Hey all, I'm new on the boards, some of you may have seen me talking about how i stumbled into this world and i hope you guys like me cuz I'll be around for a while! I only got my powerball on Wednesday night and i thought i'd do a little timeline thing to show everyone my progress.. Still in the early stages but check back soon for new world records! Haha, j/k!

18/04/2007 - Found Powerball in a pile of junk my friend was throwing out when she cleaned out her closet, was intrigued and decided to take it to pieces, put it back together, then see what i could do.. Not much.
Max Score: 1981rpm which came only from starting it.

19/04/2007 - Asked some questions on the forums, gave it another go, broke the 2000rpm mark (Wow, right?) Then read a little bit about technique and practiced in the evening.
Max Score: 4140rmp

20/04/2007 - Tried again in the car on the way to work (dont worry, i wasnt driving!) but couldnt really get it going, managed less than 2500 then, after reading a few topics and taking everybody's advice (especially LTLFTC) had another go at lunch.
Max Score: 6221rpm

And that, i guess, is the story so far. As you may be able to see, I'm going for highest RPM as my measure of success, im not sure how the 30, 60 and 90s things work yet so if someone wants to post an explaination, that would be awesome!

Finally, would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been helping me out with special mention to fellow (less imported) sandgroper, LTLFTC! Thanks again guys and stay tuned for updates! There will be updates...

Glad to hear you are stikking arround... Good going on the scores by the way...

...im not sure how the 30, 60 and 90s things work yet so if someone wants to post an explaination, that would be awesome!...

It basically counts the number of revs done by the rotor in that amount of seconds... 30s, 60s or 90s. If you press the FCN button past the high score mark you get to the 30s function. Press the on/clr button quickly and it moves on to 60s and by pressing it again it goes on to 90s. Once the ball starts moving, it starts a counting down the seconds and at the end of the countdown it shows you the number of revs achieved during that period. Check the threads for a more detailed explanation if you need.

There are currently only a 90s score board, called the strength league, so if you achieve a 90s score you can post it there. The 30s and 60s functions are mostly used for training... or to impress your fellow powerballers with your signature.

New Max Score: 6290 Set just then!

So do you have to start from nothing with the strength test thingies? Maybe I'll do a 60s one now just to see how i go and then i'll post my score on here.. Dont expect it to be too flash but I'm interested to see everything my new toy can do :D

Hey all,
I think I'm starting to get the hang of this Powerball thing (no pun intended) and I have a few new scores for you all..

Yesterday afternoon, i managed approx 7200 then this morning, i managed 7500. I was pretty happy with 7.5k but i kept going and, well, i have a new max score of 9049!! Also, i managed to keep the ball going at around 6000rpm for well over half an hour, then i got a phone call from the cops (they found the guy that broke into my car, but you know how it is, you always get freaked out when they say "Good afternoon, it's Detective so and so from the Metropolitan Police here...") so i think i might finally be getting the technique right!

Check back for more updates, im still hoping i can break 10k before the end of the weekend!

Thanks everybody, for all your support, believe me, no one is more impressed with my progress than me! When i first picked this thing up i tought i'd NEVER get it to work but I soon proved myself wrong! :p

So i have another update for you today. After i posted yesterday with my new high score i took a shower and got ready to go out, then decided to give it one more go to see what i could do and i broke 10k :D I got 10023rpm but that wasnt enough for me! I took the ball with me to a party i was going to to get my friends addicted (which i did, quite successfully) and broke my record AGAIN, and got 10231rpm. After i showed my mates how to use it we kept it spinning, between us, for about 6 hours non-stop, lol, but it got more and more difficult as we had more and more to drink.

Anyway, i think my 10231rpm record will stand for at least a few days because my fingers feel like they're going to fall off :p I think i over did it, but i still cant put it down so I'm just using it at low revs today, no records broken today i dont think but I'm hoping it wont stand for too long!

Also, I think i've perfected the thumb start, but i cant do it that well today cuz my fingers hurt :(

Thanks again guys for all your help and support, there will be more updates soon!!

good advice but extremely hard to follow, especially if you're new to powerballs. I remember finding it almost impossible to take even a day off in between. The only thing that stopped me were the blisters and sore fingers;)

good progress Stiky. You'll crack 11k pretty soon methinks. :)

Hehe, perhaps, but i am still very grateful for you helping me out and maybe i can send them onto another new powerball user when i get the chance :) I think the stings might still be useful, my thumb starts arent exactly 100% consistant at the moment!

Dont have any new records for you guys today, unfortunately, i did do a few high 9k runs and one 10k run yesterday so i proved to myself it wasnt a fluke or counter malfunction :p I've been experimenting with the other counter functions, especially that one that counts the total revolutions in 100s. (Is that right?) I wasnt really going for speed yesterday so i decided i'd see how far i could get that up in one day and i got to just under 8k before my hand gave up!

Congrats on getting through the 10k barrier, 10.5k will soon follow I'm sure. ;):D

The strength mode function counts total revs @ 30s, 60s or 90s depending on which one you select.

If you want to see your scores improve rapidly, I would definitely recommend the Strength Mode function. Get into the mode where it says "90" on the counter, then get spinning with one hand almost as fast as you possibly can. After 10 or 20 seconds it'll start to hurt a bit, but keep at it. By the end your arm will feel like lead, and your speed will probably have almost dropped to nothing, but rest for a minute or two and then try speed...you might be surprised.

You might even want to put the counter into the first function, then spin it fairly hard for 10 or 20 minutes, (or maybe even more), changing hands every 30 seconds to a minute. That'll really pump the muscles and also often helps with speed. (When my best was 12.8k I did an hour of hard endurance, and my arms were knackered, but 2 or 3 minutes later I managed a new record of nearly 13k.) :)

Hey everyone!

I finally got my laptop working, my proper computer isnt working but my laptop will do for now :p All my technology seems to break down, useless stuff, never liked it anyway. But the real reason for this post is that i have taken your advice and done some endurance runs and i only have a 60 and a 90 for you guys. The 60 was last night and the 90 just now..

60s: 7000+ approx, didnt write it down, sorry!
90s: 12220

I was aiming for 10k on the 90s so i was quite surprised to see over 12. I have little idea as to what these numbers mean, except that i'm about 8k off the world record :o Also, i watched the video of Akis doing his world record after i did mine to get some inspiration and a bit of an idea of technique for strength runs and i noticed he started from nothing.. I spun the ball up and then pressed the button while it was spinning about 2500 or 3000 rpm.. Should i be starting from 0rpm like Akis did to get a better idea of my strength score?

Any feedback would be much appreciated, im gonna do a video next week, hopefully, so you guys can tell me what im doin wrong :)

Thanks
Ollie

Think you'll find Akis spins his ball up to speed too before pressing 'clr' to start the 90s timer. ;):D

Good effort on your endurance scores btw, now you have a benchmark to compare your future scores against.

The strength mode counts the total number of revolutions made by the rotor over a timed period either 30, 60 or 90 seconds.

So, for example, if you scored 15000 on a 90s strength run you would have been spinning at an average speed of 10k for a minute and a half.

Doesn't sound like much, but your arms can feel like lead after. Especially if your doing a single hand run.

Keep at the enduro runs and you'll notice your speed scores will improve also.

When I first started doing strength runs (all those years ago) I was having a little competition at another forum, and we had a rule where the Powerball had to be stationary at the start, but you could use the string to start it, and you could only use one hand for the run. My records were 5483 - 30s, 10883 - 60s and 15286 - 90s. (Still quite proud of those scores really...wonder what I could do now.)

To get a proper idea of what you can achieve you want to be spinning the Powerball as fast as possible first though, then press ON/CLR to restart the counter.

I'd definitely recommend lots of one-handed runs to start with. It'll get you into the mode where you can maintain a good constant speed, rather than starting too fast and slowing lots towards the end. (The best speed to maintain is the one that causes you to slow down only in the last few seconds. ;) )

Stikky
24-04-2007, 15:54
Haha, does he really? Sneaky, i didnt see him do that but it makes sense now that you mention it..

Just a quick update, did 2 more 90s runs, one with my right hand, one with my left:

Right: 12098
Left: 11003

So using one hand, im a little off my previous pace, not surprising, really. My arms do feel like lead, One-Eye, this is great! I can feel it doin some real work on my arm, especially my shoulder! I just wish my hand wouldnt give up before my arm muscles.. My pinky fingers still hurt like hell from my marathon session on Saturday!

Quite proud of 15k from a standing start?! That's amazing! I'm still not really great at starting.. I can do it but sometimes it takes me a long time cuz i can keep it going, i just cant get it to accelerate until i find that rythm that gets it going so my score would be pretty low, i should think!

Hey everybody!

How are we all this morning? I have some updates for this thread, some new highest RPM scores! (It was about time, i went two whole days without breaking my record! :p) Last night i was just spinning my powerball at low revs and watching TV and i decided to do a run and see how fast i could get it going. My hands are slowly recovering from overdoing it last saturday so i thought i'd see what i could do.. Anyway, i broke my record and got 10275rpm which was only a few more than my last record but hey, any improvement is still improvement, right?

That's not the end of the story though, i put the ball down and my dog, being the helpful little fella that he is, came over to me (he's scared of the powerball) with a stress ball in his mouth.. Where he got it from or why he was giving it to me was a mystery but i started squeezing it and took a bit of a break and tried again and got 10330rpm! Anyway, i kept squeezing the stress ball and trying again and i beat my record 4 times in a row, in total!!

New Max RPM: 10853rpm!!

I think the stress ball really helped me, actually, because i find that biggest limiting factor for me is my grip on the ball. At really high revs it starts to slip out of my hand so i have to grip it really tightly (obviously) so it doesnt fly out of my hand. I think the stress ball helps me warm up my gripping muscles and gives me a better hold on the ball. Also, it's soft so it feels nice on my fingers after gripping the hard plastic powerball :D

Anyway, that's pretty much the story to this point.. Im taking the day off today but don't worry, 11k will be gone by the end of tomorrow.. (I hope!)

Thanks
Ollie

yeah 30s mode rocks, not a bit fan of 60 or 90s modes personally, mainly because I prefer to use only the one hand during the run. :)

It will definitely give you a great warm up and you might well be surprised what an endurance run can do to your scores when you are in the middle of a session.

yeah ive done a few to warm up, can't remember what I got last time. I'll note the score next time I have a go. It's torture near the end though ;), the first time I did it, it was hard to keep a grip on the ball because my hand went numb after about 70s :p.

Hey all!

Been a couple of days since i updated this thread but i have updates on pretty much everything.. New scores all around tonight!!

Ok, we'll start with 90s endurance runs.. Havent made as much progress as I'd hoped there, my previous best was around 12.2k from memory and i broke that yesterday, managed around 12.8k but i broke my record again tonight and my new max 90s endurance score is.... 12921.

So next is Max RPM which has been pretty slow progress since my initial dash to 10k. I havent really been smashing my records and making huge headway in the max rmp stakes.. I have been consistantly been getting around 10.5k every time i tried, which has been annoying, but i had a bit of a breakthrough tonight. I managed to shatter my previous record and got a new max RPM of 11423!:D:D:D I finally broke the 11k barrier and now im heading towards 12k, hopefully I'll be there in no time!

Ok, finally, I'll outline my new goals in light of my new records.. As for my endurance, I think it needs some work so im gonna concentrate on that a bit more.. Unfortunately, i promised myself when i broke 11k i'd give myself a bit of a break so Im gonna take a few days off powerballing to let my hands recover.. So my new goals are as follows:

90s Endurance:
13000 (both hands) by the end of the week
12500 Right hand
12000 Left hand (No specific timeframe for them, maybe end of next weekend)

Max RPM:
Score consistantly in the 11s to prove to myself it wasnt a fluke
12000 RPM by the end of May.

Ok, that about does it for now, it's a fairly big update but I havent updated for a little while so thats why its so long!

Thanks guys!
Ollie

Nice going there, 10.2kk to 11.4k very quickly...let's hope you continue with that rate of progression.

One of your goals seems a little low to me though. If you're aiming for 12k and 12.5k one-handed over 90s then I reckon you should be looking more to 14k with both hands. 500 revs difference between one-hand and both hands is quite small.

Plus most people over 90s maintain around 82% of their top speed score, and in your case this would be 14050 over 90s. Very soon I think you'll find 13k easy, that's all. I mean, 12921 is practically there really. :)

Yeah, you're right, Adrena1in, i think I need to revise that goal.. Ok, new goal is 14k as suggested by Adrena1in, cuz an increase of 79 revolutions isnt really too much of a challenge.. 14k it is then :D

Dont really have much to report except that I did a few more speed runs to prove to myself that it wasnt a fluke. I find i get around 10.5k most of the time but when i really concentrate on my technique, i can get 11k+ consistantly so I'm happy it wasnt just a one off. I think im starting to level off now, I dont expect to see any more massive jumps in rpm values so it's all hard work from here :D Thats ok, I can deal with hard work :p

Thanks!
