View Full Version : Use a kitchen towel
Using a thin cloth kitchen towel you can start the Powerball with a technique similar to that of yanking a tablecloth out from under cups and saucers.
Hold the Powerball against the towel and yank, and it starts it every time.
But once you get used to spinning it up from lower speeds, a flick with your thumb will do it.

funnily enough, any boxes are great too - especially once they have a 'shiny' paper coating on them!
amazing how resourceful we get when we manage to lose the string eh?!

Getting any fibres in the mechanism can reduce the top speed seriously. You willneed to clean with alchohol or something to get the spin back...

Just roll it off your forearm, builds about 1800 rpms and easier to start from there than with a flicker with the thumb.

I rolled mine up my forearm the other day, and got a nasty pinch when my skin tried to wrap itself into the mechanism!! Don't recommend it really.
Just use your thumb or finger...only need to get it to 1.4k or so to be able to get it going. I never use the string now.

You guys seen how that guy that got the world record score starts it?
Wow.
Craig Nykamp
I thought that was how everyone else did it. At college, me and a guy have practiced it all day, thinking that either we or the ball was defective for not doing it. We both 1-handed started each; Is it really hard to do for others?
Oliver
I only use the string during 30-second-challenges, since I want a good start. Otherwise, during normal practice, I just make a barely visible flick with my thumb... Works 80% of the time!
