Hi All,
This is just a thread for me to keep you all posted on my daily hot-mode high scores for the day.
I will update this post as I can with daily scores as they come out below. I will start by listing my current record and try to keep it updated as daily high scores come along.
The scores here are only the high score for the day and may not be personal records. This way you can see how and when the scores change as we make our climb to 16K. Some days may be better than others, but I am hoping to witness an overall climb. Feel free to post your comments and questions. :)

Hi Duane...great idea.
I really enjoy reading and watching the progress of the records on the board. There sure has been a lot this past week or so. Watching you and the other talents get higher and higher scores, week after week, makes a guy feel like he can also do better.
As for the 16000, I have no doubt you'll make it. Hard work and dedication to something is one of your strengths and that makes for a winning combination. My goal for you is 16438, so if you could...:)

I think the biggest change we have seen in some of the highest records scored recently is that many have simply changed the patterns in their own beliefs in what they thought was possible now for them. Sometimes it is this belief that we can't accomplish it now that holds many of us back.
Hopefully we'll see many more pass over the 15k mark soon. :)

23-02-2007, 17:35
Hi Duane, where's your scores for 21st, 22nd?
Thanks for the question, Autolupus!
I figured somebody would ask before very long.
I have decided that my scores have been stagnant and lingering around just above 15k for too long since I passed 15k. I think much of this is a result of very hard Powerballing sessions that have not allowed my fingers to heal completely. Although my thumb and fingers are almost healed, you should have seen how atrocious my thumb looked when I got my current record of 15241. I was Powerballing so much that I had to change my grip so I would not touch the bad thumb, yet it resulted in the 15K+ score.
So, as I told Tim and others in some private messages, instead of continually getting a bunch of scores just above 15k and not beating my record, I am going to take about a week long rest to rejuvenate everything so I can actually start smashing my records again. I feel that seeing improvement is better than getting dozens of 15k scores that are not record-breakers right now.
The last time I took an extra long break like this, I came back fresh and I got a 16437 on my Powerball with a similar technique to what I am doing now. I have a been Powerballing hard since then to attain a similar score but with only half the success, and although I have increased my score by 1000 rpms in that month's time, I feel it is time for another good rest, because my scores have levelled off too much. Since I never got a video of that run I did to get 16437, I have had to resign somewhat to general concensus that it was a counter glitch, but I do know that the speed run sounded and felt quicker than even my highest current score now. But next time after I return back from the break, I will have the webcam recording so there is no mistake. ;)
Also important will be that I try to hold the Powerball at its peak speed for as long as I can so that the counter registers it. Interestingly on the 21st I had a speed run that sounded great. I thought for sure it was a record for me, but I looked at the counter and it was only reading 11900 or so. It almost make laugh because it was such a different score that I had been seeing that day. So I put the video through the Powerballalyzer, and I found that it was definitely a score just a tad above 15,500, but I saw that the peak was so steep and quick that it just didn't register anything decent on the counter.
I'll be aiming for at least this score when I come back from the rest. As you know, of course, trying to keep my hands off of these Powerballs is going to be the toughest and most grueling part of the rest, because these little spheres are utterly addicting. ;)
Anyway, thanks for the question. Stay tuned! :) :D

Great to hear you're finally taking a rest Duane. I think that this will really help improve your scores a lot.
That really sucks about your 15500 glitch. I get that A TON since my dual handed technique is very hard to sustain. So 11700-11900 is a very common reading for me.:p My best two videos are where the sound registers 13800-14000, but the score read much lower.

What's up lately? Any improvements?
Nothing is happening at my end (busted right hand thumb => Long rest) :(
But You have to try bringing some good stuff out of every bad situation,
that's why I've started working on my left hand ;)

I'm still taking a rest for a few more days. Hopefully some improvements sometime after I come back to it again.
I'll keep this thread posted with new 15K+ scores when I come back. We'll see what happens! ;)

I'll try to do some Powerballing tomorrow. I was very sore from doing massive yard work all day yesterday. All-day   - probably around 12 hrs in all. It just made me sore today, besides I was so busy at my regular job too, so not a single opportunity to do any Powerballing.
So tomorrow I'll get back into it and get some 15k+ scores. I hope. :)

whats yard work?
The yard work included raking and clearing away dead grass. I also had to cut, carry, and position a bunch of heavy 8ft long(?) railroad cross-ties that we are now using as borders for my wife's garden. I also turned the soil in all the area of the garden with a shovel. Also put up a wood fence in our backyard, cut down some medium-sized trees with only a hand-saw, and knock out a large tree stump with a sledgehammer. My wife wanted to start getting the garden ready for planting, so she had me outside all day doing nothing but heavy work.
Yet, all the sawing and heavy lifting will probably help with my Powerballing scores anyway. ;)

Hi All,
Had a decent day coming back into the swing of Powerballing after a bit of a rest. It was a little frustrating at first because I was getting these scores 14995, 14997, and 14998. But soon, when I was little more tired and ready, I started getting over 15K again. :)
Today's hot-mode scores were 15,098, 15105, and finally a 15150 as a high today. Not bad scores for coming back again, but I will have higher expectations from myself in the days to come.
I'll keep you all posted, of course. ;)

I had a decent session last night. Still no new records, but over the last week I had been experiencing some wrist pain so I was having trouble getting past 14700 for about a week.
I did some light Powerballing to try get rid of the pain, but it didn't seem to be helping. Then, I got the idea to apply some inward pressure on my hand going up to the wrist to see what happens, because I was getting idea I had a minor sprain or I had somehow pulled my wrist out of place. This goes back to when I was doing the yard work as I was using a sledgehammer to knock out a tree stump from the ground. I had some pretty heavy and sharp jolts to my wrist when I did it.
So when I applied a different kind pressure, going in the direction up from my closed fist toward my wrist, I felt a little "pop" from within my wrist. It was the kind of "pop" you get when you "pop" your finger knuckles. After I did this, the pain seemed to go away quickly, and I soon felt the strength coming back again.
Then I went to a Powerballing session. Got into a hot-mode within about 30 minutes and got some 15k+ scores:
15013, 15121, and 15138 rpm were my top scores for the day of 3/16/07. I felt pretty relieved that I was able to hit 15K again. I had a bunch of scores in the 14950-14999 range, but I just want to specifically mention the 15K+ scores here
I'm getting confident now that after I rest for the weekend from Powerballing, I should be able to see what happens on Monday again when I go for some records. Hopefully something good! ;)
Keep spinning everyone! :)

Hi All,
I was concentrating more on my left hand scores today, and I broke my old about 3 times. The first time, got a 14536. 2nd time I got a 14707, and finally I ended up with a 14804 as a new record for my left hand. :)
I did few Dual-Hand attempts too. I got a 27862 as a record today. This is my first submission to the Dual-Hand League. Strangely my left hand was quicker today than my right hand on my dual hand record, but as I get more coordinated with these attempts, it should get better. :)
That's it for today! ;)

Yes, I'm pretty sure I can get way better on the Dual-Hand run. My right hand was feeling rather weak today. That's why I was going for the left-hand more. I was satisfied enough with the attempts that I decided to end the session for the day and wait for tomorrow. I think my right hand might be more into it by then.
Now that left hand is getting better, I might even aim for 15k on the left hand too! ;)

The weather was slightly hot today in Powerballing. Had a decent hot-mode and got a high-score for today of 15187. My 15k+ scores today were 15018, 15060, 15114, and 15187.

Hi Duane,
I think you established yourself steady at this level and your are so close to your record. You will probably have a boost and give us some new records to read about shortly :)
I'm a little bit jealous of everyone that can go for full sessions trying to score new records.
I've been hold back now for 36 days in total with breaks for the live competitions (witch I regret today),
but really don't see the end of my right hand thumb problem right now :(

Hi All,
I had an overall decent session last night after work. I ended up hitting above the 15k mark a total of 10 times when I got warmed up. I had a lot of 14,900+ scores also, which I recorded but I deleted the videos like a fisherman throwing the little fish back into the water. I mainly keep the 15K+ scores. :) I also had one score of 15000 exactly. :) Never did that before! :D
The highest score of the evening for me was 15122 rpm.
The other nine 15K+ scores were 15015, 15118, 15035, 15117, 15092, 15066, 15094, 15000, 15014.
Not a record-breaking evening but I think I having an easier time getting into the 15K range a little more consistently. I may place some of these videos up on youtube in the next week for those interested.
I have some new Powerballs coming my way. So I am hopeful that I might get 15500 or so out of them. :D

Hi Pete,
Endurance runs are how I warm up. I usually do a few 90s run runs and a 30s run or two to get everything started. By then I am usually almost wornout and out of breath anyway, so I go into the speed mode. At that point my arms are already in their rythym and the 15k scores come a little easier.
I just haven't had any new records on the strength runs lately either, just a few 17500 or so scores. Close, though. Maybe I'll crack in 18000 in due time too! :D
It's somewhat expected. I ran into similar roadblocks in speed just after I hit 14k for the first time. I stayed in 14k-14.5 zone for several months, then I changed my technique slightly and BLAM! within days my current record came.
The same thing might happen with me as I linger in 15k-15.2k range. I might find that one little necessary change, and then BLAM! within days my scores might shoot beyond 15500, 15800, or even 16000! It's just another hurdle I'll have to conquer along the way.
I'm happy about Jez's new records, because sometimes my improvements come after his improvement. Like when he made an increase in January from 14627 to 14978 after being stuck in at 14627 since November, I made my improvement from 14459 to 15241 shortly after in a month's time. Then Jez made that final improvement to 15K the day after.
I expect that when I improve my scores, it won't be a small gradual improvement, it will likely be a sudden suprising leap above my previous scores. Nevertheless, that day of improvement is welcome.
According to the estimates earlier in this post, April 7th is day that I should have the "capability" of hitting 16k. This doesn't necessarily mean I will suddenly hit 16k on that very day, just that I should be capable after that point to make it happen. I know that when I said I should able able to hit 15K on or after Jan. 22, I ended up hitting it 15241 on that very day. I was lucky and glad I did so.
I expect this time around, since April 7 falls on a Saturday and I normally do no Powerballing on Saturday, a new record from me at least might be seen in the next week or soon after. I will probably take a few days off to make sure I am returning to the Powerball feeling good and eager to spin it. I will probably clean some of my Powerballs too so that they will also be ready for some new records too.
Then we'll see what happens! ;) It could be a fun week! :)

Duane Cash

I know l have said it before but l will make a guess that when you get new balls and you feel really good a new record is definitely on the cards, but you already know that and it is only a matter of time, my friend:)
Great set of 15K+ scores and l know how annoying it can be.

Once again, you have remarkable consistency.
Duane, do you ever have sessions where you don't try for records, and use all of your energy on high speed endurance only? Not so much trying for 30, 60, or 90s scores, but just running it in the first mode and doing 30-45 seconds on each hand.
Yeah,
Trying to get 1000's on it, thats one way i warm up, i stick around 1000-2000 on it then go for records, 1 pb is on 8747, another is on roughly 6000 because it was on 16000 but accidently cleared it.

At least 3 times a week, my wife and I go for a 30-minute around our son's school after we drop him off in the morning. I usually take my Powerball with me and run it at around 9000-12000 rpm for the full walk, switching from the right hand to the left hand as needed as they get tired. I don't worry about records or really pay attention to the numbers of revs when I do this because I have no way to record it even if I tried. ;)

Hi All!
I'm still waiting for my new Powerballs to arrive, but I decided give my others a spin and I had a good session today.
I set a new personal record of 15285 rpm. Yay! :D
I also scored above the 15K+ mark a total of 23 times. Here are the scores in the other they were made: 15010, 15043, 15062, 15205, 15025, 15285, 15150, 15179, 15145, 15055, 15131, 15085, 15034, 15183, 15063, 15041, 15054, 15104, 15065, 15107, 15164, 15166, 15052.
I decided to stop since I really would like to try for a record with my new Powerballs. My hands are still great condition. I had absolutely no blisters on my hands after the session, but I will still rest until the new Powerballs arrive. Then I will let loose on those new little spheres! :) ;)
The improvements today and the number of times I hit above 15k give me hope that I could be seeing some more improvement.

How long is your sessions usually, and how long you are resting between speed runs?
Hi Jarkko,
That session was in between 1 to 2 hrs. I had a few 30s runs to get warmed up. I did a 6547 on 30s, so I knew I was doing okay today. Then I went for the speed runs. Did a few to warm-up speed runs, and I was getting 14900+ right away - yet another sign that I was doing good today. After I started with the first 15K+ run, I would do them with hardly much break in between. Just long enough to reset the video recording and get the Powerballalyzer going again. I don't like to lose the rythym I build up.
I did take about 5 minutes rest somewhere in the middle of the session to shake things out a little and then I went right back into it again. I didn't have much time since I had to go back to work so I try to get in as many as I can. At least there was a record this time.
I am beginning to get this whole 15K+ thing down to somewhat of a "science." It does not take very long to warm-up and get into it really. I know what 15100-15200 sounds like when I get it in that "gear". It just need to learn how to get into the next "gear" and learn how to crank it up from there.
Hopefully I will get the new Powerballs going right away and get a new record with them too! :)
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash
Well done Duane I have a feeling your going to kill that once you've run the new balls in. Any 90's action yet?
Good luck Duane, anxiously awaiting your first 15500 score.

Thanks Enda!
I hope to make some good scores soon.
And I hope the improvements are both massive and impressive! ;)
I remember when I was scoring at 13700, trying to reach for my first 14k score. I never even really thought that 15K was ever going to be in reach. I knew that getting into the Top 100 would be great, and I was confident I could do at least that, but 15k, that was not even on my mind until I reached 14700.
Then, I started thinking "what if?" and I tried a little harder.
I know I should be able to reach 15.5K at least. There were 2 times in my last session where on the Powerballayser the score was right around 15600 or 15700 but for some reason the Powerball counter failed to register the score properly. The scores it registered were something like 11K or 12K or so which I knew was not right because when I am Powerballing I can almost estimate what score I hit by just hearing it. Perhaps I didn't hold it at the top speed long enough. That was frustrating, but still reassuring, because I know I can do it. :)
I just have to hit the 15.5k mark like I hit 15k, then I can concentrate on the 16k region. ;)

Hi All,
I had a great session today!
Once I got warmed up I started getting some good scores above 15k.
I got past the 15k mark no less than 46 times, and I reached beyond the 15,500 mark a total of 7 times.
I ended up with a new record of 15650 rpm.
Here are the scores that I made in ascending order:
15002, 15005, 15020, 15027, 15040, 15050, 15056, 15095, 15107, 15111, 15113, 15119, 15131, 15155, 15175, 15178, 15182, 15183, 15210, 15213, 15215, 15235, 15243, 15252, 15257, 15267, 15268, 15275, 15283, 15292, 15293, 15295, 15302, 15305, 15317, 15323, 15325, 15337, 15346, 15572, 15603, 15612, 15614, 15631, 15645, 15650
I bolded the scores above 15500 that I considered in the "Magic Gear". I have all the videos available for these scores, and I will post them to youtube at a later date.
When I post them, feel free to run them through the Powerballalyzer. You will find on some of the sub-15500 scores that I really reached above 15500 but again the counter didn't register the full score potential for some reason or another.
I also have another video somewhere here where the Powerballalyzer shows a score of 15800+ but the counter only registered 14800 or so. I will be looking at that video later to study it a little more.
Anyway, I am thrilled with my scores so far. I will probably take a nice rest to let my fingers get back in shape again before going further upward.
Now that I know where to find the "magic gear", it will be easier.
Before I made the 15650 score, I was pretty satisfied and I almost quit, but I was having a lot of fun with the "magic" despite the pains developing in my fingers.
Thanks Jez, for the confidence building, and thanks everyone for your words of assurance too! I think much of that made a difference.
Now I am at only T-minus 787 until I reach my goal of 16437. That's not a whole lot really. ;)
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

It was actually combination of many things. After watching Jez's video closely, I realized that there is another acceleration phase after the score sort of plateaus at 15k or so in the "fun gear" (15k-15.2K). You have to urge it into the "magic gear".
I also changed the position and angle of my arm a little to allow me to throw more force into the acceleration. It's a little tough to explain really, but I think I will know what to do from here on out.
I also had to get the sound of 15500+ in my head so I would know if I needed to keep accelerating or not. A little visualization. It works. :)
Thanks, Linus!
Have a good sleep! ;)

I'll start uploading the videos shortly to youtube, starting with the highest and going downward. There 46 videos above 15k, and a few of them, when run through the Powerballalyzer, would have been 15,500+ but didn't register that high for one reason or another.
It'll take a little longer for me to relocate the video that was showing definitely above 15,800 on the Powerballalyzer, but I believe it only registered at around 14800 or 14900 on the counter. :( I think it had a real strong 15800 sound signature too. It really surprised me when I saw the low score on the counter, because I could here from the sound that it was good. I had the Powerballalyzer running at the time I did it, but the score certainly didn't match.

Hi Pete,
I think by quoting myself from a post I made earlier in this same thread I can mostly answer your question:
I have learned from the 14k range that this is how my improvements come along. Linger, then blam, linger then blam.
This being the case, hitting 16k is going to be much like me hitting 15k for the first time. I have an idea that if I can hit 15600 or so, all I have to do is push a little bit harder and really believe that I can do it. From there, it won't be long.
Before I got this record, I almost quit the session at 15645 and 15631. Both scores were satisfying enough. My fingers were beginning to hurt, blisters were beginning to form, and the wrist was a little painful. But I was really confident that if I could just get a really good run going, I would be able to go further. When I got the 15650, then I felt fairly pleased. I know that with a good amount of rest, I will heal all wounds and go at it next time with a vengeance.
Based on what I have seen from myself before, I know what is next for my scores. ;)
Thanks, Pete!

Duane Cash

That was great! I'll try to behave. ;)
By way the way, I warmed up a little with the Powerball yesterday. I got into a decent fun gear with scores of 15063, 15065, 15228, 15449. Then got into a got in to a nice magic gear with a 15623. I didn't want to push it too hard until I'm ready to really break a record. Almost did anyways. I'm letting the blister and the wrist pain recover from before Monday's records after I had broken in my Metal some last week. The wrist pain that I still had on Monday, had not completely gone away, but it is getting better. When I was doing the Metal last week, it gave me a blister in middle finger and some wrist pain - tendonitis? So even though my wrist was not completely well, it was well enough to give me my current record.
I rested until Thursday, and just wanted to give a small go again, not really to break any records yet, but just to make sure I could still hit 15500+. So after I hit above the mark, I quit for the day.
Today my wrist is getting better, but there will not be any Powerballing for several days until I am ready for breaking records. I expect everything to be okay Monday or Tuesday, and then I'll give it a good session.
Yes, I'll be one year older, but miracles can still happen. :D

Nice new Dual-Hand score Duane...29k is very close! Awaiting the video. :)
Thanks, Tim!
I just sent the video. I decided to do another session and although I was only getting 15299 as a high speed score so far, I decided to do a Dual Hand attempt because 2 of Powerballs felt fairly balanced. At least I got them both above 14k and fairly even.
To be honest, I am still struggling from some wrist/thumb pain. My thumb clicks somewhat or something. I think it may be a bit tendonitis, so I have to be careful and give it plenty of rest. Even with that I was able to get my current record 15650.
I am just impatient for the pain to go away so I can get on to the 16k. I'm sure I should be able to get to 16k easily if the pain was not there.
Also, my Metal Powerball is coming back up to speed again. I hope to have something new in this league soon too. :)

Nice dualie score Duane, looking forward to seeing the vid of that one.
I was only just thinking how cool it was to be sitting just behind you at the top end of the dual run scoreboard......
I'll have to do some more work myself now, 28k dualies is not too far away from me.....

...although I was only getting 15299 as a high speed score so far, I decided to do a Dual Hand attempt...
I'll ignore the "only 15299" comment! ;) Like with most things, being on form in one category doesn't always mean the same in others. When I beat my left and right hand speed records, (by 42 and 41 revs respecitively), the other week, I assumed I'd beat my Dual-Hand record...but I didn't get anywhere near. And my Dual-Hand record at the moment is nowhere near my maximum potential, like it was when I first posted a score to the leaderboard.
There are One-hand Hot-Modes, Endurance Hot-Modes and Dualies Hot-Modes. :)
I......here are One-hand Hot-Modes, Endurance Hot-Modes and Dualies Hot-Modes. :)
S'right. And, apparently, multiple hot-modes only happen during a syzygy of the planets (google it if you don't know :p).
;):D
That was expected. You just beat me for about 200 rpm. But still, that's not enough, get at least 29k :D.
I haven't try dual run since my record, but maybe I will in the next live comp.
Let me beat your score first Jarkko, before you go and beat Duane's score. ;):D

I saw you sitting there right behind me, so I decided to bump my score up a notch so I could put a little more distance between our scores, get it over Jarkko and closer to Jeremy.
I don't do Dual Hand very often because I'm not the biggest fan of that league. I also didn't push it very much either in that session because of the pain in my thumb and wrist, yet it was still good enough for a new record for me.
I felt that I could do way better than this if I concentrated a session on the Dual runs more. I just don't do it very often or practice it really. I'm sure I've only attempted Dual records about a handful of times since I started Powerballing.
But this new record is good enough now until my next record. ;) :)

Hi All,
I had a small session today. I had a few 15K+ scores with the highest being 15337. Not bad with the tendonitis giving me pains still.
I also did a 30s run and got 6596 (just 2 revs short of my record).
I am going to be resting from speed attempts for a while, but I may do some Metal score attempts here and there this month. I may still do some endurance too.
I am going to be using my Powerballs this month more on a therapeutic level to get rid of the tendonitis for good. Once I am ready, I see no reason why 16k will not be possible. Even amidst the pain, I still got a 15337 today and I had a 15650 while I had the pain.
Once the pain is gone, I know that all my current records should fall.
New goal for 16k will be May 31st.
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash
Duane ya bugger. I just looked at the Dual board hoping to see my name in yellow on two boards and you went and nuffed it. Well done on the dualies great score. Still waiting for some 90's action though:):)

Yes, I will do some 90s records soon to get better positions. It's been awhile since I have logged one. Same with the Metal scores. ;)
My webcam is just a logitech quickcam zoom. It does not have many settings that I can adjust to make it better. I wish it did, and I may have to invest in a better webcam soon. I also usually run my videos through microsoft movie maker to convert them to wmv, so perhaps there's a difference in when I save them. I'm not totally sure on that one.
Thanks again, LTLFTC!

in my experience Logitech cameras have quite a few hidden settings and features. My one is a fairly old Quickcam but the Setpoint driver software gives me a fairly good amount of control. I've found that the best way to get a relatively high framerate in low light conditions is to turn off the Low light boost and if your camera has this feature, to set the exposure control to manual. This way you can tweak the exposure much more accurately to your needs. Plus putting a lamp close to the camera to illuminate the counters when you are showing the scores can really help.
But if your cam has none of these features maybe a new one would be a better option. We really need to see that 16k record in a crystal clear "Akis quality" video ;)
My thumb is F*cked right now aswell so I share your pain. Good luck with your healing. :p

Hi All!
I had a good session tonight. I didn't have any new 250Hz records, just a bunch of 15100-15300 scores, but that was not my main focus tonight. Tonight was a Metal night. I haven't really put a lot of emphasis on the Metal until this week. My old record is 6 months old. A new record was long overdue, and I managed to log a nice high score for this evening.
13231 rpm! :D
The Metal is definitely a Beast! It gave me some blisters but once they heal I will be ready for more! :)
I also managed to get some other 13K+ scores on the Metal including 13118, 13,194 which were good, and about a handful of other 13,050 to 13,100 scores. All of my 13K+ scores were above my last record of 13025. It seemed like it didn't take long at all to warm up and start hitting the Metal records.
The Metal is awesome! :)
Keep 'em spinning everyone!

Well done the D-Train. That makes you 3rd or 4th in all the leagues except 90's come on baby:D:D

Hi All!
I had a very quick 15 minute session today. The very first score on the Metal in a cold mode was about 12,300 or so, then with a few more attempts I got it above 13,000.
A new record came out of this short session: 13,240 rpm! :D
I also had a handful of other 13,100+ scores too.
I just wanted get in another short session before I leave on my trip for about 2 weeks. I will be going out of state, and I am still debating whether any Powerballs at all will be going with me. I would rather get my hands completely free of any little blisters and such that I received form previous Metal sessions.
I know I have lot more to put into a good Metal record. I was holding back a little on this run, trying to keep the blisters from worsening anymore. I just wanted to see if I could at least match my previous scores easily now.
Once I return from my trip, I will unleash upon this Metal Beast, and after that, I will go after the 250Hz full speed ahead! :)
Keep spinning and breaking records everyone!

Hi All!
I had a good session today. It seems like it's been a little while since I logged a score above 15,500.
Today's high was 15,583 rpm. I happy with that.
Other notable scores today were 15402, 15205, 15209, and 15281.
Overall I was satisfied with the session. I'm doing something little different in my warm-up routine, and it seems to be paying off again. Hopefully, it's a good sign of great scores to come, assuming my Powerballs are in good shape (some aren't) and if I do everything else right. :)
Keep spinning everyone! :D

Hi All!
New record for the Metal: 13296 rpm! :)
It was a little too soon to really shoot for the higher scores. This last session messed up an old blister that was on the way to healing. I'll have to wait until my thumb is completely free of anything before I go for the higher scores.
I am setting a goal for hitting 14k on the Metal. I should be able to be a 14ker on July 16th, 2007. This is goal date is more to help me overcome any mental barriers I might have about reaching that high. I have to first believe that I can do it, so the first step is to get my mind accustomed to idea of already being at that level on the goal date. With a good amount of prayer, preparation, and motivation, I should be able to get it done.
I realized I did the same kind of goal setting in early Jan 2007 for the 250Hz so I could get to 15k. I set the date of January 22 to get to 15k, and by the time the date rolled around, I was already mentally convinced that I would do so, and I hit a 15,241 that day.
This is my plan now for the Metal. Set the goal. Mentally prepare for meeting the goal on the deadline, and hit the goal.
My new record is a good start for getting in range.
Once the fingers are clean of blisters, I will go for it again.
Keep spinning everyone! There's been a lot of great improvements by everyone in all areas of Powerballing!

I your dreams maybe :D. Don't you think that's a little too soon? Maybe end of the year, if ever. Well, you can just prove me a wrong ;).
I remember when I made the goal for being the next to hit 15k back in January, if you recall, there was at least 9 other Powerballers who were on the speculation list to be the 5th person to 15k. This list even included you, Jarkko. I was probably the 10th choice in line on the list. However, I already knew back then that I would be the next one because I had already broken down the mental barriers that were holding some of the other back, and I found the technique that would do it.
I will do the same for the Metal. I have a mental idea of what the sound should be at 14k. I feel that the many of the mental barriers have been broken down already. The main thing for me is to get my thumb clear of any skin damage, then I should be able to give it everything I got without holding back. I am finding that I am being overly-cautious when I do a Metal run, being all too aware of the thumb blister as I am accelerating, that I tend to hold it back more than I should. Once I eliminate the blister or any skin tenderness, I should not have any worries.
Jarkko, when are you going to be hitting 15k on the 250Hz? I know you have the technique for it, and the speed is right there are ready. Come on, be the 12th to 15k. You can do it, my friend! :) Thomas, Blaise, and Tim are ready to hit any day now. You should give them some competition. ;)

Hey Duane
I really appreciate your aspirations to hit 14K metal. The inhuman act of getting the ball that fast is nearly unachievable (even Akis is incapable) so if you make this by the end of July or whatever it will be a very acknowledgeable feat! :D
I personally have doubts that you will make it to 14K in July. But I do not have doubts you can challenge Akis by July. I really hope the former is the case here and you make that metal scream!!
Good Luck Duane
Jarkko, when are you going to be hitting 15k on the 250Hz? I know you have the technique for it, and the speed is right there are ready. Come on, be the 12th to 15k. You can do it, my friend! :) Thomas, Blaise, and Tim are ready to hit any day now. You should give them some competition. ;)
My plan is to get it this summer, let's say before September 1, before I'm 22. No need to rush.
I have been at 14.1k-14.2k lately and felt kind of loose, but yesterday at live competition was little promising. I was doing lots of 14k-14.2k scores and then after 90s ed tech run I did 14401 and 14431. Maybe I should do 90s ed tech runs more often (and beat leg51). ;)
I also have been doing some reverse spinning, that might help too. It really affects to different muscles, I can feel the pump again. Current scores are R/L 12429/12579 and metal 10849/10565. Records are little better, but my technique is a bit lost for that direction.

Hi All!
I had a session yesterday, and I had a 15242 as the high. I had some other 15k+ scores during the session too, but some of my Powerballs either need news rotor or new shells. Still, I was glad to at least get 15242 because I had not picked up the Powerballs for about a week or so.
I had a 13256 on the Metal so that was good too. July 16 is coming soon, so I will have to get everything in order by then. :)
Looks like some people are putting some efforts in to Soundball high scores lately too. I'll have to give it a go on one my next sessions.
I have also enjoyed watching several people finally finding their way to 15k. Before I hit 15k in January of this year, there were only 4 people above that mark. Now, in just under 6 months, the number of people above 15k has grown to 13. I expect this number to grow substantially still before the year is over, but I express great congratulations to all those who have strived to push themselves a little harder to reach this elite barrier. 15k is still a monumental score to achieve for any Powerballer.

At such levels even 1 rpm improvement is a win and certainly most welcome. You actually need just a small "shift of gear" to crack into the 15.7k zone and then step on it straightforward towards 16k.

Thanks for the kind words, Akis! Also thanks to LTLFTC, One-Eye, redplunger, Installed...(and of course Adrena1in too from another forum)! I appreciate the compliments! :)
Akis - I know what you mean about the "shift of gear". I named it the "Miracle gear" in the past. Of course, I was thinking it began around 15800 or so, but you are the expert and know about that the range of 15.7k+ more than I do right now.
I had a few attempts last night that felt as if they were about to finally break into that 15.7k range, and they certainly had the right slope on the Powerballalyzer, but before the peak of the run I somehow would lose the optimum rythym with the Powerball at it would just drop-off suddenly.
It's exactly the same thing that I remember happening before I was able to get a handle on the right technique to get to 13k when I was just beginning into Powerballing. I just have to get totally focused on the exact pulse of the spin so I can control it better at 15.7k and be able to make the acceleration to 16k. I know I am close. Strangely, I think the 16k for me is more of a matter of maximizing my technique and less of a mental barrier than breaking 15k.
These days I only mention scores of 15200 and above if there is another fairly good score to talk about that is above that (like 15,500 or so).
I hit a lot of 15,000 to 15,199 in my warm-up phase that are almost not worth mentioning, but I do keep many of the videos for these as well. That's why I say a 'host of other 15k+ scores'. I just feel better about a run when it is above 15,200 or so.
In that session, the cold-mode score (the very first speed attempt) was around 14960, so I figured I might be due for a record when I got into a hot-mode.
Thanks again guys! I am going to work on some more scores for you to read about soon.

Hi All!
I had a Powerball session tonight. It was the first session I had for this month. Finally! Seems like it's been so busy with me at work and other things going on around here.
Anyway, my high score for this evening's session was 15,359. I had 31 15k+ scores in all. Some of the other notable scores for this evening were: 15218, 15208, 15306, 15297, and 15221.
I decided to stop about an hour-and-a-half into the session so I could let the fingers rest to have another good session later this month.
I also had one 15000 score exactly in the beginning of the session. I'm sure Blaise Arnaud would have wanted that one instead of the 14999 he has now. ;)
Keep spinning all! Till next time!

Holy crap, you went over 15k 31 times?!!
That doesn't suprise me really. What I want to know Duane, is do you just do speed run after speed run? I've got into almost rut-like states before, where I do lots of speed runs and they're all about the same...say 14.3k to 14.6k. (I think I could do 40 or 50 consecutive runs like this.) But if I mix it up a bit, such as doing a few Metal runs, or a Metal one-hand 30s, or perhaps a plastic one-hand 90s - just something different - when I go back to plastic speed a few minutes later, chances are I'll pull out a different score. Could be 14.7k+, could be 14k, but at least it breaks me out of the rut.
I know you're a hardened Powerballer and this probably isn't news to you, but I'd just be interested to hear your views on this... Do you persist with one thing until you can't go further, or do you add variety?

Hi Tim,
When I am going for speed records, I tend to do mostly speed-run after speed-run in rapid succession. It's tiring, but it works. I usually start of with an initial cold speed run. Lately my initial cold-mode speed runs have been around 14800 or 14900. I've even had session where the cold-mode initial run came in just over 15000. I think all this just takes practice and knowing your technique well. It will depend upon your current level and what you know of your technique. For me I know exactly what it takes to hit 15k.
Hitting a higher 15k, like 15500 or above, is where it is much tougher.
After my initial cold-mode attempt, I usually choose from a number of warm-up methods. Sometimes I do a few 30s runs to get the whole body going. Sometimes I'll do a 90s run. Other times I will pick up my 25lb dumbbells and do very rapid and hard reps with them, almost as if they were 25lb Powerballs to get quickly warmed-up. And sometimes I will do some Metal speed runs to warm up for some Plastic speed runs. I usually mix it up a bit and it doesn't really take that long to warm up.
When I feel I am warmed-up, I then go for the speed runs. I usually go all out on the speed runs. I rest only long enough really to reset the webcam and the Powerballalyzer (I like to see where my speed went immediately in real-time.) I had one run in the last session that for the first time touch 16k on the sound analyzer, but showed only 15200+ on the counter because of the steep slope and quick peak for the attempt. I didn't hold it long enough to register higher, and I was a little surprised by the rapid acceleration of that run. Perhaps, I'll figure out what I did, but I know that run was heading straight for 16k. I was a bit off with the timing of my acceleration. Maybe next time.
Anyway, I do speed runs with not too many break in between for a few reasons. One reason is that during my session I can somewhat tell by watching my scores that I am getting into a hot-mode. Another reason is that I do not want to lose the momemtum I have built up. If there is too long of an interruption, then the speeds drop off rapidly. At that point, it is better just to stop until next time.
While I do my speed runs, if I feel I am not seeing improvements at times, I like to throw in a few Metal speed runs. Sometimes I break my Metal record because I am fresh out of a Plastic (250Hz Pro) run, and my arm might treat the Metal the same way and give it quicker pulses of the arm. If I break a record, then it's great. If I don't I go back to the Plastic. Sometimes, after coming out of a few Metal runs, I will get new records on the Plastic because after the Metal runs, the Plastics becomes way easier.
So, in all, I do mix it up a bit. My Powerball session lasts about 2 hours. After 2 hours, even my Plastic speeds start dropping off a bit and my fingers start to tire. But one of the most important things I have done lately is to allow a proper amount of rest in between the days of some of these sessions to keep my fingers primed to take the Powerball to the limits..
I feel that the amount of 15k+ scores I get in one session is fairly standard (for me, of course). I usually start getting 15k after only a few speed runs. My session will have a few peaks where I might hit 15300+ or even 15500+ depending upon how I feel. I knew that I hit 15k 31 times in the last session only because I felt like saving all the 15k+ scores in the webcam software for that session. There were past sessions that I only saved the video if it was a record or was a very good score, otherwise I would have deleted it immediately. Back in April I had a session where I hit 15k+ a total of 57 times, and I placed many of them onto youtube.
There is much to say about the technique of getting 15k, but this post is getting quite long already. So I will leave that for later. Perhaps if I myself reach 16k, then I will write a book or sorts to coach other Powerballers on how to reach the 15k level (if they are willing to change, course).
Tim, I'm sure you are quite ready to hit 15k at any moment. I imagine that you will do something just a little different in one of your future sessions that will help you break past the barrier. One of the most important things you can do, despite all other things, is to really believe that you can hit 15k. When you believe and know you can accomplish this thing, then it is done.
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

Thanks for sharing the information about your training sessions, Duane! It was interesting to read! I'm trying to find out myself what the best way is to improve at speed.Recently I have done speed sessions where I do speed run after speed run with maybe 60 s rest between and it has helped me to improve my LH technique a lot. I've not been using the powerball very much during the summer but now I'm training again to try to reach 16k.

I am setting a goal for hitting 14k on the Metal. I should be able to be a 14ker on July 16th, 2007. I have to first believe that I can do it.
When you believe and know you can accomplish this thing, then it is done
Hello Duane
Thanks for posting the details in of your session, it's really interesting to see how someone of only a few 15kers goes about in his session.
I'm just like to say that your 14K metal is a tad overdue. If you quote that you can believe in it then can we see a 14K metal in your next session? If you really put your mind to it then maybe 14K metal will be achievable as you say if you believe then things happen. So let see it! :D
Pete.
Quite true Peter, i was just about to ask the same thing...
As you quoted Duane
"When you believe and know you can accomplish this thing, then it is done"
And you did say a Dedicated date which MUST mean you believe and most likely know you can accomplish it...as you said you have broken down all the mental barriers.... So why is it slightly overdue ? Maybe set a slightly lower target first? 13.5k i believe is within your reach, and you could grasp this anyday soon.
Even the mightly Akis himself has not broke the 14k metal barrier...Take it a step at a time
GILPI :)

I've got a really big boot if you want to sink it in a little further fella's
A wise man once said it is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.
Another on said the only difference between dreamers and achievers is that achievers have a goal and a burning desire to achieve it.
Rock on Duane:D:D
i believe duane is the man to get that 14k metal, but from less than 13.5 straight to 14k ?? you must think surely to overcome such a huge achievement take it one step at a time, i know that ill never probably hit 13 or 14k metal, but it would be nice to see someone get it and prove its possible... the only way is up!
GILPI :)
Bite off more than you can chew and chew like hell:D:D
are you trying to be cocky ? cuz its not entirely pleasant, all i was trying to find out is when will duane hit his target of 14k as his expectation has past and i would like to see this 14k metal carried out, unless you can do it ?
GILPI :)

Absolutely and I'm sure Duane has benchmarks he is trying to reach on the way

I assume cocky means the same thing here as over there. No I'm not. All i'm saying is there is nothing wrong with aiming for the stars. If life was as simple as stating a goal and a date I'd be doing a 20k gripper 90's by now. Just cause Duane's got the brass to verbalize his goals and set a date doesn't mean he should be shot down in flames for not reaching it. I too want to see the 14k. As for me getting it?In my dreams (and that's the point).

Hi All,
It looks like I was beat up a little in the last few hours.
Yes, some of my goals are set high, and there is some reason for it. So that I can reach some important midway points without making them into a goal of their own.
When I was at 14k, I made a goal of 15k for myself. Of course, I remember that some Powerballers told me on the forum that they didn't feel I could reach that kind of mark, especially if only 4 others had done it in the past and since I had only been Powerballing for about 2 months. Some said that they had been Powerballing for years, and they felt that I was reaching too high at the time. Yet, now with my record of 15654, those who said these things are still around the same level as they were back then. I just continue onward.
Nonetheless, I keep pushing the bar higher for myself. Sometimes I miss some of my target dates, but the goals remain, and I continue to make improvements in certain areas that will help later on. Eventually I will hit the goals, but I consider my improvements thus far to be good. And I have been Powerballing for less than a year. I expect that as I grow with experience, things will get better.
When I speak of breaking barriers if only you believe you can do it, I speak mainly about the 15k barrier because this is the barrier I have come to know quite well. 16k on the plastic and 14k on the Metal, however, are altogether something different where practice, technique, persistence and belief seem to not quite be enough. I haven't yet figured what is missing.
All the 15kers have these things (practice, technique, persistence, and believe) but only one - Akis - has found the way past the 16k barrier so far. For now, I can only set the goal for myself, much like Jez and Bjorn have.
But as for hitting 15k, I feel that since the time when Jez, Pako, and I have hit the 15k mark earlier this year, a number of others have come to realize that what held them back from hit their 15k was mostly a matter of belief too. And now there are 14 Powerballers total who have broken this barrier to date.
I still feel that there are at least 8 others that are sitting at 14700 and above that can hit 15k at anytime time if they change their inner belief about hitting the mark. I simply have a hope that those others will hit the mark sooner or later, and I try to show just how easy it can be once they do. I offer encouragement to them who are trying for this mark, but that is all I can do. They have to find that treasure within by themselves.
The things that we all have in common are that we all like to Powerball and we all want to improve. I feel that when we encourage each other, we give strength to one another. This is why being part of this Powerballing community is such a great thing. I enjoy this sport, for all its people, for all its passion, and for all its history, even now as it unfolds. The best part of all is that we can each be a part of it as we take it into the future.
Great thanks to the RPM Sports for all they do to make Powerballing such a great sport!
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

It certainly is important to have that belief, and at the moment I'm not 100% convinced I can hit 15k, (mainly because I've hit yet another of those plateaus). However, ages ago I believed I could hit 13k with the Metal, even though less people have done that than the number who have hit 15k Plastic. I believe I can do 13.5k Metal, and perhaps more, more than I believe I can do 15k Plastic.
For this reason I have little doubt that people like Duane, Jez, Jonathan Cazes, Pako, and of course Akis, can achieve 14k with the Metal.
Go on Duane, do it for america!

Lets not get all serious about this guys. I was just querying Duane's goals, why he should set them so high..is this some sort of crime.

And heres my answer. Thank you Duane, I find these in depth posts of your quite interesting to read (like mini powerball essays :p). Sorry if I addressed my question in the wrong manner. :)

Real interesting reading Duane, thanks for posting all that.
I'm an agreement with GILPI and Pete in that some of your goals (i.e. 14k metal) seem to be a little outrageous. But I completely understand your reasoning, and I admire your determination... we can all definitely learn a lot from you. You're on the right track to 16k; like GILPI said, do it for America!! :D
Glad to see another agreeing with what Peter and I both think. See that we didnt intend to degrade Duane in the slightest, just to get Duane to reach easier, more believeable targets.. Just LTL thats doesnt seem to agree....
Go on Duane !!! (just dont go ahead of JEZ, w00p england :p )
GILPI :)
I think its fine to set a goal of 14k metal, because it is physically possible, so with enough time and training you will get there eventually.

Hi All!
Had a session this evening. No new records but I was still doing okay.
I had a top score of 15317 rpm.
The other score (in order) were:
15123, 15214, 15030, 15068, 15136, 15105, 15116, 15025, 15040, 15127, 15151, 15111, 15127, 15083, 15197, 15317, 15116, 15104, 15101, 15002, 15002, 15226, 15016, 15029, 15216, 15015
Funny thing is that I had double scores of 15127, 15116, and 15002. The two 15002 scores were one after another on two different Powerballs. :)
Til next time - Keep spinning all!
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

Sounds like an average session really there Duane, but it's always good to know those scores come relatively easily. 15.3k = relatively easy...wow, wish I could say that about myself! :D

Not to worry, Tim. You'll be at 15k+ very soon, of course. Just keep training.
Yes, 15.3k = relatively easy. These are just once-a-week sessions to maintain the 15k scores. I used to train almost everyday except the weekend.
Just wait till I start really training! ;) :)
 --Not a bad idea, really... :)
Always Powerballing,

LOL, I hope that some day I can said that... 15.3= relatively easy :p :D
Congrats for your nice session ;)
Very nice session Duane:D Keep going like this and soon a score much closer (or over;)) 16K will arpear on your counter;) :D

How's it been going Duane?
Been 2 months seen we heard from you.
Are you still scoring around the 15.3K mark or maybe better?

Hi Tstering,
I know it's been awhile since I have been posting scores from my sessions and such. With the holidays, a busy work schedule and college, I have been finding some difficulty fitting in a really good amount of time to have a really good session.
In my last session just before Christmas, I had a 15617 as a top score along with some 15300 to 15500 scores, but I had been so busy with the holiday havoc that I didn't get a chance to post or submit anything for December even for the gyrotek site which I normally do. I am hoping that I will be able to get back into the swing of things as we go into 2008, and that I might see a few new records for myself.
I have been able to read a lot of the posts and check out some of the action at Telford during some of my breaks. I wish I was able to make to the event. It sounded like it was a great success. Anyway, I will do my best to make it to the next event. Hopefully there will be one in the USA sometime.
Anyway, I hope to post some more good news and some good scores very soon! :)
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash

Cool. Good to know you are still getting close to your record. Hopefully you can break it again soon.
Nice to hear about you Duane, I think that you will break your record soon, just be patient... :)
Yes, agree with xaverr.:) Abit more practise to get into your powerballing routine and you'll get a new score;) :)

Hi All!
Wow, it seems like it has been awhile since I had a chance to do a session. Just so busy lately.
Anyway, I had a high score of 15357 for this session.
For what it is worth, here's the other scores in this session:
15018, 15050, 15107, 15153, 15014, 15171, 15172, 15119, 15024, 15349, 15311, 15015, 15077, 15357, 15136, 15208, 15200, 15070, 15110, 15111
Had a few 15300+ scores. That's good enough for today considering it's actually been too many weeks away from the Powerball. Looks like I can still hit the 15k.
Next time, I'll do better.
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash
Great there Duane!:DBet next session will be much better;) Wish you a new record soon;) :)

And how!! ;)
Nice to see you still have it, but I would expect you to always be hitting at least 15.3k really. Your next Hot Mode will arrive soon I'm sure, and you'll blast up into third place. :D
Next time, I'll do better.
Always Powerballing,

That's good because just between you and me your letting the team down:p:p
