then again I was worried about not being able to hit 13K since last Thursday:confused:

I put down my powerball, recorded my score give it another run and got 13 637 RPM...

jihmmie
13-11-2007, 05:15
...Ok, so I still felt really pumped after those runs so I rested a few more minutes, cleaned out some support band debris from the tracks, washed my hands with dish soap, and pulled a 13 861RPM!!! Trying once more I received a 13.4K, so I took another minute break, took a picture, and after washing my hands again tried rotor out instead of rotor in and then 13 901 RPM:eek:!!!

Tried once more, 13 851 RPM, and a few more again, 13 283 RPM, 13 467 RPM, 13.4K, and then decided to call it a day:D

Had another session tonight. Found out my sister and her 15 year old friends were playing around with them yesterday. I wasn't too happy...

So I had another session to see if any damage was done, but found out the damage was mostly in my arms from the 14K session two nights previous.

I probably made at least 30 speed runs (not to be confused with 30 second runs). Mostly hitting 13.4K, sometimes maxing out at 13.5 or 13.6, and then almost always tuckering out to high 12Ks followed by a few minutes rest before starting some more series of runs. I did try out a new Blue 250 Hz Amber I have been saving (brand new!). I must have hit 13.4 or 13.3 a minimum of 20 times tonight though, so I know I'm starting to be more consistent 13K (from two weeks ago when I just hit at the time's record of 13.303K). During every run, though, I had great grip and my technique perfectly spun and spiraled into concentrated small circles, but my arms gave way early when I knew I could have pushed it further. I think this calls for rest...who knows, maybe I'll 'run over' the 15 year old Peter Mayhew when I'm rested up :D Or maybe at least I can update my score before Tim finds time to update the board :D :D

Great work Jihmmie.

Although gettign records is the best feeling, becoming consistent is also very satisfying. I often find after hitting a new record the next week is well spent trying to be consistent at a speed close to your record. That then allows you to push on to new and better scores.

After a week's rest, my scores didn't improve much and I was left kind of let down. But having three sessions in a row now for the past 3 days has been proving, like James said, to be somewhat consistent. well...not really.

The first night sucked. It was a short interrupted session that went horribly. I walked away with probably a 13.2 tops, hitting anything from 11.7K and up, but hitting more frequently around a 12.7K range (not too impressed either).

Then the second night, yesterday, I became more consistent. My techno scores (always way lower than average) were around 11K to 12.3K, and my 30s were hitting around 5.1. I then tried some Ed techs on techno (if you haven't noticed, its my warm up and demo ball...) scoring a considerably worse 4.7K.

Tonight it was a little more satisfying...looking forward to a session tomorrow:D. It still fluctuated lots, still haven't really harnessed, properly, my energy levels and my technique. My lowest tonight was 11.8K, but I my 250Hz Amber speed ball I was hitting lots in the 12.6 range, and maxing out at about 13.4K; my new 250Hz Blue I was hitting lots in the 13.4 range, maxing out at 13 910 RPM (record being 14 055 RPM on old speed ball). Tried some grippers on my speed ball and am doing quite a bit better on my 30s: 5.7K (I'll try 60s and 90s after I can push that to past 6.0K). All this was done after about an hour and a half of Wii Boxing...

I think I'm definitely looking forward to a session tomorrow! my last video (13 906 RPM) qualifies any scores up to 14 198 RPM ...I probably won't hit that high, but it'd be nice to see the flashing 14K again tomorrow :D

Mmm.....is this actually allowed?

When you break your record but you do not have it on tape, you simply use your current video as evidence? (which then works as long as you do not break your record with more than 2% of course).

To me this sounds a bit weird as this approach is quite sensitive to cheating.

The Force

I understand your side on this view of the matter also TheForce. The rule is quite useful for people who are not convenient to record every run in every session, and like myself, quite frankly, I wouldn't want to have on video any of my high energy attempts which come out with low end scores;).

Eventually, though, when/if I'm in the 15K league I'll have to video tape every run...that's not for a long while though I'm afraid...

So yesterday after an hour of badminton and an hour of Wii Boxing I couldn't seep so I ended up having a session till about 2:30 AM (even though most of my limbs were exhausted, go figure).

I topped of at about 13.4K plastic, and made two 30 second strength runs and ended up with 5.7K then 5.6K (nothing special, but slowly improving).

After that I whipped out the metal and tried further developing/adapting my plastic grip for using metal. First go I ended up with 10.6 (close to previous record), then with each additional run it kept going up: 10.6, 10.9, 10.9, 11.1, 11.1, then back down to 10 and I decided to call it a night. Well, not really.

I gave a few more gos on Plastic trying to see if I could hit that 14 again and cracked my finger tips (dry hands, frequent liquid dish soap washing, excessive fingertip strain). So I stopped after another 13.4K and a deep crack on my index finger tip, side corner of my left thumb, cracked skin of right middle finger knuckle, and some bruised knuckles on the palm side...:(

Congrats Jihmmie for you record!, but I think if you can make 14k plastic, you can do at least 13.5k+ with your Metal... (My Metal Plastic score are very similar...):) , try to spin a little more your Heavy Ball (do you have the same tech for both?, I do and its works very well....)

Wow! I don't know about hitting 13.5 Metal... maybe I'll need to pick up a good glove before I can do that. When I was experimenting yesterday I tried adapting my plastic technique into using metal, though, I still don't have a set metal technique yet.

No bear attack, a broken teapot cut the side of my pinky side of my hand.

The bleeding has stopped, bonded very tight now, it is probably about 3-4 milimetres deep, but the bleeding stopped so I had a few quick runs.

I tried a RH UPC, the second one I've ever tried and I got 41 456, the highest RH 30s was 5.9K, and the highest RH speed was 13.7K. All Grippers.

I haven't taken off the bandage off yet so I don't know how severe the cut is, but it stopped bleeding very quickly.

Ok, so didn't have an official session tonight, but had some random cold spins here and there throughout the day. I did try a dual run though hitting 25 068 RPM...and found that I apparently really suck. Armitage, Javier, how far behind am I? My left hand is a whole 1000 RPM below my right and it really makes it hard to coordinate, but I'll get better... (video linked in my signature).

As for my hand, it's gotten better. It still hurts, but the wound is dry and well clotted. Probably getting a mild infection though, will upload pictures soon...

EDIT: In addition to my dual run attempt, I had some female friends video taped to bring up the numbers in the ladies metal board...and my high score was erased during one of their runs :( But it will be beaten! And soon! I hope!

Check the link Jihmmie it doesn't seem to work??

Just watched it by getting there through your user name, keep practising it will come. On a note with video evidence, try and show the video of your score with the ball spinning, it isn't uncommon for the ball to show your previous high spin when you restart it and this isn't always what your spin was. This can obviously be confirmed on powerballyzer, but it doesn't leave it open for question.

Nice work though

I just started a light endurance session... and I dropped my speed ball.

I was starting my 14K ball and I managed to flick it out of my hand; it hit the hard kitchen floor fast, and bounced 6 to 10 inches before I could grab it out of the air.

The bottom track is fine, but the top track is toast with two massive craters and the rotor now has the vibration of the doomed. My heart literally ripped in half when it happend, all I can do is wait for Philip and hope that the replacements will be able to work up to 14K soon again...:(

Ok, so its been many days since my Speedball was dropped, and also many days since my last session.

After all the Telford Inspiration, I couldn't help but have a session tonight. No new speed record though, but I did hit some really encouraging scores...

I hit
-13.6 at least 10 times, but oddly never any 13.7 or 13.8.
-10.8 Metal (not a night for metal)
-13.5 about 3 times,
-13.4 about 5 times
-13.9 three times tonight

I've only ever hit 14K once, and now I've hit 13.9 for the fifth time (13.910 and 13.906 from before; 13.982, 13.958, and 13.915 were all tonight)

If I had my worn in speed ball tonight I would have probably broken 14.1 or low 14.2K, maybe. But tonight was entirely up to my backup balls :( I did learn a lot about my technique though...for some reason I'm starting to do a bit of knee bending now...

Soon, I promise, new records will come soon, I can feel it!

Did some dual runs afterwards too, LH 12 780 + RH 13043 = 25 825 RPM, was only able to get 25096 on video though :( The 12 780 is the highest LH that I can remember... Gotta start tracking my Left too now...

The Short
Had metal sessions for the last two days, achieved high 10s and hit low 11K but couldn't break record of 11.1K. Tried evolving angular grip with metal then for plastic today.

I hit 14K 4 times today and came within 5 rpm of my previous record set in November...Completed shreaded my hands though, blister on LH inside ring finger, and no blisters on RH but it is incredibly sore (off for a day or two I'm afraid).

I think I found my 14K technique again (the last time I hit it was in November). This morning none of my fingers are sore (though they're a little stiff), my thumb and thumb side of my palm is incredibly stiff and sore though (not sure if this technique is an efficient one, only focusing on half my hand?). So my hand finally healed and had a light metal session 2 nights ago: 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.8, nothing really noteworthy.

Last night I planned a second metal session (usually I find good speed performance if I plan 2 successive metal sessions), but ended up going straight to speed.

Walked away with getting as close as 13.997 but no 14K. tried some 30s and slowly getting closer to 6K--still need to work on the endurance lots though. And tried a UPC but didn't set the counter to 60s for the second run (accidentally did 2 30s). I'm thinking of switching my sessions from planning for optimal speed records to focusing on solely endurance and metal for a while.

I'm thinking of switching my sessions from planning for optimal speed records to focusing on solely endurance and metal for a while.

I find that to get good endurance I need speed. As a rough rule of thumb my endurance average will be 90% of my speed for a session. I also find endurance to a degree helps my speed but don't do 5, 1 hour runs in a row, bad for speed.
I used to structure my session like this.
(1 speed run left, 1 speed run right), repeat 5 times, 90s both hands,(1 speed run left, 1 speed run right) repeat 5 times, 90s both hands etc etc for 1 to 2 hours. Repeat 2 to 3 times a week for 6 months. Occasionally do dual runs instead of left then right. I found this to be a good mix of endurance and speed. I'm trying to get back into that basic format now.:):)

1-2 hours 2-3 times a week :) Starts off slow but you build up I've got 5-6 18k 90s in a one hour period and it is usually the 5th or 6th that is fastest and still get 13.9-14k. Don't expect miracles straight up, but it builds up slowly:cool:

Ok, had another session tonight. Plastic speed only (Javier).

With a bad start I started slowly picking up. The highest was 13 978, had a few 13.8s, a handful of 13.7s, many 13.6s, etc etc.

I started off with my Blue 250Hz, got a new Left hand record 12 829 RPM but right hand wasn't getting any higher. I decided it was going too slow, (averaging at about 13.4), switched to my Amber 250Hz with the Dropped Rotor and got 13 978. The vibrations grew stronger as I kept trying hitting 13.858, 13.775, 13.573, 13.7, 13.275, 13.405, 13.254, 13.405, 13.254, then halfway through that last run the vibrations doubled! I opened it up to see if any cracks developed because it almost felt like a quick fissure, but the fins are still fine. The Axle must have bent more as I was trying to push it faster. This rotor's done.

I switched back to the replacement Rotor Philip sent me, immediately hit 13.844.

Had only about 60 runs tonight.

Good runs Jimmie. Part of my problem when I hit a plateau like that is the anxiety that it causes. I get frustrated and my arm tenses up which slows things down. If I breathe, relax, and try to keep my arm relaxed as long as possible during a run, the speed seems to jump. I'm no expert, just sharing something that worked for me.

Thanks Brent, I think I've found a stable technique that can allow me to hit up to 14K, but I think it really causes a most of the strain on my thumb. In general I think I just need to have more sessions...

You are right on with the thumb. Aside from (but contributing to) overall grip strength, the powerball (particularly the metal), has drastically increased my thumb strength. I have a variety of methods to measure pinch-grip strength which relies on the thumb, and after years of staying the same, my thumb strength has increased. After a few dislocations, my right thumb was always in pain and weak. Since powerballing regularly, the pain is gone and I have made noticeable gains.

I think I bruised the bottom joint of my right thumb...or bruised a tendon, but I'm not sure if this is possible. There is no swelling so I fear it might be something with the cartilage. It started hurting a couple weeks back, but thought it was just a strain--its gotten worse since then. Hard to powerball now without pain. Physioblue? Any suggestions?

Thanks guys, It's been several days now. My lower thumb joint isn't as sore when I use my thumb now, so I tried picking up a powerball. I can get it up to mid 12K before I feel the pain coming back though, so I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with my thumb, but I know it has healed a bit since my last intensive session--though not ye 100% healed.

I shall have to wait this one out. It's weird though, I can play volleyball, piano, lift plates and other things, but my thumb joint pain seems to be powerball specific....

I've done the same thing Jimmie. When I first started using the powerball this past summer, I overworked my right thumb. It was already injured, and 10 minutes of 'balling would cause unbearable pain. I took a few breaks for a week at a time, used it sparingly and it has healed up stronger than ever. That was a weak point in my right hand, and I think that powerball use has strengthened it. All the lifting I do is very dependent on grip and the powerball has helped with this immensely.

Ease back into it and you will be better than ever. You probably needed a break anyways.

Brent.

OK! Tried the resting from powerballing for a full two/three weeks. A week and a bit of no sports as well.

Had a quick session and walked away with a 13.8, a 13.5, and a few other 13 scores, and a bunch of 12K scores. Didn't want to over do it first day back to powerballing so I ended it quickly (probably before I was properly warmed up).

Good to hear Jimmie. I think powerballing is deceiving in that it's hard to believe that you can overwork your muscles with a little plastic ball. It works you harder than you think.

Thank you all.

I had another quick session today again. On my first spin I hit 13.2, and then my thumb felt OK still so I tried a 30 second (gripper of course) RH--my fingers started edging in towards the rotor so I ended up having some LH contribution in the end. I got 5920 Turns, but my thumb started feeling discomfort again. I tried some more runs and I was only able to get 12.3, 12.7, 12.8, etc. Took a break, stretched out my thumb (feels awkward needing to stretch out your thumb), and then was hitting 13.5, and then 12.9, and then the discomfort came back in my thumb again...I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with my thumb

NEW SPEED RECORD!!! 14 484 RPM!!! (Video/pictures to come soon)

I had been powerballing mildly with metal for about 3 hours on and off. Much of it was done during driving to class, during my classes, and driving to pick up my little sister from High School.

I let her powerball until we got home.

When we got home I challenged her, we agreed that she would try to achieve 50 000 Revolutions on plastic before I hit 100 000 Revolutions on Metal (Her speed record is almost 10K, so the challenge really could have gone either way). As it turns out She hit 50K when I was at about 65K/70K. When I finished my 100K she had hit 74K.

Immediately, after 10 or so minutes of straight metal, I picked up her signature: 13.8K
I go to pick up my own Blue 250 Hz: 14 350
I go to ask her to video tape a video evidence for me: only 14 08X
Tried again: 14 366
I wash my hands, and try a metal run on video: only 10.6K
I wash my hands again, try my Amber 250 Hz: 14 484 RPM!!!!!

I also hit some 14.9s, some 13.Xs, but was satisfied with the result and retired because of the stiffness in my thumb. I might try some 30 seconds in a bit.

Tried another light session today. Had to stop because of discomfort from my right thumb...still not sure what is exactly going on with it, but until I feel 100% I feel I need to stop before the discomfort turns into pain/damage.

Tried something with a new twist... I challenged my sister (15) and her friend (15) to an long distance 50 000 revolutions race. I had plastic, while I accepted the combined score of their 1 plastic and 1 metal runs--not mattering which had the metal/plastic or if they switched. So in theory, I was hoping to reach 50K revolutions before they hit 25K each give or take. I lost unfortunately :(

Their total reached 50K when I was at about 42K :(

Edit:
for the few speed runs I did I got low and high 12K scores, as well as some low 13K scores. I probably did less than 10 runs though due to joint pain in thumb.

Just some tendonitis due to overuse Jimmie. It will go away. You SAID you were going to rest it last time you hurt it.... I guess you did, but then you jumped right back in at full speed. This time, take a break and when you go back at it, ramp up slowly to your top speed. Yeah, 10 runs isn't enough to build up to over 14k, and with a sore thumb, you just don't have the pop you need.

Shoveled the back concrete patio of snow just now. Been kind of lazy and let it build up to about 2 feet or so in height, and the patio is about 12ft by 40ft?

Felt really warm afterwards (even in -21 celcius), so I whipped out a powerball and gave one good spin. I didn't wash my hands so it started slipping out of my hands--this lead me to tightening my grip--and my thumb shot a quick pain. That quickly ended my session tonight :o (13.1K was the run if anyone was curious)

ESL
10-02-2008, 10:51
We use the term "hot mode" to describe a state of overexcitement and high tension during powerballing, wherein you are enabled to unleash your full energy and achieve your peak performance.

It generally takes effect after many repeated intense sessions; it might as well take hours!

Regards, Akis

Hehe, not yet, but am thinking about getting a vid up. The technique isn't well refined, but it does allow substantially more grip real-estate and allows for more brute strength. There are two other guys in my home town who've adapted a 2 handed technique for themselves (before I started trying one for myself) but neither of them have videos up--one guy's at 11.8 the other's at 12.0, I'm only at 11.4

Then I needed to move some heavy boxes into the storage shed and the phone guy came to rewire my phone lines/DSL Lines, and then I needed to get to classes...after classes I met Pako, James, Skyler, and others on Gyrotek, came home, fixed the internet connection, uploaded videos, went to work, and here I am. I usually have my sessions late at night when I come home from a days worth of work/school/everything (maybe that's why records were hard to come by). Today's short session (less than 30 minutes) was done around 1:00 in the afternoon after I had lunch. Maybe I have more energy earlier in the day...

15K within another 3 months? I hope so! Watch out! Stephen! Tim!

Calling on Paul, ESL (I finally beat the scary 13 year old!), Javier (long due, but busy with school), Brent (where are you?), Pete (should I feel bad if I feel good about beating a 16 year old?), Barry (don't be a sissy), and all you others!!!

It was only about 20 minutes, but I was able to hit a very quick hot mode somehow?

Doesn't surprise me at all...my 14974 was achieved within 5 or 10 minutes of starting my session, after only one 90s one-handed warmup or something like that.

But BLOOMIN' well done, from 14.4k to 14.8k IS a surprise, but a well-deserved one. I hope the Hot Mode continues and improves...don't rest on your laurels like I did. :o

(I can't actually view your video at work, so hopefully James or Enda will be able to confirm and approve your score. Unless you can actually send the video to Scoreadmin@powerballs.com? That might be best actually, as it'll give us an easier chance to analyse the graph. I hate to say it, but we've had quite a few counter errors lately, from people who can manage 14.5k+, and are submitting scores around 100 to 300 rpm about their records, so not unusual scores, but still errors all the same. I'm sure this isn't the case with yours though.)

Well done again! :)

Very well done Jihmmie!

Comparing the sound of your video to Tim's 14860 video the score sounds pretty legit. But saying that until it's run through powerballyzer you can't be 100%.

But huge congrats, I hope I'll be getting these scores someday. :)

I was spinning casually today while doing demos for some friends (13.8 on neon was the Top Speed). Then had a late night session, surprised at the number of 13K readings I got (very few):

14481
13.3K?
14473
14324
14219
14069
14220
14339
14616
14775
13872
14283
10379 - Metal (M) TwoHandTech (2H)
11163 - M
10693 - M2H
11135 - M
14333
14188
14362
14194
115800 - AMCC (I was interrupted and ended up having an ~3min break 5 minutes into the run as I tended to something...result not accurate, actual result would have been a bit less.

Metal needs work, two hand tech is now failing me :( and I erased the 11.4 I had on the counter :( :( I don't know if my hands are built for Metal performance:confused:

Well done Jimmy! Now use the momentum and go for a 15k!
Akis, I would have loved to listen to your advice if I had been able to continue that session, or to make a session earlier but you can't always make your schedules accordingly. I may have over done it a little though, as my hands are a little tender in the palm and pinky. I I've never used grip substances, bandages, or gloves in my sessions--only soap and water!

I think I might have over done it yesterday ENDING my session with an AMCC... No session today, didn't pick it up once--though my grip isn't feeling tender anymore so I may plan something for tomorrow depending on how I feel.

27597 New dual run record. My left was actually faster on the counter, though the analysis says one hand was just over 14K while the other was just under?

I have been ill recently and have not had much performance in powerballing, or anything else for that matter.

I did have two cold runs out of the shower today of 14.0 and 14.3 so I think I should be on the right track to getting back in the game for when I fully recover from my flu or cold or what have you. Until today the cold spell has had me in the 12K range which felt really bad--not that I already felt bad enough from being sick, but to see myself top out in high 12K range was really something that hit me hard...

I can imagine. I'm right off form at the moment, but I could still just about manage 14k the other night. That was with an almost brand new ball, and straight away it was only marginally slower than an Old Skool ball of mine with 14.6k on the counter, (and which I managed 14.4k on not too long ago.) :o

Had a series of quick cold runs today (today would have been a good day for a session if my muscles had not been sore and my nose had not been a constant stream--Flu? Cold? Misery?)

14635 - First spin out of the shower today on my second fastest ball, the record on that ball is only 14.77X....I think the hot shower and the moisture has a great deal of an affect on conditioning my grip!
14343 - my strength significantly decreased after the first run, grip still feeling awesome, but I had to leave in fear of being late otherwise I would have waited a minute and whipped out my speed ball.
13908 - First spin in the evening after washing hands. Not as great as in the morning...mental note to self: must have sessions in morning after soaking my hands in warm water or a shower...
13601 - 2nd spin in evening, energy decrease consistent at least, but dropping 300 rpm with each run probably indicates why I'm so bad at endurance....
13356 - 3rd spin in evening, 300RPM drop is really consistent today, combination of endurance training, using hot showers to condition grip, and powerballing in the morning may get me my 15K sometime after two more weeks (Started writing University final exams last Saturday. Its only first year so its not that bad, but finding I'm having tough times scheduling sessions lately)

After what Hava said, I gave me metal some more attention tonight :D

4161 - Metal 30s, RH, Rotor to Palm, Inside spin0
4416 - Metal 30s, LH, Counter to Palm, outside spin
4728 - Metal 30s, RH, Counter to Palm, Outside Spin, Couldn't be outdone by my left hand :P
4067 - Metal 30s, LH, Rotor to Palm, Outside Spin

Speed runs - not so many of them, not so great speeds, tried 2 handed tech again reaching only 10K...how did I do it that night?

13803 - Plastic - I think I've taken on a bit of Javier's technique...
14742 - the ball's top speed is 14775. But this was as close as I got tonight
14211

12851 - twohanded rotor down sideways technique...

Jihmmie I am also only 5'8 and have small hands. I had problem with metal for ages, and to be honest I still do.

I want you to try to specifically do as follows and see what score you get.

Warm up as you might normally do (but DONT touch the metal). Then get into speed mode with the plastic, once you are hitting good speed scores (14.6K+) change to the metal. Don't do any warm up on the metal (no 30/60/90s atall) just go for a 1 off speed run. I bet you break your record. Make sure the metal hasn't been used or held atall, it needs to be cold.

That 14.6k is one of the highest cold runs I've heard of. Too bad it didnt get any better later in the session though, that happens to me now more than it used to. By the way, is 12851 from last night close to your two-handed record? Good runs with that technique are few and far between with me, some days are good, but most are plain awful.

Remembering back to your "strength of sur-grip" video, I don't use any grip enhancers. Never tried them, wouldn't know where to get them, probably slightly also against the slight messiness... My technique I've developed requires more finger tip strength...I've been really paying attention to this technique in the past two weeks, I've figured out exactly how to use my finger tips to help the rotations speed up by 300-500 rpm (on highspeed plastic). Finger grip is extremely important to gain those speeds and I probably should start looking at grip stuff, but most likely won't.

The 14.6 cold and 14.3 were back to back just before I headed out the door, then the rest of the posted scores happened about 10-12 hours later when I came home from work--don't let the time lapse fool you ;).

...Just picked a bad day to have a session i recon.

I wasn't feeling well that day (and have been progressively getting more ill since)... Partly it might have been the state of mind going into the super short session (which was only those 7 or so runs you see).

It will be another week or two before I attempt at charging for the 15 again. I had a 3 hour badminton session yesterday with a friend of mine. Its been a couple of months since I've been out for badminton and having a hour session with someone that's top 10 in the province probably wasn't a good idea....the 3 hour session alone probably wouldn't have been a good idea.

I'm also gearing up now for my final final-exam of the year for this upcoming Thursday. If all goes well it will be the end of April or first two weeks of May where I can have a solid chance at nearing 15K. Any further past that and I will be crunching into too much work for near the end of May.

I hope all goes according to plan. Thanks for all the encouragement, wish me luck!
