View Full Version : Speedcubing benefits :)
Hello thar!
I'm new to these boards, and new to powerballing. I actually just purchased one today after hearing about how beneficial they are. I am posting here because I want to know if any of you speedcube and if using the powerball has improved your times at all?
I average about 19 seconds right now speedcubing and I'm hoping that my time will drop once i increase the strength and dexterity of my hands.

Jeph,
As you know I am somewhat of a speedcuber myself (solving at best in only 30 seconds), so I feel inclined to answer in the least. To be honest, ever since I got into Powerballing, I have not really picked up the Rubik's cube much to find out. I've been Powerballing hard since the start. Perhaps I will now, that I know more speedcubers are getting into Powerballing.
I know that Edouard Kulik is also a cuber, so I would hope he might see this thread and offer some feedback for you. He has actually been Powerballing longer than I have.
I'll have to try solving again this weekend sometime to see if there have been any benefits. ;)
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash
Well I dont speedcube my self, I might solve a rubik in one week ;)
Anyway I dont think you get hardly any advantage from powerball.
But its useful in daily tasks in the house hold.
Ive been using my powerball for a couple of weeks.
And now when i go out with the dog I hardly feel the dog at the end of the line.
But first remember to train endurance.
And later more strength.
And now when i go out with the dog I hardly feel the dog at the end of the line.
I should check that you are actually taking the dog out with you and not just a lead. :p

I saw this guy who did it in 11 seconds or something at a competition (think it's the world record), and he just there going ultra fast and bangs it down at 11 seconds and everyone just stares in shock, especially the judge behind him and they start cheering. It's so fast I don't know how it's humanly possible
The current world record is actually 10.36 seconds set very recently at the Belgium open by a French man named Edouard Chambon. People are pretty crazy. My personal best is about 12 seconds, and It was an INSANE solve, i can't imagine anything less.

Is it true it can be solved in about 20 moves from any combination:confused:

I think the number's more like 40 moves, but I might be wrong.
Meaby he just had different color stickers :P
In theory, you can solve the cube from any state in less than 20 moves. However, this isn't the way speedcubers solve cubes. They use method, such as Fridrich. The average amount of moves to solve a cube with fridrich is around 56.
I feel like a complete idiot. I had a cube, long ago, could never solve the bloody thing. Now I here there are people solving it in seconds - with 50 moves ?? There must be some very specific skill to it.
Hi ^^
Sorry, i'm a bit late on this thread :o
Actually yes, i was a speedcuber a LONG time ago, something like 4 or 5years ago when i was 13. I was able to break the 25s' barrier, my best average was kinda 29s and my best score 18s (a perfect one :) )
I haven't touched a cube for more than 3years, but i assume i'm still capable to achieve ~35s ;)

I don't think many people simply learned how to solve the cube...I'm sure more found out the solutions and then just learned the moves. My girlfriend taught herself...she's the only person I know who can just do it. Takes her 20 or 30 minutes sometimes mind you.
Me, I've forgotten the moves. Can get a side a two rows down, then get the corners in the right places, but I can't remember the next combination of moves.
Did find some good sites though, teaching various ways to do it.
People solve Ribik's cubes in 11 seconds?! I used to have one as a kid and it never got solved.. I mixed it up on the first day i got it and the only way i could see myself solving it would be to peel the stickers off and put them all back on :p That's insane, can normal people really do this or is it some kind of supergenius thing?
Guys, you need to check this guy out. It is flipping amazing. And also proof that it can be done... even blindfolded!!!

One handed is pretty impressive too.

World Record and he still lost a second or so near the end where it got a bit stuck.

Wow that's insane. I only know one person that can even do it, and it takes him quite awhile.
Bit of an old thread i've dug up here, but i thought i'd add that after reading this, I decided that I'd get a cube and have a go, and i've got to say that anyone, and i mean ANYONE if they spend a day or 2 learning the algorithms can solve a cube comfortably in under 2 minutes, I've been neglecting my Powerball a bit of late because i've been cubing a little bit, and although I haven't learned the Fridrich method yet, I can still solve a cube in just over a minute comfortably, and with practice and faster turns i can get that down to probably about 45 seconds.
Oh and by the way, people are always VERY impressed when you can do a Rubiks cube in a minute.
Just to illustrate how easy it is to learn, i taught my girlfriend to solve a cube in about an hour.
Now she keeps sending me messages telling me how quickly she can do it!
Maybe I should get her a powerball as well............

I would. A Powerball is definitely a great gift! :)
Always Powerballing,

LOL - this takes me back.
Now i'm gonna have to show my age...
I used to clock sub 45s times in the early 80's when i was about 15. :p
Picked up a cube last year and can't remember how the hell i did it:confused:

Age is causing me problems too. Using the method I learned when I was a teen in the early 80s enables me to get two rows and then the corners, but I can't remember the next move. I learned it again only last year, but I've forgotten again!! :o
This is the one i use.

Is speedcubing like doing rubik's cubes really fast? PB would mean you'd never heart for endurance I guess meaning you wouldn't get distracted by tingling while linking your eyes and fingers nimbly.
