Hi everyone,
I just thought that since my scores have been climbing pretty rapidly recently, that I should make my own scores thread.
They're not very good, but they're as good as my litle arm can get me :D
Can't remember when----------7984
14/4/07----------8144
15/4/07----------8253
15/4/07----------8453
Nearly at my goal of 8500, and when I reach that, I'm gonna go for the big 9k
Thanks,
Arran Kenny
You just keep spinning buddy. One of these days you'll see 10000 rpm on the counter. I am convinced the difference between 10000 and where you are now is technique, not power. Study the vids and make sure that you're technique is pure and smooth.

I Did It, I Beat 9000!!! 9073!!!
I'm sure you'll crack it during your next session.
Don't forget to have a go at the 30s & 90s endurance modes.
These can help you to warm up and train your muscles into what they should be doing.
Also, don't forget to let your muscles rest sufficiently to recover properly for the next big push.
;):)
Edit: oops, took waaay to long writing this post. Didn't realise you were actually on a sesh.
Well done, 9.5k now please ;)

Arran Kenny,
It sounds like you are getting the hang of it based upon your quick improvements. I think even 10k or even 11k is probable in a week's time.
In the beginning, once you are accustomed to the motion of the Powerball, you start to develop a technique that is all your own. You then naturally get good at it with practice, and the records start falling rather quickly.
Find some good videos of someone doing 12k or 13k. Watch their technique, learn the rythym of their movement along with the sound of the Powerball, then secure a good grip and give a real go. You might be surprised by what happens next. ;)
Keep spinning! 10K+ next! :)
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

yeah I think you should be able to reach 11k soon as well. You seem to be getting the hang of the technique now, so don't be surprised if you take large leaps forward in the next couple of days.
Don't overdo it though, take regular breaks every few days to make sure you don't damage any tendons or strain any muscles.
Good luck

I've been there and done that. I have just recovered from a painful right arm causeed by the first three days of powerballing. So I thought I would be sore today...but...no. I think my arms are getting stronger and stronger, but I bet they will be hurting tomorrow :(

I agree, said that a couple of posts ago in this thread. The only reason you are not getting over 10k is because I believe your technique needs a lot of work. The better the technique, the better the speed. Work on that technique.

You may think like 10k is a mile away, then one day you'll see 10k easy peasy, then slowly 11k is easy and then where i am, where 12k is easy

Good work. Keep going. I'm still on recovery. Really need to work on the grip on my right hand. That's the problem at the moment. Can't hold it any higher than the mid 9's. Starts to slip. Left hand has great grip but a rubbish wrist.
Loads of work to do. I may be some time..........

I think I can actually go faster on my old powerball. The computer adds a bit to the size and affects my grip. I can spin it upside down in my left hand with my strong finger grip but with my right hand I have to hold it into my palm alot more and end up rubbing against the rotor.
I'm not going to rush it though so don't you either. Don't push yourself too hard just to race me or your friend. Rest is one of the most important parts of any exercise regime. I'm going to be labouring again this weekend so I don't expect any real progress soon. Quite an effort for an office wimp like me all this drilling, sanding and painting.
I've not doubt you'll hit some high scores but just take it in your stride. Need to progress alongside your body not ahead of it.
All the best.

Well done on the improvement, 10k will soon come.

Now you make me feel all clever and important...:D :D :D
Adrena1in once made a very profound statement: How strong you are has got very little do do with the speeds you achieve. I, of course, thought that was the biggest load of rubbish. Until I saw what kind of scores guys like PeteMayhew were able to achieve.
Pete is a sturdy lad and I am quite sure that he is no weakling, but I have been a sportsman all my life and, apart from the last couple of months, have always been pretty fit and relatively strong. Yet Pete's score is very close to mine and his 90s score kicks my butt.... because his technique is very good.
So technique is very important. Think of the sport of javelin throw. A couple of years ago there were some big, and I mean BIG, muscular British fellows doing some good 80m plus distances. In storms a scrawny chap by the name of Jan Selezny (unsure of the spelling) and throws the javelin 10 meters further. I'm sure the british guys were stronger. But Jan had a faster and more fluent technique - hence the improvement.
You'll be surprised how fast you'll spin once your technique really becomes good.
I think you are doing well.
You should change the topic title - think optimistically! "Arran Kenny's Progress" might be a more suitable topic title.

I'm no expert but i say if it's not hurting then carry on i guess.
Btw im not very strong & i can sometimes get upto 11k using my technique.
Basically i concentrate on keeping my whole arm locked while @ the same time bend my arm so that my hand is level with my waist or belt high, then i try my best to keep my arm still while i only use my wrist to spin the ball.
Keep going like this & try to make your wrist movements as small as possible but faster keeping the rest of your arm locked still.
I hope this helps you get a higher score Arran cos if a weekling like me can get 11k then im sure you can too.:)

Hi Arran,
9664 left hand 9024 right hand.
Absolutely ecstatic about the left as that was the one I screwed up. These Poweballs really do work. Right hand still pretty poor though. Still no grip sadly.
Going to do slower speeds this week and build up the grip and work on
tecnique as I'm pretty sure mine sucks. I'm sure I'm shaking the powerball up and down and side to side too much.

If you have problems with gripping the powerball, make sure you wash your hands and the ball regularly when you are using it. If there is any grease or oil in the surface it makes it extremely slippery and hard to grip.
Your grip strength will improve drastically if you powerball a lot but no amount of grip will help if you don't get any traction between skin and plastic :)

arrankenny
30-04-2007, 18:52
What do you mean?
Arran
We mean it's good to keep working your non-dominant hand. ;):D
I'm assuming by your scores that you, like most, are right handed. So your right hand is your dominant hand.
Your left, or non-dominant hand, is typically not as strong as your right hand or at least not as coordinated.
So, it's good that you are working on your left hand also as this will help improve your 90s endurance scores when you alternate between your hands.
Also, if you do have 2 Powerballs, it is good to have a practiced non-dominant hand as this will improve your scores.
In fact, I have found that doing dual runs has improved the speed and coordination of my left (non-dominant) hand and my LH scores have improved considerably since.
Sanders83
30-04-2007, 21:35
Interesting, One-eye. I'm left handed but my right arm and wrist are alot stronger so is my right still the dominant hand? Has to be said that my left still has much better grip from being left handed.
If you're left handed, then that is your dominant hand.
But it's still a generalisation to state that the dominant hand is typically stronger and more coordinated.
Right handed powerballers have sometimes found that their left hand is actually quicker than their right hand, but their right still remains stronger and better at endurance.
The opposite can also be true for left handed powerballers.
I think it's probably fairer to say that the non-dominant hand just lacking the coordination of the dominant hand at first and needs a bit of practice to bring it on to a similar level.

Not got very high on my Left, highest of 82**.
My blister has gone, the area is just sore now.

Keep at it and you will break your record soon.
Don't forget to keep working the left hand at least as much as your right so it too will improve.
Also, don't forget to rest completely from Powerballing for at least a few days to a week every so often to let your muscles and all recover properly.

Nope I'm afraid not.
Today I could only manage 10048, so I'm not happy. But I have just remembered that I recently chaned my grip, so if I change it back, then I should get some new records.
Has anyone got any other advice?

Technique/grip is very important. I broke 10k on my left by changing technique. I've got alot better on my right and don't have to shake the Powerball as much as I used to. I'm alot more controlled and can get high speeds using the ball in a circular motion down by my side and can really see what people mean when they talk about high speeds when the ball is hardly moving at all. You can see in my vid how much I used to shake the ball.

Although at the time it was a record and a good score for me it should serve as a guide on how not to do it.
Keep at it and try to build the strength in your arms before going for the speed. Have a good few sessions on endurance at about 8-9k before resting and then having a speed session.
I know you're just around the corner from 11k but it's just waiting for that "eureka" moment when you make those jumps and progress.

aaaaaaarrrgghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No new scores, but a lot more blisters!
Im getting them on the insides of my little fingers and they kill!!!
Arran
The new scores will come when you least expect them! Do you do 90/30s runs at all? (sorry, not read back through your thread). I'm finding that I get a record a few days after doing some 30s/90s runs.

well, I startoff a session with 30s on my right, then 30s on my left, then 90s using both hands, then I do speed runs, but I dont keep trsack of my 30s/90s scores.

Nar, no new scores. But ive just had my first ever dual run and I scored:
RH:8173 + LH:8323 = 16496
Is this good?
So, how about you Sanders???

Not compared to the world scoreboard, but at least you've got both hands fairly even - which in the long run is the key to really outstanding dual-run scores. And since that's only your first try, you should easily be able to improve more.

Best is 11497 I'm afraid. I'm back weight training quite heavily now and the extra beef on the shoulders makes alot of difference. Hard combining both weight and powerballing though. If I powerball during a supposed rest period it does affect my shoulder performance on the next workout. Dropped a 55 kilo barbell on myself the other week cos of it. Now fitted a safety rack to my bench.
a quick 5mins of powerballing on each arm before going to the gym will keep the mussles moving in the arm without affecting the workout.
