View Full Version : Simultaneous Powerball Exercise Supplementation
Due to the limited requirements for using a powerball (one hand... standing around) as difficult as the exercise is, and while additional things could distract from the main movement, to go for variability or whatever, have people ever added anything to increase the difficulty of what they're doing? To make it more of a full-body thing?
For example, doing powerballing while standing on a vibrating platform, or a trampoline, or one of those wobble boards, seems like it would make righting yourself pretty complex. Or doing it on one leg.
For those cirque du soleil acrobats I can't help but wonder if they couldn't do it while holding a 1-arm planche or handstand. I'd settle for doing it while holding the top of a 1-arm pushup.
You could wear a wrist-weight on the arm, while it wouldn't affect your wrist or hand muscles much, it could affect differences in elbow/shoulder stability, especially depending upon positioning.
You could wear a weighted vest/belt simply to make yourself sweat more while doing it, and maybe to have more of a solid base, and have the vibrations make your metal inserts buffet your chest.
Maybe something like holding a static weight overhead while doing the rotations.
Stabilization is so varied, it's fun to imagine this stuff.

It is an interesting point and whilst it would be more of a challenge and believe you me l am up for challenges, when you get that little sphere spinning really quick!!!!! it is a full body workout, l am sure that other people will tell you that a 90s flat out run a couple of times is a challenge for anyone:) let alone balancing on a barrel and drinking a pint of beer, mmmmmm nows there an idea.
Keep spinning
I can't remember who, but somebody posted a while back about using a powerball in various orientations in combination with a swiss ball.
This, I believe, would help improve your core muscles and stability.
I find that when I'm 'properly' powerballing, that's enough exercise for me.
Look at some of my vidz you'll see I put a good bit of effort in ;):D
I think anything would work as long as you had that music in the background you know ru da daddle daddle dar dar dar dar (circus music incase my ru da dadlleing doesn't make sense)
Think 'The Benny Hill Boogie' would work almost as well Rob :p;):D

One-Eye,
Slightly off topic but seeing this post just reminded me of a CS:S moment a few weeks ago when one of the T players decided to play the Benny Hill theme tune over his mic... have you ever seen a T rush to Benny Hill... now that was a laugh :D

Benny Hill Boogie is popular on many CSS servers, always raises a smile ;):)
Think we're looking to add it to our Gun Game server for when people triple level and get super speed. :D

A swiss ball combination sounds pretty good, hadn't even thought of that. Definately when you're breaking your personal records with a powerball, that's all you need, but if say, you just can't seem to rotate your wrist fast enough to get it going high (I'd guess some people are more skilled at that) then with other methods of increase you could still get a sense of progress.
With the way the gyroball sends force in all directions, back and forth, it reminds me a lot of vibration therapies. Stuff like there's a vibrating platform and you do pushups or stretches and stuff on it. Gyroball is like that for the wrist.
It makes me wonder how weird it could get if you were doing the ball standing on a vibrating platform, or holding yourself up with one arm doing it. Like at the top of a pushup, but you raise one arm to hold a gyroball.

You've got a good point, tyciol. One that I've thought of from time to time, and have done some experimenting with. Heres a couple things I do:
-Hold both arms out stiff parallel to the ground and move them in tight/medium circles while holding a powerball spinning at medium speeds in one or both hands.
-Powerball while running in place
-while running on treadmill/outside (only on cool days to prevent sweaty hands)
-while jumping on a trampoline, lots of different variations possible there
-jumping up and down on the ground to the rythm of the powerball
-dumbell in one hand, powerball in the other, alternating ever 30s-60s
-while doing crunches
