Things have been a bit quiet on the Powerball front for me lately, but I thought it was about time I started a thread here. And what better time to do so, after managing three records tonight. :)

Initial cold-run of 13413 was promising, as I usually hope to add 1000 to my speed scores when warmed up. 90s warmup of 16.5k, then a couple of 30s runs, then straight into speed. Couple of 13.8ks with my fast ball to start with. Then, I don't know why, I decided to pick up my #2 ball. Had 13.9k on the counter, and wiped that straight away with a 14016. Then 14160. Went for a run on my #1 ball and hit 13.8k twice. Odd.

I kept improving my speeds on the #2 ball, peaking at 14341, which I assumed would be my best of the night. Another couple of 30s runs, then a rest, then I went for 90s.

18705! :D

I have to say though, my left hand was appalling. Did 75% at least with my right. Just wish I could get my left up to speed and stronger, and I'm sure 19k+ is well within my reach.

Another couple of 14.3k speed runs, then I really went for it.

14476! :D

Only an improvement of 43 revs, but puts me up from 56th-ish to 43rd. (Weirdly, I still couldn't get over about 14100 with my #1 ball...so perhaps this new one is my "fast" ball.)

Tried another right-hand 30s and started a bit too fast really, slowing lots. Still managed 6739, which I was pleased with.

Finally, after a 13.9k earlier with my left I tried one more time.

14018! :D First 14k with my left.

Metal - could "only" manage 12626. It felt heavy and I couldn't get a good grip. :o

Will sort the videos for my two submitted records tomorrow.

*Drops jaw at gripper 90s*

Must feel totally awesome to break them records, for you it was probably a plastic day more then the metal. Good scores on metals though too, also well done on 14K LH.

Can't wait to see the vids and that 18.7k 90s :D

... and nice improvement on speed!

Go go UK!

Top scores my friend especially the 90's so glad you have kept the Grippers challenge going. I am sure that 19K is not too far away and maybe we can start splitting those Ed Tecs up;)

Great speed scores as well and glad you are back spinning like a legend again you endurance animal!!!!!!!!;)

Any idea why you suddenly hit a hot mode, was it the sight of those Ed techers crawling all over your 90s dominion? ;):p:D

Hopefully this hot mode will last and you can some more well derserved records.

Any idea why you suddenly hit a hot modeI don't actually think I did hit a "Hot Mode" to be honest. It wasn't like the last time, where I wasn't doing that well, then suddenly easily added over 200 to my 250Hz and 350Hz records. I just had a spare hour and I thought it was about time I at least posted some monthly scores.

The scores all felt pretty normal really. It wasn't like one of those times where it all just seems a bit easier. (Not like that last time I got some records, where quite easily added over 200rpm to both my 250Hz and 350Hz records...THAT was a brief Hot Mode.) No, when I'm in that mode next I'll be hitting 14.7k and 19k easily! ;)

Videos on the scoreboards by the way. As is Jez's incredible 15898.

Just watched the Vid bloody awesome. Nothing personal but compared to your other runs your left really sucked. You've got heaps of room for improv there when there both kicking ass

Adrena1in
26-04-2007, 12:40
...your left really sucked.Tell me about it!!

At 20 seconds in I almost decided to just go for a right-hand record, as I always know my left is going to let me down loads. Basically I just keep it going as fast as I can for around 5 to 10 seconds in order to just give my right hand a rest.

I'll work on it some more...do plenty of 90s runs with my left and see how I get on. Should be able to do some later and tomorrow, and perhaps have another crack at 19k before the end of the month.

(Perhaps I should hold the counter to my left palm. I tried that once, a long time ago, and gained more revs with my left than I lost with my right, which was interesting...)

Well someone is becoming a real poster-artist!!!

You inspired me! But it was very easy...just a flag image I downloaded and some text. I'll try and sort out some more images too, to make tributes to my fellow Powerballers when I break more records!

(My 14476 was for Thomas Guicheteau (Leg51). He and I have been having a close tussle for a while, each breaking the other's records. Mine was 14433, he beat me by 21 revs with 14454, so I beat him by 22 revs! :D )

Nice new speed score on gyrotek Tim must be starting to think about the big 15:rolleyes:

Once I get to 14.7k, then I'll start thinking about 15. ;)

My Analysis (which I can't seem to get a good graph from...I've changed the settings and now I just get a smear! :o ), puts me into the lucky zone I think. I did have a few counter errors last night, (at least 1000 less than the actual speed), but I think the analyser shows this latest record to be around 14530 ish, rather than the 14624 that the counter was flashing at me.

Still, it's acceptable in my books! Just about to leave for work...will update later, and post score and videos. (Also got two other records at the chat last night. My one and only 90s run was a right-hand warm up, and I scored 17606! Then I later managed 6796 at 30s. SO desperately want 6.8k! Or 6812+ to be precise.) ;)

Adrena1in

The one-hand 90s run was just so surprising. All I'd done was a cold-run of 13.3k, and I always then do a one-hand 90s run to warm up. Usually hit around 16.5k, but I was keeping up a really good speed and was so surprised to see 17606 on the counter. I could probably have gone a lot higher too, as I never give 100% straight away. (Made me think I was going to be more in endurance mode than speed mode to be honest.)

6796 for 30s came soon after as well...I think it was my third 30s run with my right hand, and my second over 6.7k.

The 14624 was the biggest surprise though. After a 14011 I started hitting 14.3k, scoring between 14314 and 14339 about six or seven times. Then suddenly 14624! It did feel a bit faster, but doesn't really sound that much faster when I compare it to various 14.3k and 14.4k scores I've achieved. Still, it also doesn't sound that much different to a 14.6k by Jonathan Cazes and a 14706 from Pako, so... (I was just a bit worried, because I'd got two or three definite counter errors, scoring 13.4k when it was definitely around 14.3k. I'm using my #2 Powerball, and it's getting a lot more use these days as it's become my fastest. Perhaps it is just a tempramental counter.)

Here's the analysis I did when I got into work. (Don't know why it produces a much nicer graph here than at home!)

Hey Adrena1in, well done man, well done. Really nice to see you getting into top scoring mode. I've been thinking that it's high time we start seeing some serious action from you again. 15k Speed should be within reach, just go for it.

This is a very interesting part of the year. All the greats, with the exception of Akis (who I think is waiting in the wings with a serious score) are really putting it on thick and that't inspired me and many others to also achieve new levels.

Can't wait to see what rabbit you pull out next, Tim!:)

Top spin buddy 14624K is definitely putting you in the mix, now transfer that speed into your enduarnce and l will stand back and watch you fly past!!;)

Look forward to seeing some more high scores :)

...it has been a while coming, do you think it was more a mental than physical issue?I just don't have such regular sessions these days...maybe only do one or two a month. But lately I've been making steady progress. The leap from 14476 to 14624 wasn't mental OR physical...I think I just got lucky, waiting for just the right amount of time after my record 30s run so that my muscles were rested, but not getting cold. (Tstering was right, the hot weather is beneficial...I usually don't like it.)

15k by the UK Championship perhaps! ;)

Out of interest, I decided to analyse one of my counter-errors from last night, just to see roughly what it might have been. Wish I hadn't...it was briefly higher than my 14624, though the counter said 13423!! :(

If the 14624 is right, the 13423 was actually around 14655.

Not too bad a session yesterday morning. 13.2k RH and 12.9k LH cold spins, so wasn't expecting much. Then 17.4k RH 90s and a new LH 90s record straight after of almost 16.9k, which I was pleased with. Would've been over 17k, but I was holding it rotor to palm, (to practice), and lost my grip a couple of times near the end.

Then I did 14210, then 14448 RH, which was very early on in the session...only about 7 or 8 minutes in. The third best score I've managed right-handed. Was the best I could do though. Did manage 6.3k LH 30s and 6.7k RH 30s, but they're about normal for me.

6.7K 30s as a normal score is boarderline crazy

Cheers. When I say "normal", I still have to work hard for it, but I seem to hit 6.7k just about every time I'm on form nowadays. Not hit 6.3k left for a while, so that's good. I did think I should have done a 30s-right, 30s-left, 30s-right 90s run, to see what happened, but I ended up allowing my muscles to cool too much while posting a message somewhere, and my session was over.

Nice encouraging sesh there Tim.

Yeah, I like to be consistent, which I am at the moment. Another sesh tonight at the Gyrotek Chat, and once again I hit just about 100% almost straight away.

Just under 13.2k and 12.8k cold runs, so not quite as good as last time. Almost 17.4k 90s RH, then a 2-hand 90s, mostly left, of 17.3k ish. Bam, 14.4k then 14503. Then I went; 14390, 6772 30s RH, 6415 30s LH (new record), 14393, 14321, 18448 90s, 14470, 14394, 14365, (then I tried standing up), 14528, 14350, (then I sat down), 14507, (stood up), 14480.

Not got good standing up scores for a while, and my technique became a bit like Dennis van Hoof's...arm moving upwards and around my body a bit. I might work on it. ;)

Wouldn't want you overtaking my speed score when I wasn't even trying. ;):DI don't think that's going to happen for a while, but you never know...new technique could mean sudden improvement.

I think my counter diddled me again though. I'm sure my 14528 (on the left) was marginally higher than my 14624. You can see I sort of changed up a gear, as Duane would say, but then levelled off quickly.

Wow, nice LH 30s! Maybe next time you give 90s a real try, you'll be able to make more use of that arm. Thats cool that you made such a good score standing up too. Sometimes sitting works better for me, but usually I stand. About the "changing gears", thats funny cause I noticed that exact type thing with my RH speed record of 13899. It seems like you're maxed out, but then you just push a little harder, and that gets you the record.

Another quick bash last night straight after work, and yet again almost exactly the same results. 13331 cold, 17.3k 90s RH, 14310 max speed two or three spins later. 7 or 8 runs all over 14k, but they all actually felt really slow...even the 14310.

My old #1 ball is definitely not happy...I couldn't get over 13500 with it last night, even after a good clean, so I'm worried the rotor's on its way out. (It's severely limiting my Dual-Hand spins...perhaps I should break out my newer 250Hz or one of my Neons!) I'll try the rotor in the shell of my current #1 ball and see if that makes any difference, as it might just be the support band or something, (even though that's relatively new itself).

Pretty successful result at the Gyrotek Chat Comp last night, seeing me take first in three or the four events. Funnily enough, my specialty of 90s is the one I didn't get first in...had to settle for second behind Obiw4n's excellent 18.6k. (Dare I say my endurance was a little off form?!)

http://gouidos.free.fr/live20070531.jpg

Wasn't having a great session at first. Started with a 13.6k cold run, which was favourable, but I couldn't even manage a one-handed 90s warmup. Scores at first were hovering around 14k, and slowly rising to 14.3k, where I seemed to pause for a bit, with the occasional 14.4k.

Then I remembered someone mentioning that to try for high scores they listen to a video from someone else, get the sound in their head, and then try to mimic it. I loaded up Dennis van Hoof's video of 14753 and played the high speed bit over and over and over, almost humming the note to myself. When I tried to mimic it I hit over 14.5k about 6 or 7 times in quick succession, from 14506 to 14544. Thought that was going to be my limit, but after some idle spinning and chatting, I suddenly felt I needed to get up and give it one more wellie. 14639 was flashing away. Just 10 revs over Gunit8, who'd got himself a new record that evening.

(Funny how four of the five people I assumed would be scoring over 14.5k a few weeks ago are now all within 11 revs of each other...Maxime, Julien, Thomas and me.)

6.6k 30s and 18.1k 90s are okay I suppose, but nothing special. Was pleased with 12771 on the Metal, which I did standing up...something I hadn't really tried with the Metal...and which also was on my newer ball.

Well, perhaps us "oldies" can challenge these youngsters after all. Not a bad new record last night, of 14694, (takes me to 26th on the scoreboard, just one place behind One-Eye). However, look at the analysis graph;

http://www.powerballs.com/tim_bridle/14694_Graph_Tim-Bridle.jpg

14840 might be a little ambitious, but it was damn close, and I was definitely over 14750 for more than half a second. Shame my counter didn't quite get it, but at least this shows I am capable of that sort of speed.

And earlier in the session last night I scored 14461 which was clearly nearer 14750. (I'm chasing you One-Eye! Don't forget our race to 15k!) ;)

I think I might have got a little closer last night. Cold spin was 13451, and when I got 14694 my cold spin wasn't even 13k. 90s RH, 90s LH, 90s Metal BH to warm up, (nothing special), then straight away hit 14157 then 14271, and it felt easy. But I got called away.

Will try and have regular 10-minute sessions like that to keep my eye in, and then I'll try and hunt down those dominant French! ;)

Not too bad a session last night. 13.5k cold, pretty rubbish 90s, (I just don't have any energy these days and can't do 90s one-hand...ended up something like 55s right, 10s left, 25s right, and it was still only 16.5k. :( ) Then I decided to break out my two new 250Hz balls. 13.9k on one, 14214 on the other. Couldn't then hit 14k with my previous fastest ball, so straight out of the box these new ones were quicker than my worn in one.

6.5k 30s wasn't too bad, and with my older 250Hz and one of the new 250Hz I was hitting between 13.9k and 14.3k a lot, but with the other new 250Hz I was recording much faster scores, my best being 14687 - just 7 rpm from my record and painfully close to 14.7k again. Was really hitting a wall. I could get to 14.6k quite easily with this ball, but then I couldn't squeeze any more revs out of it, and I was prolonging the top-speed as well. I'm sure that a hot mode soon is going to see me break 245Hz...14700.

One thing though...when I hit 14694 on my older 250Hz a few weeks back, I wish I'd taken Jarkko's advice and broken out these two new 250Hz, as one of them is regularly so much quicker than my older ball.

Oh, quite a few 12.7k Metal scores too, the best being something like 12723, which isn't bad! ;)

Nice sesh Tim.

I seem to be in the same situation as yourself, notching up respectable scores during a sesh but just waiting for a good hot mode to propel me on to the next level.

Incidentally, have found that that the grip training appears to be helping me with my metal.

No new metal speed record yet, but it's feeling easier.

Have you noticed this also?

Ah, okies.

Haven't really felt the need to try surgrip, or similar, yet.

Closest I've got to a grip compound is the sticky residue that sometimes comes off the zinc oxide plaster on my fingers when I've got blister(s).

Nice consistency there Tim. :)

Though frustrating it is very vital I suppose, staying consistent at one level then going into another level occasionally and finally ending up consistent on a higher level then before and so on.

I haven't found the grippers a substantial increase to the powerballing but some things have become easier. I did CCS a #1 today :D

Pretty good session today at the Gyrotek Chat.

New speed record of 14738...finally made 245Hz. Haven't moved up the scoreboard though. Several 14.6k down to 14.2k scores once I was on form. Almost a new Metal record too, with 12865. I also did 12848 and several 12.7ks.

Left hand still rubbish, (so not getting much use), but it meant my 90s was pretty naff...not even 18k...and my Dual-Run attempts were as dismal as usual...26.1k and 25.8k.

Think I might just rest my right arm for a while and only spin with my left...I hate being this imbalanced. :o

Well done and Well done.

You seem to be slowly but surely creeping up to that huhgely impressive 15K and I for one would love to see you do that. The fact that you weight a lot less then some of these 'musculation' guys (Cazes, Pako) would make it an even better feat. And if you make it at the Comp in Orpington that would be awesome.:eek:;):D

Linus: I've not been off form for a long time really. My cold mode was over a year ago, but when I changed rotation-direction I've made steady progress. At the moment I think I'm one of the most consitent Powerballers actually. My last few sessions in previous months have pretty much all ended with best scores within 20 or 50 rpm of my records. (Bar one session, where I wasn't really in the mood.)

Pete, I'm bigger than the likes of Thomas and Blaise and Julien, and they're all hovering over or 1rpm under 15k, so size really isn't a factor. But I'll definitely be at the live comp. At this rate I might have reached 14.8k by then - 15k by the end of the year perhaps! ;)

You do suck at Dual don't you. Still it's the one League I have an edge over you in so at least there is one good thing about it:p:p:p:p;)

Adrena1in

You do suck at Dual don't you.

Completely. I remember when I first tried it. Top speed I could manage with a single-hand run was 12.9k left, 13.1k right, yet I could still almost reach 26k Dual. Now I can do 13.5k left and 14.5k right, but I still struggle to hit 26k Dual. It's odd. Perhaps I should practice...I've spent so long spinning one hand at a time.

The one good thing about last night is that my slow left hand usually drags down my right, and at best I might get 13.1k left, 13.2k right. Last night I did manage 13.8k right in one run, (but only 12.1k left! :o ) That's because I think I was focussing on my right...I'll try focussing on my left and see what happens. But I will work on it, even if it's just to overtake you, LTLFTC! ;)

LTLFTC

But I will work on it, even if it's just to overtake you, LTLFTC! ;)
Any incentive will do. I've found I'm usually very balanced, but if I'm not I try leading with my weaker hand and force the stronger hand to catch up. All four 27k scores I've got have been that way but they have all been 13.7 R 13.2-3 L balanced scores I only tend to get high 26k.

Adrena1in
13-08-2007, 12:02
Gyrotek Chat last night, so I decided to give my left hand a bit of a session. After a quick warmup I was only reaching 12.9k, so it wasn't looking good, but I slowly improved to around 13.3k. Was hitting the Metal with my right, and doing very well there, with lots of 12.5k to 12.8k scores, culminating in a new record of 12873...just 4 rpm over my previous record, (which was a really old one...a bit of a freak hot-mode score way back).

Didn't look like my left was going to improve a great deal more, so I started to hit my right-hand with the Plastic. Straight away scored 14685, and managed several scores around there, with my best being 14734...just 4 rpm below my record. Still pleased.

Then I remembered something Akis said a while back. He mentioned working the weak hand, and when it hits Hot Mode, switch to the strong hand and records might come. When I'd stopped using my left I was managing 13.3k Plastic and 11.7k Metal. After my blast with the right-hand I switched back to the left, and did some 13.7k to 13.9k scores, and also got 12k with the Metal, which wasn't far from my best. Very odd that the LH speed would come together like that when I'd been working my right hand.

However, with 13.9k left and 14.7k right, could I manage a good Dual-Hand run? No!! 26k just about! :o

Endurance really off-form last night...I put it down to a bad headache. 6.6k 30s and 17000 (exactly) 90s, but I certainly wasn't really trying that hard in the 90s. Was trying a slightly different grip.

Yipee, epic barrier broken for me this evening at the Gyrotek Chat...13k with the Metal. Others have said that when they do this, 15k with the Plastic follows shortly. I don't feel fast tonight, (though managed 14695), so perhaps my speed mode will come later...

All in all though, I'm very :D

Cheers Rob, I was pretty psyched, I must admit, but I guess it was due. When I was hovering around 12.6k in March I added around 200 rpm in a freak speed run and reached 12869. Lately I've been hovering around 12.8k all the time, (my first run yesterday was 12800 exactly!), so I was due another 200 rpm leap, and it happened. Wow!! You are absolutely unstoppable! You deserve this every single bit as you've been around longer than most all of us... and I'm sure you've got a 15k plastic run in you yet. :D

Its interesting to read about different people's techniques for dual run. I usually try to lead with my LH, since thats where you lose most of your total from. Sometimes I get in a mode where I can "pulse" my whole body to where both left and right arms benifit from it... but most of the time the right arm is pulsing and the left is just off by itself.

I did dare mention what I was scoring last night because it was just embarassing. I think I managed 25.5k, but only just. It's not like one hand does well and the other is "off by itself" with me...they BOTH tend to be "off by themselves". Plus it was hurting...my arms, especially my left, would ache after a Dual-Run.

I just won't bother with it anymore.

Wow, 2 months since my last proper session. Been spinning a little here and then, and did a few cold speed runs lately, but nothing over 13.4k, except for one 14077, so I wasn't expecting much tonight.

Started slow, with 11.6k Metal, and a few mid 13k Plastic runs. Once warmed up a bit things started to get good though. Straight away hit 12.8k Metal, (though it actually felt quite slow). Couldn't get near that for the rest of the evening.

14.5k Plastic soon appeared, and then 14693 quite soon after, which was pleasing. Then I slowed. Did a Metal UPC, which was a killer, and got a new record there, which was cool. But the biggest surprise, after a couple of 14.5k Plastic runs, was trying to hold it a little longer, and then I saw 14756 flashing on the counter! Finally got ya Mr Shapter!! ;) Back into the Top 30 too, which is nice.

So for my first session in two months it's like I've not been away at all! Blisters all over my right hand though! :o

Well, tonight I took a step nearer to 15k. :)

Wasn't really expecting anything above the norm when I started with a cold run of 13360 Plastic and 11998 Metal...about right for me really I guess.

Did one of those Extreme UPC things first, knocking up 91.1k. Then 5240 30s Metal RH and 5165 30s Metal LH.

Speed runs started pretty well then, with 14394, 13381, 14363, 13335, 14340, 13404. Then 6495 30s RH and 6233 30s LH.

Rested for a couple of minutes, picked up the Metal, 12730, 11615, 12676, 11312. (My left is so pants these days! I even tried a Dual, getting 13.4k RH and 11.9k LH...with the Plastic that is!!)

A few more inconsequential speed runs with my "secret weapon", (can't tell you), and then WALLOP!!

14838!!!

I started the rotor off in the opposite direction to normal and it sounded bloomin' awful to tell you the truth, so my initial reaction of surprise turned to doubt, assuming it was a counter error. But Powerballalyser seems to suggest it's good, so I'm taking it.

Very chuffed, up into 23rd place, pipping Jarkko down one slot. (I did the same with the Metal a while back...he'll not be happy! :o ;) )

Lately I've not really included many runs with my LH as it's just so naff, but last night I tried to do 50-50. I don't think it makes that much difference though.

What I still can't understand about you is that you can do 11.6k cold, and then don't really improve much once you're warmed up. Slight improvement this evening, and another place up the leaderboard. Wasn't feeling like I had much in the way of stamina, so I only did the 30s and 60s runs of a UPC, left-hand then right-hand, as my warmup. Then straight into some Metal runs of 12.8k and 12.7k, topping out at 12955.

Picked up my #2 ball and increased the record on the counter from 14361 to 14631.

But when I picked up my #1 ball I started with 14802, then some high 14.7ks, one or two "disappointing" 14.6k runs, then 14858! Only a 20rpm increase over my old record, but I'll take it. Immediately after that I did 14860. And immediately after that I did 14859. How many others can say they've done three different-speed runs, back to back, with only 2 rpm separating the three? Couldn't top those, but a good session all in all.

And I think it might be the first time I'm a monthly leader...won't last! :o :)

...he deserved the month's prize...

Javier

I'm not sure if he would get the prize or not... Akis was the leader of last month, and according to the rules no winner will be awarded twice and in its stead the prize will be given to the next highest submission of the month. So even if Akis gets 18K and beats Gyro Jones this month the prize will go to the highest submission who has not yet received a prize (Possibly Tim, unless he has received a prize once before).

I wonder who got last month's prize...

14859...A great score Adrena1in! You have to be very close to 15k now! :)

14859 was the same score I submitted the session right before I hit my first 15k.

Here were the score entries I had at the time:

1/18/07 - 14,859 rpm
1/22/07 - 15,241 rpm

Maybe in 4 days or so you will hit that fun 15k zone! Keep spinning, Tim!

No, you're still getting that wrong...only a Monthly Winner can take home a prize. If they've already been a Monthly Winner then no-one gets the prize for that month.

Well done Tim, as an aside I've found an interesting thing with powrballyzer. If you set the vanes number to 8 instead of 4 then look at what half your score is, you often get a better pick up of the speed then double it. Yours was the best example I've seen in ages. I set the gain to .1 and window length to 1 got a nice fine line measured it and got exactly 7487.

Actually works even better with 10 vanes and divide the score by 2.5

Well done again

Think perhaps 15k might have to wait...had a quick session last night and it was appalling. These days just happen. I had such a day last Saturday during the live comp. The best thing you can then do is to lay down the powerball and do something else, but personally I just can't get myself so far if that happens.

Still...14k6 plastic ain't bad at. But that's just me saying that.

I've noticed that good powerballing requires a well rested and primed central nervous system.

Often times after a very good session where I overdo it a little, it will take a while before my body recovers enough to perform at the same level. Combine that with lack of sleep or improper nutrition and sometimes the gap between hot modes can be longer than you would like.

Sometimes I can force a good session by doing a bit of weight training using the proper muscles (maybe some bench press and dips) but the good part of those sessions are short lived as you've already fatigued the CNS.

Bottom line, keep spinning to keep your body adapted until you're just feeling good and fast, and then go for it!!!! you can do it! :)

Quick session last night, as I was inspired by the Telford event, (and by Akis signing my new Signature Ball), to train harder. Wasn't expecting any records as I'd had a tiring day, and when I started my warm up with a couple of UPCs things were looking bad. About 42500 LH and 46700 RH. My RH speed run was a bit better than normal, interestingly.

Hit the Metal and pulled out a 12.5k, and then managed around 14.4k Plastic.

That's sort of what I did throughout the session...I'd heard Jez saying how use of the Metal is great for Plastic speed, but that the muscles will only really be in the right shape for one or two Plastic runs, and then they'll need pumping with the Metal again. So I would do 3 or 4 Metal runs, then 1 or 2 Plastic runs, occasionally resting for a minute or two.

Best Metal score was 12992, and best Plastic was 14781. Probably my 3rd and around 7th (respectively) best scores ever, so not too bad.

I think I'll achieve 15k this year! ;)

You know how you can spin the ball by just moving your forearm up and down with no wrist, or you can just keep your arm still and do lateral wrist movements rather than circles. Which do you feel you do more of when pulsing??

Adrena1in
10-01-2008, 10:11
Which do you feel you do more of when pulsing??

I don't feel as though I move my wrist at all when I'm pulsing...I only feel the movement in my shoulders.

With my right hand being a little out of action, I gave my left a bit of a blast last night, in my attempt to head towards 12.5k Metal before Tstering! ;) But disappointing, only managing just under 11.8k, (and just over 13.8k Plastic). Seemed so much easier to get almost 12.2k Metal the other day, but I guess I just wasn't on form. Perhaps I overdid it a little with the two or three 90s runs I did! (Interesting that one, with the lightweight metal rotor, gave my arm more of a pump than when I did it with the Heavy Rotor!) Still not bad scores really.

Did have a few spins with my right hand, but with the rotor towards my palm, to protect my blister. 14k Plastic and 11.9k Metal wasn't too bad, but it was weird that my right hand was generally a little slower than my left.

I think my technique is very similar to yours. You just move your arm further back, and also use your left hand to pulse (which I never could quite do). So; same technique, you're just much better at it.

2-3 90s metal runs before a speed record is pushing it. I try to stick to 30s now, sometimes Ed Tech.

You just move your arm further back

I'm trying to move it forward and to the front...I can do it with my left hand, until I'm in a similar position to Akis or Jez, and a couple of times I've sort of bounced my body up and down to help drive the Powerball faster, and it seems to work. (I'm not just doing it to mimic them...I've long thought it's an ideal position.) Finding it harder to do it with my right arm though, as I've got so used to have my arm back or out to the side a bit.

I'll get there...

My arm automatically stays at my side, I have tried it back like you though. Sometimes I will turn to the left and slightly upwards to where my right arm is slightly behind and below me... this is difficult to do, but it always yields good scores. Holding onto something helps a little bit witht that technique.

Yet another average session last night. Average with respect to my speed scores I mean...below average because I only managed my peak high scores 2 or 3 times, whereas most runs were way off my records.

Started with one of my slow 250Hz balls...the record on it was 14297, and had been like that for probably about a year. When I did a 14.2k then a 14.1k, I picked up my fast ball and did well over 14.6k. So I decided that if I could do 14.5k with the slow one, 15k might be do-able on the fast one.

Managed nearly 6.2k 30 lh and 6447 30s rh, which was okay. Another 14.2k, then 14.3k, then a lovely 14555. Excitedly I picked up the fast ball, but only managed 14818. (Only! ) I then managed what felt like a faster run, but the counter said 11.8k! The analyser said around 14.8k again. Couldn't manage any more though, and all other runs were under 14.6k.

Same sort of thing with the Metal...12847 then 12900, then everything else under 12.6k.

Was pleased with my left hand though. First Metal run was 12231, and bizarrely it felt slow and awkward. Might have been an error, but gave me hope for 12.5k soon. Couldn't get over 12k again. LH Plastic was performing the best, starting at around 13k, and rising rapidly to high 13ks, with many 13.8k runs, one after the other, culminating in a 13960. Very close to both my speed records there.

I should've given it a go last night actually...I seemed to have quite nice energy levels, and although I wasn't going balls-to-the-wall on my 30s runs, I was still keeping a really constant speed going...6.2k LH and 6.4K RH was quite easy, so I think I could've gone over 18.5k. Next time...

(But in all honesty I think Leg51 can already easily do 19k if he puts his mind to it. I mean, come on, he can do 15.6k RH and something like 14.6K LH speed!! I've improved my speed a lot since doing 18705 too, so should be able to get close to 19k.)

Thats about what I'm at, apparently you are better at endurance than I.

Tim, I am pretty much satisfied with my 19k ed tech for the time being, and would love to join in the gripper competition. Before I get into it too hardcore though I'm going to try improving more in the speed league, then get some video evidence of an ed tech run. 90s gripper has always greatly hindered my speed capabilities, thats why I'm so cautious.

Hard to say really, my last proper session was at the last Gyrotek Chat, when I got 14.4k. But that was on an old ball as my two fast ones are faulty. I haven't got over 14.5k on my old ball for a long time, even when I was doing 14.9k on the newer "fast" ones.

Quick session tonight, it's getting to be too long between practice for me though.

Started with some 30s runs, scoring around 2300 rpm lower than my best! :o, but ending in a 6.3k. Speed was dire, with mid 12k LH and mid to high 13k RH scores.

Picked up the Metal though, and BANG! 12830!! I'm glad I still have what it takes to rip those high Metal scores, but when my top-end speed is gone with the 250Hz, and I can still easily get around 13k, then I don't find it that much of a problem with the Metal, as it's the same action for me, just a lot "heavier".

30s Metal of 5.4k, then a couple of one-hand 90s runs. LH seemed okay, and got a fairly decent 16.6k. Couldn't keep it going with my RH though, and gave up after about 75 seconds. Good few minutes rest, then I compared my newer Powerballs against the Old Skool I bought the other week. Mid 13ks LH, nearly 14.4k each time RH.

So not all bad I guess. Just need to do this MUCH more often.

I was probably way too tired after a bit of a gruelling 45-mile bike ride this morning, (first ride in months, so serves me right. And to think, I was cycling 24 miles to try and get to an 8-mile time-trial event, but got a puncture just a mile from the venue, which in a way was quite fortunate! But that was two punctures I had to repair today, so my fingers are a little tender), so it's not surprising I didn't do that well at the chat. 6.3k 30s, couldn't reach 14k speed, only just over 12k Metal. Then I thought, 'What the hey!', and picked up my Old Skool ball. You know, the one I got recently which meant I could send my old one to AM_. Bang, 14.4k. Followed by 14514! Back to the new balls, 13.7k, 13.8k.

Crikey, if only I'd had this Old Skool when I was hitting nearly 14.4k on the new balls. Just goes to show, it does pay to have a really fast ball, and this one's a doozy. I want to let someone else have a go on it to see if it's really that quick, or just that my others are not quite worn in yet, but I'm reluctant to put it in the post of course. :o

Bang, 14.4k. Followed by 14514! Back to the new balls, 13.7k, 13.8k.

My scores are much like yours. I recently picked the ball up and stuggled for 14k managing just over 13.5k. Shows how much you can lose off your score if you take a break off powerballing. I still can't get my head round your old school ball and why it's so fast, like 500rpm faster! That's pretty crazy. Maybe Akis has one of these balls and is it affecting his score.

I will have to join you next competition and get back into the swing of things. If you go for 15k I'll try to catch you up. ;)

You were there, but then timed out, so guess you just popped in?

With hindsight, I'm not sure this Old Skool is really that frighteningly fast. When I was hitting 14.9k on my now dead ball, I was getting near 14.5k with the lightweight metal rotor. Last night I only just managed 14k with that. This indicates the Old Skool is about the same as my old fastest ball, and my two newer ones are simply not worn in yet, or aren't that quick. What I'll do is work with them and try to get back to near 14.5k with them. Then I'll pick up the Old Skool again and make it flash 15k.

Whatever, I was really pleased to hit 14.5k after such a long break. Wrist's a little sore today! :o

I'm sure it's because of our little conversation few days before ^^

Now you just have to train regularly to hit 15k !

Good .... ..in fact you won't need luck ;)

You'rtte right, and I'm going to try and train at least 3 or 4 times a week. Had a quick session last night. Cold run of 13.3k, then did a UPC, but really died in the middle of the 90s - 6.1k, 11k, 15.6k!, 13.9k speed. Tried some 100% 30s runs, and did 6.2k, 6.3k, 6.2k. Straight away hit a few 14k speed runs, maxing on 14150. (With my newer 250Hz balls). Picked up the Old Skool and only managed 14.3k, then 14485. Weird how I managed over 14.5k on it the other day when I couldn't even hit 14k with the new ones.

Best thing was my one and only Metal run...over 12.5k, which is more like it.

Yeah, right!! :p

Still, okay session last night. Wasn't looking great when 14k was a struggle, but it was so humid at home I didn't feel like warming up properly. Still, as the time went on I got quicker and quicker, pulling out a 14.5k run, and then ending on a 14701, which I was pleased with. 12.5k Metal was the best I could manage there. 6.4k 30s was a bit poor, as was 17.2k 90s.

However, that 90s was straight after a previous one, where I got a counter error. How bizarre...counter must've just stopped counting for 15 seconds or something, because it read 14.2k!! No way was it that low. I HAD to do another one after it to make sure I wasn't going mad. :p

I can't believe you haven't had one before. Before I filed my buttons down I got one every second run. YOu press reset on the palm of your hand.
absolute PITA

Ah, but no, that's not a counter error, is it, that's user-error...if I had pressed ON/CLR 15 seconds into the run, when I looked at the counter after 90s it would still be counting down, wouldn't it? It wasn't...it had finished counting and said 14.2k. Must've been a true counter error, losing 15-seconds worth of revs.

I'm very pleased with 14.7k, and very surprised too. It was a struggle to get past you first, and I did, with 7 revs to spare. I didn't think I'd then catch Stephen, who'd managed 14280, but when I just about did I really thought that was my all. Don't really know what I did, but it seemed the Dual-Hand runs really helped. I just seemed to be able to spin the fast ball up to 14.5k then 14.7k after my Dual-Hands.

I should've spun my slower balls at that point, as I'm sure I could've got their counters flashing too! ;)

I was thinking that after I wrote it. Maybe you pressed it three times and put it into 60s mode and did 14.2k for 60's that would be impressive:rolleyes:

As James has already said, quick session last night, as we're trying o encourage each other to get back into training again.

Cold run was only just over 13k, and 90s warmups were a little over 16k. :o But as time went on my speed runs crept up, then stabilised at around 14350. One 14415 and then 14535 or something like that. 12.5k on my only Metal spin. What surprised me the most was my endurance runs. 17891 90s, where my left hand was useless and my right wasn't that great either. Then towards the end I tried a 30s rh only and I seemed to be able to keep a good speed going for 15 or 20 seconds, slowing towards the end, and nearly hit 6.7k. 6691 I think, which is my best for a long time.

I must get my lh into better shape and then start hunting down LTL. ;)

Slight speed improvement at last night's chat. 14613 Plastic and 12609 Metal. I was desparate for 14.6k, and made it on my final spin of the session. Final Metal spin was 12603. 90s was so-so, at 17747, and I managed 6.6k twice at 30s, (RH only, always). Usually sit down for this, but tried it standing up and made a slight improvement, but ohmygod it was *MUCH* more tiring!

Surprise of the night was a Dual-Hand run. 13023 LH and 13460 RH. Still pretty rubbish, but that's the first time in ages I've got 13k both hands and been quite balanced, plus it was within 100 of my best. Perhaps there's hope for my LH yet, though I could only manage 13.5k speed and not quite 6k 30s. :o

Your one hand endurance never ceases to amaze me. I saw a video once of your 30s run maintaing 13k+ for 30s it looked so easy. I'd be getting 20k 90s if I could do that. I was only getting 13.8R hand when I got 19k so your not far away from an improv

My problem is my left hand. The better my right gets, the worse my left gets because I don't use it because my right is doing so well! Vicious circle. If my left was as good as my right I'd be well over 19.5k already I think. :o

I'm not going to let you get too far ahead this time James. After my 13.9k cold run as soon as I got in from work, then a 13.7k cold run at the start of my session, I thought it ought to be quite good.

14741.

That's got to be my highest score in about, I don't know, 7 or 8 months? This year??

You and I, James, can be an experiment. Pretty even at the moment...I'm not going to use my Raptor for a while Not a scientific test, but might be interesting to see the results in Manchester...see if our improvements are different. :)

It seems the slightly more often sessions might be paying off a bit. Started okay this evening with a 13.5k and 13.6k couple of cold scores, and with my slower ball too...a ball I've never got over 14.4k on. Crumby 90s and 30s runs really, but the speed crept up to over 14.3k. Picked up the fast Old Skool ball and couldn't get much more on it really, peaking at 14.5k.

Then I got 14403 on the slower ball. Few more 14.4k to 14.5k scores on the faster ball, and then a lucky spin of 14889! I think that's my second best score ever. :D

Couldn't get close to it again, but I've analysed it and it was legit. So I'm pleased with that. Nothing else was going particularly well though.

Well, one of my strengths has always been consistency. I do occasionally hit a lucky peak score, but generall my scores are always pretty even. Fluctuating between 14.3k, 14.6k and that one almost 14.9k doesn't seem very even to me. I'll have to be lucky in Manchester I think. (Still, plenty of time to train and improve my scores.)
