Well.... got my powerball today.
Been using my brothers ball (don't start...) on and off and got a 9932 last week. My ball arrived today and I've adjusted my technique a tad.

Nice start. Welcome to the forums, and good luck on your progress.
Nice Start, I started off at 9800, your ahead of me on that stage so hopefully we can start seeing good steady progress and eventually in the leaderboards. Welcome and good luck.

Nice one Tilly, I've just approved your score into the Ladies League. :)
Look forward to seeing your progressions. ;)
So here I am... doing the housework and setting up a painting session for my 2 year old daughter. The dishwasher needs emptying but you know, I'll just have a couple of spins before I do that...

Yes, I think you should increase your May Goal from 10500 to 11000. :p
P.S. What on-line games are you into? Petemayhew and I have been playing a bit of original Unreal Tournament lately...I think we should start a Clan. "Team Powerball" [TPB]. ;)
I used to play TFC many, many years ago in the Wireplay leagues but now I'm more of an MMORPG player. I was in MUD2 for a while, then EverQuest for um.... 5 years, but I'm in WoW now with a UK Guild called 'Gert Lush' :D
I never could get used to the bobble in UT and Quake... made me motion sick. :( How pathetic does that sound?

...then EverQuest for um.... 5 yearsHave to be careful with those games. I knew a couple, lived in Manchester, great flat, he had a great job...then he got addicted to EverQuest, spending 18+ hours a day on it. Lost his job, she left him! :(
That's why I steer clear. Friend kept trying to pursuade me to sign up for EVE, which was hard to resist as I used to love Elite and always wished an Elite-type MMORPG would appear. Had it been free...
And I think the motion bobble confused me a bit at first, but you get used to it.
And I think the motion bobble confused me a bit at first, but you get used to it.
motion bobble? pah all elite UT gamers know that touching the ground is only for noobs anyway, and lets not even talk about players who actually Walk around ;):p:D

Wow, when last did I hear that. I also used to play some MUD about 10 years ago, used to be on the Discworld Realm for a bit, quite a lot of fun but not sure if it is the same thing you guys are referring to.
BTW, welcome and keep spinning!

I have to say i've never been a fan of the original UT, for me 2003 was the best for straight fragging. Haven't played that in ages either though.

Welcome to Tilnoom, Awesome scores well done!
Nice idea Tim with the [TPB] ;) I've got Gilpi playing but he's a total gaming Noob! Well so am i in some respects :p
Ah now you see theres an easy solution to the addiction of MMORPGs and the issue of maintaining a relationship with your partner...
Marry a gamer :D
At one point we had four PCs - me on two at the same time (did I hear a cry of geek?), him on one and one spare! Then our daughter arrived and we had to drop down to one each cos she kinda needed to have a bedroom :D
Oh... and I've adjusted my arm position and the position of the ball in my hand...

You'll find you make quite a bit of improvement early on as you get used to the Powerball and experiment with different grips/positions/rotations.

...tried some strength runs. My god, what a mistake that was.But it's key to building up the speed scores. :)
Yes, but I would prefer to be able to USE the arm in the next 24 hours. :p
Been getting thoroughly annoyed with myself over the last few days. I'm barely making 10.1k runs in my left hand and barely 9k in my right. Grrr.... (sig needs to be updated for RH it seems!)
I spent a night going through the technique forum watching the vids, reading the suggestions and such but I don't seem to be able to get it back up. I burned a 10.4k yesterday and was super chuffed but it was a bit of a one off I fear.
Any suggestions? I'm doing a few more 30s runs daily to build the strength but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. Also, did people make a concience decision to adjust their technique or did it just kinda happen? After reading the forums, I'm trying to use my upper arm and shoulder more... but its not working too well, hehe.

Don't worry, everyone had up-days and down-days. It could just be that at the time, your muscles were in "fast-twitch" mode when you got your record...a good sign of high-speed scores getting lower is endurance scores going up. Are you keeping track of your 30s and 90s scores?
A year or two ago my record was 13579, but I really hit a wall, and struggled to get within 500 of that. It seemed 13k was my absolute limit. As a desparate measure I changed my technique...I went from rotating my right hand clockwise, (palm facing away from me), to rotating my right hand anti-clockwise. (My left has always mirrored my right, so that changed too.) At first my scores were appalling, and 10k was a massive effort. But in time the muscles started to learn the new technique, and after several months I was back on track. And I've now added over 1000 to my old record.
Jarkko did the same. It's horrible to see your scores drop so much, but in my case I felt it was the only way forward. I just couldn't stop my right hand making what felt like large circular movements, and that was limiting my speed. This new technique enabled me to drill a "pulsing" (back-and-forth) motion into my muscles, which is necessary for the really high scores.
Very early days for you though...just stick with it.
Good luck. :)
Personally, I made conscious decision to try different rotation directions and grip.
But any other changes to my technique happens subconsciously and just kind of evolved, and still is evolving, as I progress.
We all have our off periods, don't worry about it too much.
Keep spinning and the good scores will come.
And don't for get to rest from time to time to let your muscles fully recover.
;):D
Might I suggest to stop trying so hard and just let it flow. Worrying about technique at this stage is just going to frustrate you.
My advice would be to heed Adrena!in's advice - focsu on 30s and 90s. This not only strengthens your muscles but also helps to really groove the technique in. Do that for 5 days or so and then take a break for 2 or 3 days - put the balls down and forget about them - then try a record - you might be surprised with the results.
Thanks for the advice guys. I've been doing a few 30s today and yesterday and my scores at present are quite appauling. I'll add them to my sig in a minute.
I did however break 10k with my RH this afternoon whilst demonstrating it to a friend :) Did a 9.9 and it just felt... right. Can't explain why or how. Did another run and bam, 10075 :)
30s are my limit at the moment - I really think my arm WILL fall off if I do 90s :D At the risk of sounding noobie, how do I change the settings it to 90s?
*Edit - oh, I forgot to say... hubby dropped my ball  I was not impressed.

At the risk of sounding noobie, how do I change the settings it to 90s?When you first go into the Strength mode, does it say "30" or "0" on your counter? If it says 30, press ON/CLR again and it'll say 60. Again and it'll say 90. (If the rotor is spinning, you'll need to press ON/CLR fairly quickly each time, because if the counter starts counting down, pressing ON/CLR will just reset the counter back to the start number.)
Don't worry about the scores, or your arm falling apart quickly...in time you'll get to the point where you can pace yourself nicely. That's what it's all about really...keeping a nice constant speed going, rather than starting far too fast and ending really slow. :)
Today marked the arrival of the 90s runs. What WAS I thinking. Did a respectable 10k followed by a 11257. Typical of me though, my phone had a funny 5 seconds and as I finally managed to press 'take a picture'... the score disappeared from the screen. Bleh. I guess I'll just have to better it to get it onto the scoreboard
Oh and my first injury :( Transfering the ball from one hand to the other I caught the inside of my hand. Diddly lil shiny bit of skin has come up but its right on the edge of where the powerball sits in my hand. As my daughter would say... "silly mummy...."

Its a weird feeling when it gets you isnt it? :p
Yup, I got a pic :)
I've sent it to my inbox twice already and its still not arrived. I'll have to try again tomorrow for scoreboard submission!
Also, I sat down ready for a session on WoW and thought 'hmm, hand is a bit tender there'. Looked down and, hmmm, maybe that blister the size of my fingernail might be causing it. Same hand as the shiny bit, but about an inch away.
Think its time for a day or two off balling :)

Didn't do any balling over the weekend due to injury. Tried a couple of spins today but the blister is still too tender to put a consistant few runs in. Off the bat I got a 10.6k though, so thats fine.
Forgot to say, did a new str 90 record last... Friday? No.... probably Saturday... 11898. No piccie though so can't update the scoreboard (sorry Adren... did I hear you say thank god for that? :P ).
Think I'll give it one more day then start up again. Gonna get some plasters tomorrow when I do my shop :P

Difficult as it may be, put the balls down for a while. You'll be much better of for it...:)
I've been a good girl - doing minimal balling last two days, especially on the right hand.... and no speed attempts :)
Only done a handful of str 30s runs today and only one on right hand. My right isn't hurting afterwards now, but I'm still going to take it steady on the right over the next couple of days just to be doubly sure.
Having said that... two new str 30s run records for me today :)
LH - 4423
RH - 4195
May Str 30s Target Achieved :)
I'm hoping to be going for a record attempt over the weekend. Just gonna stick to 30s and maybe a 90s or two on Friday.

Gonna burn a few 90s runs tonight and then do a record attempt Saturday morning. I always seem to ball better in the mornings, hehe! I assume its because I've been effectively rested for several hours. 11k would be wonderful, but I'm more hopeful of 10.9k.
Its apparant now that my grip is going to be the thing holding me back - this morning I could feel the ball slowly turning in my hand as I went over 10.7k. Its probably only millimetres, but its enough to make me concience of it moving. Perhaps I should take the wrist strap off my Wii and attach it to the ball :D

On your way to your 11 k in speed!!! I wonder what your 90s will give you tonight? If not new rec , aim for consistancy. I've been scoring 15 190-ish for along time after my rec of 15218. I think around 5-6 weeks. Don't remember the exact date. And suddenly- Wiiiiiiii!- jump to 15366 yesterday!
And yes... attach the strap  Sometimes the ball comes ALIVE...:p !
Hmm, but the fact that the ball is moving is maybe a bit lack of grip-strength but also at the same time... the ball maybe turns a bit but lets you know where it needs to be in your hand for being able to reach over 10.7? At least sometimes I let the ball decide the grip. Ahh, hard to explain but I hope you understand!

18-05-2007, 13:18
Marie could be right there. You'll be making a certain motion with your hand, and that will determine the ideal position of the Powerball within your hand. It might be that it moves slightly to be in this ideal position.
However, a tiny bit of slippage will make a huge difference to your scores. I notice it mainly with the Metal. It's larger, and much more slippery than a Plastic. If it's really clean and my hands are completely clean and dry, I still can't score within about 300 or 400 revs than if I put grip-aid on my fingers, and then spin it. You really do want that Powerball locked in position.
Best thing really would be to make sure the Powerball is completely clean on the outside, and that the grip is secure, then wash your hands with soap and hot water. Grip will be great after that, and you'll see 11xxx flashing on the counter! ;)
Well done Tils and good luck for your 90s runs later.
11k will be winking at you very soon.
;):D
Very good point. After heeding peoples advice previously my technique has changed on its own and my hand motion is much less obvious now. Ya know.... you start off doing it like you have a hula hoop attached to your wrist  but now its just itty bitty circles.
It does tend to 'slip' the same way. I shall keep an eye on it and see what happens. I wonder if its the position of my little finger - since my calluses have started forming, I've changed where my little finger sits (mainly because my little finger was jutting out at a very odd angle!). I'll experiment again with that finger position next week after my record bash.
I must admit I am gripping it a hell of a lot harder than I was when I started. To quote a poll I saw, its now being squished into a black hole.
Did my 90s mini session earlier and really went for it. I tend to judge my 90s/30s by sound pitch and I started off a tad higher than normal. Decided what the heck, go for the burn. My in laws have my daughter on Sunday so if my arms are fried I don't have to pick her up too much! Havin said that... shes a hell of a lot easier to carry now so powerballing has given me that at least!! Shes 26 months and 35lb... quite the dead weight when you try and carry her asleep!
Anyhoo, back on topic... and tonights 90s runs. My transfer technique from hand to hand has drastically improved recently and a run tonight I got it nearly right on each change. A combination of going for the burn and better transfers gave me a new record. One that obliterated my old one into little tiny pieces.
90s BH run new record - 12886. Hammering my old one by just shy of 1k!
Going to leave the ball alone tonight now and go for a record in the morning.

Can't put my finger on it but my arm just didn't feel right for a frenzy this morning. Managed a couple of 10.7ks but the ball is clunking - I *think* this is down to my technique rather than a fault with the ball. I'll take it apart tomorrow when my daughter isn't here just to double check though. I have a sneaky suspicion I just wasn't in the right mindset this morning and was trying too hard (hence the clunk).
We've got friends coming around tonight so I'll give it a spin then and see what happens.
RH was more sucessful though - 10142, new record :) I sustained it at that rev for a little while, but couldn't push it over. Typically.. it seems my weakness is grip in LH, strength in RH

I really should only go for scores when I demonstrate it to others. Always seem to have a happy ending then.
Also did a new record LH 30s - 4890. Did a 90s BH 12.8k as well so that was good too! It could have been a 13k I reckon but I clipped the ball with my hand on transfer. I think I just had my first 'hot mode' moment :) So, so hyped up. Not gonna sleep well tonight!

Heh, don't think Powerballing can help me much there, my son is 7 and about the size of an 8/9 year old.
I had to carry him upstairs (asleep) for the first time in aaages on Saturday night taking all his weight on one arm so I could hold the bannister for stability.
Was doubly hard as we were at my girlfriend's house and it was two flights of stairs up to the attic bedroom.
Just hoping my new mobile with snazzy camera is up to taking decent video footage. Theres no room in the PC room to hook up a webcam and powerball!!
Carrying a 7 year old? Rather you than me! Onica (my daughter) is gonna be a tall one too. Unfortunately mummy is 6ft tall and shes going to follow suit I think.
Is there an official point for the ladies to submit video evidence btw? Not that I mind submitting... just didn't want to subject you to my jiggling before it was absolutely necessary :)

Endurance only for this week now woman! :o

Heh, well done on new record.
Is difficult not to do speed runs 'just to see...'
;):D
I have been good! Only doing endurance runs here and there. I can't dedicate a vast chunk of time in one go due to other priorities so I grab a few 30s/90s runs where I can. I've been consistant over the last couple of days, with 30s around the 4400 mark for LH and 90s around 13k. I'm still getting that pain in my right hand on and off. It fades faster than before so I guess the muscles are improving slowly. I *think* it may be because I hold the ball with the counter facing outward in my RH on 90s runs. I can't see a way to transfer it smoothly otherwise, hehe!
I do have a vid of my high 90s run, but its a 3gp file so I'm gonna try and convert it and upload asap. My technique looks horrible with my arm moving far too much for my liking - it doesn't feel like I move it that much but I obviously am!
Oooh, also! I managed to open my ball :D One hammer, fluffy towel and a tappity tap WHACK and voila, it opened :) Sounds a lot healthier than it did before so it must have been full of crap :)

As for the above quote by Adrena1in, I have to agree with One-Eye, CS:S is the way to go
PS - Adrena1in, haven't noticed you on the server that I PM'ed you about a while ago?? You not up for it yet??
Nothing new to report - been getting close on my 90s run (got a 134xx today) but no new records. Had a rest day yesterday but my right hand is still hurting immediately after a run. Gonna have to readjust my grip on my right hand I think. It even hurt doing the bloody hoovering yesterday
Gonna give a record run a shot on the weekend and then hopefully - in a weird kinda way - I'll be out of action for a while. I'm due for surgery on my back next Thursday so I can finally be fixed (*cheer!*). My nerve root block has been wearing off over this week so in a fair bit of pain on and off :( I expect if I mention powerballing to my doctor/surgeon they are just gonna go "huh?" at me, so I best leave the spherical wonder alone once I'm all sliced and diced. Kinda hoping to be back in action (no pun intended) and record breaking though in 6 weeks or so, but I guess it all depends on recovery time.
For those of you familiar with MRI scans, heres me :D
See the curly black bit at the bottom? That shouldn't be there The disc above it isn't looking too great either - they should be nice and white like the ones above it. :) Thats me sideways.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/Tilnoom/Image066.jpg
And on this one, the black/grey blob centre of your screen shouldn't be sticking out like that. Should be nice and round instead of looking like a mushroom. You are looking at the curly wurly disc sliced horizontally.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/Tilnoom/Image063.jpg
I'll be having a discectomy of the L5/S1 disc (remove excess disc, laser disc shut, sew me up!), which will hopefully then stop the sciatica and I really, really, really hope I'll get the feeling back into the back of my right leg and foot, but I'm not holding my breath for that. Not bad for a 26 year old, heh :)
But hey, they could cancel on me again. Already been cancelled once already!

Blimey Tils, how long have you been suffering with that back pain? Do you know what caused it? You perhaps wouldn't think that using a Powerball would affect your back, but I'm sure it does, so you lay off the little sphere for a while and hope the recovery goes well.
Tim.
Hope everything goes well with your surgery and you get back spinning soon.
;):)
I had back pain all through my teens (I hit 6ft before I was 14) but it was always put down to growing pains - I shake my virtual fist at you crappy doctors! In hindsight, I believe it was the disc repeatedly slipping.
The straw that broke the camel's back though (hehe, geddit? :) ) was having my daughter. She weighed in at 11lb 10 1/2 ozs (5.280kg) and was 13 days early. I reckon she'd have hit 14lb if I'd gone to term. I think my back just said a hearty "WTF?!" and decided it had had enough. Then the constant bending up and down looking after her just did it in over time.
This time though, I've been iffy since July last year. My right leg kept going tingly while on holiday and it just kinda progressed from there. Doctors were super crap and I ended up having an MRI privately to find out what was wrong. I've been waiting for surgery since then. The world keeps spinning though, so I gotta keep going. Unfortunately in my line of work (mummy!) I don't get a call in sick option :)
Powerballing is one of those calculated risks I take (like going ten pin bowling with my niece and nephew today!). I'm quite restricted in what I can and cannot do and for the moment... I can powerball so to take a nemo quote and twist it...
Just keep spinning... just keep spinning... just keep spinning... :D

So very annoyed wit myself. Did a 90 run last night that went horribly wrong. The ball transfered into my right hand wrong, with my two smaller fingers completely around the side of the ball. I continued because the pitch sounded good (stupid woman!) and in the end it was a 12.8k but my hand really hurt after. Its still hurting now and I'm kicking myself because I wanted a record run Wednesday morning before I'm admitted. Its the same place as before but nothing seems to be relieving it (popped some of my pills for my back so that should ease it a bit anyway).
The pursuit of records is paved with danger for my right hand. I can see it heh.
Hoping its at least pain free by Wednesday, but I really doubt it :(
Oh and while I remember. I'm not sure if I have a problem with my counter or not. After a record run, I stop the ball and clear the score. The screen says 0 with the lightening symbol so I start her up again, do a run and the previous high score comes up a flashing. I know its not me doing the exact same score because usually when I do this my hubby has had a go first, so its his score that pops up on my run... and he's hitting around 12k, hehe. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Never mind Tils, but I know what it's like when you're midway through a 90s run and things don't seem quite right, but you want to carry on rather than start again. If something goes wrong in the first 30s for me I stop and start again.
As for your issue with the counter, I think this is a known "feature". I certainly know that spinning the Powerball up, stopping it, then spinning it again, it will always automatically first show the previous score. So let's say you spin 10,000, then let it stop and it shows 11182. Flick-start it again with your finger and it'll show 10,000 straight away. However, I wasn't aware this happened even after pressing ON/CLR to clear the score...I thought it then reset completely.
I tend to always just press ON/CLR while I'm spinning.
If you want to make sure the score is cleared, press FCN four times, then press ON/CLR to remove the score, which is will do properly.
Tim.

I'm back, I'm very sore, but I'm on the mend :)
Had my op Thursday morning but didn't react too well to the anestetic so post op I was vomiting a fair bit. My blood pressure was low-ish too so I have a feeling that was contributing somewhat as well. Everything went well, surgeon said he removed a large chunk of the disc, so just gotta pray I don't get a relapse now.
Came home this afternoon and I'm tres sleepy. Just logging onto the PC now to update my various groups of friends with how I am.
Be back powerballing soon :)

Thanks for your words :)
Its been tough not picking up the ball. Also tough knowing I'm gonna have to restart from scratch too - I can see myself getting frustrated once I pick it back up!
Forgot to say as well, before I went in for the op I managed to get an 11k on video. I've not transfered it to the PC yet but it was 11080ish I think.
Cheers,

Finally downloaded that SUPER converter thingy but its putting the sound out of sync with the video.

Any thoughts on what to do about the sound tho? Its perfectly alright in 3gp mode.... so can I just submit future stuff as 3gp or do I have to convert it?

Finally downloaded that SUPER converter thingy but its putting the sound out of sync with the video. That happens to me sometimes when I convert files to WMVs. I usually use it to convert to MOVs, as the main reason I use it is to be able to extract an image from the video, and I can do that with MOVs using QuickTime. I don't know (yet) how to get round the speeded up sound thing. Could try fiddling with the settings.
However, if your Photobucket thing accepts 3gp then that's fine I suppose, just go with that.
P.S. After watching the video, I've never had SUPER put the sound out of sync quite like that. If the sound goes wrong for me it speeds it up to 2x normal, or cuts it out completely, or makes it go all crackledy.

The scar on my back is pathetically small and my daughter is suitably unimpressed that mummy still cannot pick her up and carry her. I do have to show her the scar though as proof that mummy does indeed still have a baddy back
Been picking up the ball on and off. 30s around 4.3k LH and 3.9k RH and speed runs around 10.3-10.5k today. Theres something very wrong with my RH grip but I really can't see how I'm holding the ball differently than my LH. Maybe I'll have to borrow my brothers and do a mini dual run to see the difference. Once the ball is around 8-9k its like a gradual build up of pain in the same spot as before. Nothing major, but irritating if it sticks around.
I'm trying not to push myself too hard as unfortunately I'm not convinced the surgery has worked, :( but only time will tell. I'm now two weeks post op, so intend to up the ball usage slowly now and make an assault on the scoreboards next month.
I want a new 90s run record at least by the end of July :)
Tils.
I'm baaaaaack!
Finally saw my consultant last week and I am now as fixed as I'm gonna get without improving my general fitness and wellbeing. I still have no feeling in the majority of my right leg and every other day it does get quite painful, but its a massive improvement on my pre-op agony.
I've been trying to get myself back up to speed but my endurance runs seem to have taken a bit of a kicking as I've barely picked up the ball over the last month. LH 30s around the 4.4k mark and RHs around 3.5k my 90s were just hideous so I won't even mention that one. :o
I did however cold run two new speed records this morning :D After cleaning the kitchen my hands were dry as a bone so my grip was much better than usual. I just nailed the technique (ya know, when you have it spot on and you've no idea why!) and so we have 10537 RH and 11204 LH :)
Now to get that new 90s I wanted months ago, hehe :D

Didn't have time for a proper 90s attempt as the pasta was cooked, hehe!
Comedy moment in the middle of powerballing. My 11354 vid has my daughter requesting a biscuit, me opening tub and giving said biscuit, whilst ball is still spinning. I then complete my run. To top it off, I swore at the end so it probably can't get linked on the scoreboard. Classy bird, eh? :D Bit annoyed that the counter isn't particularly visable at the beginning tho :( Stupid crappy camera phone.

I've found something recently that helps. You know when you ride a bike and your feet are strapped in you can push and pull for each revolution of the peddles. Think of doing that as you spin the ball. Think push pull really fast

Well done Tils, good luck for this month. I think you'll need more though...I'm sure Teresa will be gunning for more, so you'll need 12.3k at least I reckon. You can do it though. You say your records are sometimes just cold-runs. Do a cold-run, then an Ultimate Powerball Challenge to warm-up, and I'll bet you a Neon Powerball you can then do over 12k within the session! ;)
EDIT: By the way, your video link says it's Private! :(
Hmm bugger. Just had a squizz at the settings and have put a password on it - try using 'powerball'. Failing that, want me to email you the file? Also, when you listen to the sound... can you hear a clunk/tick? I haven't the faintest idea what it is and it doesn't seem to be impeeding my scores. Just wondering if its being a grumpy ball from us moving house and falling out of its box or whether I need to slap someone for damaging it.
Yup, most of my recs are cold runs. First run this morning was 11.3, 11.4, then 11.6 (record), then a few 11.3s again. Its nice to be consistantly hitting 11.3+ now though.
I would dearly love to break 12k by the end of the year and 14k on 90s runs, so I guess I'll just have to aim for that for now :)

Okies, just looked at the UPC, heh! I think my arm is gonna be complaining somewhat later!! My initial target is gonna be 35k.

In all honesty, if you're doing those scores straight away, I would expect you to be hitting over 12k easily right NOW after a proper warmup. I can add roughly 800 to 1200 rpm to my cold run scores when I'm warmed.
Next time, do a few cold runs, then a UPC, (really trying to keep your hand as still as you can), then wait 2 or 3 minutes and then go for some more speed runs. I predict 12.2k at least.
And thanks, that password worked. Does sound like the Powerball's taken a knock and has a slight dent in one or both of the tracks. If it feels okay then it's probably just minor...I've had that happen to me before as well.
Thanks mate. Just did my first UPC, but the post speed scores were on par with normal. As suspected, my arm is complaining, hehe!

I would have to say the same. Unfortunately, I've had to remove "PC Gaming" from my practiced sports list as of late.
Nice progress Tilnoom! Its good to see some ladies on here with such enthusiasm. :)
My UPC run(s) earlier took their toll and I've got a blister in the usual place. Gonna have to leave the ball alone for a few days now. I seem to have two very tight ligaments between my thumb and first finger. The edge of the counter just happens to sit bang on one of these and voila, blister-tastic.
Did get a 10937 wth RH tho (+18) ;)
Alas my gaming is restricted to WoW only nowadays. PC isn't capable of running anything more graphical and to upgrade mine, means we gotta upgrade hubby's PC as well.
With regards to warming up, do you guys do UPC, wait a few mins then Speed run it? Then rinse and repeat a couple of times or just cycle through it once? I'd imagine after 3 runs through your arm has detatched itself and crawled off to bed by itself.

Oops, sorry about that! :o
After a UPC warmup I go into my speed run session, with perhaps a 30s one-hand run here and there, and sometimes a 90s run. Mostly speed though, alternating between Plastic and Metal. I don't do any more UPCs. :)
Pffft not your fault. I've been lax with the endurance runs recently, so my hands were starting to return to their former womanly state. Well on their way to looking rough as hell again :D
Thanks for the info too - really hoping to do 12k this year now. Will probably be easier, or rther more comfortable, when I have more than a 2 metre square to stand in as well (still surrounded by boxes from moving house!).

UPC RH: 4176+6778+9628+9929=30511 - New record (+56)
LH 11683 - New record (+36)

Just done my session for today - I was supposed to do it Thursday but I've had a headcold / bug thing going around so haven't really been up to it.
Started out with a 33.1k LH UPC. Should have pushed harder on the 30s run (only 3.8). Speed runs started with their usual 11.3k range, couple of 11.4k, one 11.5k and finally a couple of 11.6ks. Highest score 11670 which was 13rpm short of record. Unfortunately, they then started dropping off again and back down to 11.3k so I stopped to rest the hand.
I've noticed that the angle of my arm is having an effect on the score. If I lower the ball and do it like most people, I hit 11.3. If I raise it to chest level with a bent elbow... it ups. No idea why, but I suppose I am using different muscles at the moment.
Took my ball apart this morning too and gave it a good clean. There was a ton of crap in there and it sounds a lot smoother now. Gonna rest the left arm for a few days now and try to do a full session again Tuesday.
Tils.
Today I washed the rubber band for the first time. It also saw my cold scores hit 11.6k consistantly :) I was also in good form, probably boosted mentally by the nice grippy grip :)
I did my LH UPC first off and got *drum roll purlease!*
4284
8346
11214
11486
-----
35330 - New record! (+1221) 2007 Target reached for UPC LH! :D :D
I didn't push particularly hard on the 30s run and was bloody surprised to see 4284 looking at me. Overall, I'm happy with the balance through a UPC on my left now.
Speed runs then consistantly 11.5k-11.6k. Quickly developed two blisters on the little finger. I was desperate to get an 11.7k but it didn't want to come. So moving on....
UPC RH
4155 (just shy of 30s RH record)
7254
10047
9880
-----
31286 - New record! (+455) 1214 to go to target :)
I didn't have time to do proper runs on the RH so switched back to LH as I felt 11.7k was possible. Again, even with two plasters on the finger, consistant 11.4-11.6k runs, but no 11.7k+
I honestly don't know what I am lacking in speed... I have adjusted technique the best I can, my grip is now at its best with a nice clean grippy band and I cleaned my ball thoroughly on the weekend just gone. Nothing seems particularly amiss, so I am hoping through practice that my technique will evolve on its own accord and the speed adjust accordingly.
Onwards we go!

I think it took about 3 weeks for me to get my monthly winners prize.
Got the Metal for Chimbo ^^
Also informed my brother that his old neon is proper broken (all 4 fins cracked!) and it needs replacing. Repair form to be completed asap by him!
So, had a blast with my Pro and his (broken) neon for my first dual score of.... 10384+10038=20422 which puts me way, way down there in 95th on the Dual Scoreboard :D
And so the metal. Ooooh how did I ever ball before! Its so loverly... and shiny... and spinny and quiet and lovely and.. well, you get the point. Xmas Day I got a 8.9k out of it. Showing it off today I got a 9171, which slots me nicely into 8th on the Ladies Metal Scoreboard.
My little Amber is still being run in at the moment so no new Pro scores for the moment. Can't wait to see what my scores do once shes all broken in nicely and my left hand is back on form :) :)

I'd normally expect to have 11.1-3k ish on a few cold runs but I'm not sure what the problem is. Could be the ball still not worn in properly. Could be I'm on a cold spell. Maybe even my technique has adjusted to the metal. Either way, its having a detrimental effect on my focus with the Pro and also making the metal a more appealling ball to spin at the moment.
Onwards we go!
Tils.
Nice metal score Tils:) I also had some problems with my regular balls when i first spun my metal though after a while practising i managed to increase my scores a bit and all these thanks to the "Shiny one":D ;)
Its good to know someone else experiences something similar - thanks ESL :)
My freebie arrived today (thanks Enda + team!) so hubby is happy he can have his own ball and keep his mits off mine now! Won't take him very long to run it in for me for dual runs either :D
I think I may continue with UPC's and general steady spins with my Pro this month and concentrate on Metal for scores. In an ideal world I'd love to break 9500 this month but I think 9350 would be more realistic :)
Tils.
Nothing like your husband spinning his new ball up to make yuo do your plastic properly. Also did a dual run cold. New record! 10724 + 10475 = 21199 (+777)
UPC LH 31843
UPC RH 31299 - New Record (+13!)
Followed by a ton of speed runs and a return to 11k+ form :) :) :)

Session End.
Thoroughly pleased with myself. It appears my lack of 11k form was down to two things. The first being the ball position in my hand. It had rotated somewhat and was more comfortable in the hand, but not optimal for my technique. Secondly, I had recently adopted the 'rev it up with RH then pas to LH for speed' strategy. This had inadvertantly fried my entire technique, so a speed run entirely on one hand is the way to do it for me it seems.
Tils.
Very nice session Tilnoom:) Back to 11k again;) Congrats for your new records;) I think UPCs really work when you can't impove at speed :D (They once helped me too;) )
I also find it easier to get higher scores with just one hand, i dunno why but it seems that i get a better grip and i'm more focused ;)
Tils
Great session there and big congratulations on the 11+K score, definitely more to come;) can't wait!!!
Keep spinning
I haven't done any 90s runs for quite some time so knocked a couple out earlier as a warm up and came within 200 rpm of record, so was quite happy with that.
In an ideal world I'd love to break 9500 this month but I think 9350 would be more realistic
Mid session a friend pops out into the kitchen (where I do my runs) and I didn't start the camera. I really wish I had because I nailed a LH 9513 (+273) on my metal :D, promptly followed by a 9042 (+307) with RH. I'll just have to catch it on camera next time :(
Onwards!
Tils.
VERY nice Tils:) Heading for 10k already.;) :D
Had a mini endurance session today, didn't do any speed runs apart from a couple of low 9ks on Metal.
New BH 90s - 13866 (+32). Bit annoyed if I'm honest cos I stopped a few seconds early. Could I have gotten 14k? Quite possibly.
Did some 30s then with LH maxing around 4.6k but RH put a storming 4861 in (+256). My right hand is again favouring endurance over speed lately, so I'm just gonna go with the flow.
Tils.
Good session there Tils:D Though try and mix up endurance and speed together;) :)
First session in a week! I've just started a new exercise routine involving Aquaerobics and a normal Aerobics workout.Having just got back from Aqua, I decided to do a session and I'm mighty glad I did too!
Started with UPC:
UPC LH 4322 + 7075 + 10005 + 11001 = 32403
UPC RH 3916 + 7326 + 9945 + 10861 = 32048 New Record! (+749) Breaking 32.5k RH is a reality in the near future I feel.
And onto the speed runs, alternating LH/RH again:
LH ......... RH
11491 ... 11154 New Record! (+66)
11109 ... 11143
11329 ... 11006
10861 ... 10538
11378 ... 10941
11427 ... 10894
10994 ... 10819
11109 ... 10829
and onto Metal:
LH ......... RH
9422 ..... 9182 New Record! (+140)
9684 ..... 8925 New Record! (+171)
9679 ..... 8925
9437 ..... 8696
9420 ..... 8856
...and then the batteries on my phone died :) All in all, very pleased. Speed on 250 LH is still lacking and I'm not sure why. One thing for sure though is that the metal feels a lot more suited to my hands. I suppose thats what I get for enormous not-very-ladylike grabbers, hehe!
Onwards!

Wow Tilly, I didn't expect you to go potty mouthing on Camera. Don't let your little one catch you "Getting a new Record" or she might start to follow in your "excitement":D
:o:o
I'm pretty good at keeping my mouth under wraps, especially when shes around :) She does come out with a hilarous "oh my gaaaawd!" though and I'm not sure where thats come from, hehe!

Hehe:D Nice score Tils:) Even closer to 10k;)
Quick note because my pasta is cooking.
90s new record 14074 (+208) Top 5 yeah baby! (and I didn't swear this time :p )
Tils.
Excellent Tils!:D Now for 14.5k ;)
Nothing like a bit of healthy competition to get the confidence going.
Enda announces Women's 30s coming soon. I get within 11rpm of my LH 30s record with 4879 (the closest I've been in months) and get a new RH of 4939 (+78).
Thoroughly pleased with myself and I really think 5k is obtainable in the very near future. Span out an 11.5k LH immediately after, so going to try a session tonight and see what I come up with. Consistant 11.5ks would be very, very nice :)

Nice to see a new ladies section and I'm sure so many more women will be interested with powerball now there's its own little section. ;)
Nice 30s Tils. :)
I think you can do 5k next session...just focus a little.
I think you can do 5k next session...just focus a little.
30s RH 5016 (+77) to be exact :)
30s LH 4946 (+56) new record also. 8 months to break that one!!!
Session went well, with the vast majority of speed runs for LH 11.4k+ so slowly getting back to peak performance. Best run was mid session and was my only 11.5k - 11562.
A few spins on the metal at the end brought me to 9.4k and a dual pro run brought me 21179 - 20 short of record. By then it was time to put my daughter to bed and that was the end of that.
My hands are a bit sore now I must admit, so going to lay off the balls for a couple of days.
Tils.
Nice going Tils, you'll be leading the 30s leader board in no time (when its up) ;)
Good luck with a new speed record :)
Hawky
Good scores Tils!:D Bet a new record will come soon;)Keep it up!:D
Started a run last night but had visitors arrive so had to stop - just as well cos after my warm up my speed scores were absolutely shot!
Cleaned the ball out and it seemed better, so will see what the next session brings - I had a horrible feeling I'd bust a rotor again but thankfully, its not the case.
Warm up was 30s run on each hand this time instead of my usual 90s.
5122 LH - New Record! (+176)
4973 RH
Video'd the run too and managed to take a decent piccie before the screen poofed. Not long to go until Race for Life training begins :)

Very nice!! I'm sure all this 30s training will help with speed scores in the long run. Good luck training for Race for Life! :)
EEP! Long time no update. Been working endurance for the Race and not going for speed recently. Heres my training record to date:
Mon 18 Feb - 2km - 12 minutes - 93,400 revs (7783 rpm average)
Mon 25 Feb - 2km - 18 minutes - 123,400 revs (6855 rpm average) (friends pace)
Thu 28 Feb - 2km - 14 minutes - 97,700 revs (6978 rpm average)
Mon 3 Mar - 2km - 18 minutes - 130,800 revs (7266 rpm average) (friends pace)
Thu 6 Mar - 3km - 20 minutes - 165,000 revs (8250 rpm average)
My target is 5k in 30 mins and 250,000 revs (8333 rpm average).

Maybe after one of these running session you could try speed, but you may be a little tired! ;)
Your target seems realistic but is not by all means easy...I'm sure you will make it training regulaly like that.
Keep it up. :)
Nice sessions there Tils;):D
Surely after that much endurance your speed should be improved! As, Pete said, try a speed run and you might be surprised with the score:D;)
So, did a proper session tonight as daughter was engrossed on the computer.
33.6k UPC LH followed by a RH....

32715 RH UPC Record! (+667)
So far so good. Then my speed scores absolutely went to pot. 11.1k max LH and broke 11k once with RH. I even reversed my LH and apart from feeling very bizarre, that didn't prompt any improvement.
Metal scores were scarily consistant, LH producing 9254, 9252, 9299, 9295  although right couldn't get over 9k :(
Ended on a couple of dual runs (bear in mind LH wouldn't go over 11.1k prior...) and the second run gives me:
11323 + 11092 = 22415. New Dual Record! (+1216):eek: which frighteningly puts me as Ladies number 2 in the dual league (assuming it will eventually get split).
So started on a high, crappy middle and ended on a high. Go me!

Keep improving Tils and you're not far from MJ. ;):)
Woman champion ftw!!
Hehe, MJ's dual is 23245 so a little way to go yet. Also find it difficult to understand why I'm scoring better doing a dual than single. There must be some karma / balance / feng shui thing going on in my kitchen...
When the Ladies 30s finally gets put in I think I'll be top :D
I am pleased at being quite balanced though. Now if only my hands would start improving on speed...

Yesterday was Bank Holiday and after consuming all my Easter Eggs on Sunday :o... Monday was not a good day to run. I could go on with the list of excuses but I'll stop there!!
So went out tonight instead :)
Ran 3km, in 21 minutes, doing 171,000 revs (8,143 rpm average).
Perfect ball speed. Just need to get my damn running pace up now!! My hands are shot though. Blister on left little finger and right palm and right palm is particularly tender so I best lay off the balls for a few days.
Oh... and CAN I HAVE MY 30s LADIES LEAGUE NOW PLEASE!!! Thanks :)

Huge congrats Tils. You really deserved your record, with all this extra powerball training/runing you were boun for an improvement.
Your baby is also very cute...makes me want a little neice/nephew from one of my older bros!! :D
Keep balling and you'll get 12k. It's really is as easy as a change in technique, you'll probably see your technique change a lot as you head towards 12k and 13k. And when your gettin 14.5k like me you'll realise how easy it really is to get 12k ANd YES I'm sure you'll be getting these scores someday, I have hope. :D;)
that video is great with the play camera made me laugh.

Nice score, that video is hilarious you should get an extra 187 revs for distraction I reckon:p
I am pretty much recovered from surgery and intend on restarting Race for Life training next week. Then I'll find out just how badly my fitness has been affected!!
Picked up the ball for the first time yesterday and cold span an 11740 with grubby hands, so plesantly surprised. Potentially looking at doing my first proper session again over the weekend. I want my 10th world spot back from the newcomer Rachel. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition to spur me on!
My new neon is VERY rattly compared to my oh-so-nice-and-worn-in pro. Do neons vibrate more generally? Rotor looks fine so I'm wondering if it just needs wearing in a bit.
Tils.
Great cold run there Tils!:D;)Bet if u had a session that day u'd be getting 12k;):)Keep it spinning!
Yes, i also find neons having some very smalls vibrations that can be easily ignored. It must be the neon rotors
Still running walking crawling spinning, this weekend Tills?
Absolutely! I'm aiming to do a walk/jog/walk technique and I am hoping the rain stays away for the race. I can't be do with a) jogging in the rain and b) trying to hold onto a wet slippery ball!

So are we going to be reading a 12k score in your thread very soon you think?
Hmmmm not sure. :) I can but hope, but I did a quick session today and was averaging around 11.4k
Came within 1 rpm of my metal record though, so that was nice :) I think I need to invest in some surgrip though, as my metal was working its way out of my hand and in danger of being dropped at one point!

I think I need to invest in some surgrip though...
Although I didn't need it tonight for myself, I'd suggest it for a great grip, and probably a few hundred onto your record. (Once on the ball too it can last for quite a while, hence me not needing any tonight.) ;)
Did a quick endurance run the other day:
90s BH: 14078 (+4, rofl)
30s RH: 4771 - don't think I waited long enough after the 90s
30s LH: 5132 (+10, woo!)
Started off really well with the LH. I could have been on par for 5250 but slowed miserably in the final 10 seconds or so. Plus my stupid camera wouldn't take a decent still pic so I won't bother submitting it for now.
A few speed runs after were absolutely appauling around the 11.1 - 11.3k mark. I can't put my finger on it exactly but the ball just doesn't feel right in my hand at the moment when I go for speed. I'm trying slightly different angles in an attempt to find the sweetone again and thus my mental attitude is not 100% through some minor frustration. Mummy's little helper featuring in my runs probably isn't helping much either.
Must pop into town next week and get some Surgrip.
Tils.
*waves*
Still haven't had the urge to get back into balling properly. However, school restarts in a couple of weeks so once I get my weekly routine back (as my daughter will be back at pre-school - woo!) I can allocate a slot or two to proper balling and get back into it.
On a good note, the occassional cold spin is still coming up in the 11k-11.3k range, so all is not lost :)
Didn't manage to find any Surgrip, but if anyone has another brand they can recommend, I'll go with that.

I have been sneakily quiet - intentionally - for the last few months and will be for another 8 months or so :)
Balling is off my agenda at the moment as I can finally, finally announce that I am pregnant again :D Everything in the right place this time and due in May 2009. I'm expecting to get to gigantic proportions again (my first was a tad on the large side) so I'm leaving the ball alone for a while.
Having said that, I have been randomly cold spinning with unwashed hands and getting LH 11.2k RH 11k, so all is not completely lost :) I will be back spinning though once I've had baby and recovered fully.
So there ya go. I'm not hibernating, I'm incubating :p
