I got my little gizmo the other day and loved it :o) however I have a bad pain from grasping the ball (base of finger)
Are there any holding techniques to avoid this? 1st day best score 10932 :o?

Looks to me like you're trying to do too much to quickly!

Look at the post about how long should I use it... that should give you an indication.

Always start off slowly and build up usage and speed over time!

At the beginning I did the same thing, Used it too quickly and my finger muscles really hurt. I guess this is because I had never used these muscles before. So what I did was to hold the powerball upside down, the opposite to what it is in the picture. However, you need to be sure that you don't hold it too tight like that or you'll burn yourself.

Getting the same hand pains and bruising from holding the PowerBall at higher speeds. No where near the records yet but every day improving. One thing that helps is when your wife beats your score and then burns her arm losing control of the PowerBall. Incentive to take it easy perhaps...?

Sam is quite correct in that the use of Powerball, while fun and highly addictive, is catagorised as a form of vigorous exercise and should therefore be approached with the same caution [at the beginning] as you would any form of physical activity.

In the case of Powerball, it is even more important to be cautious because of the nature of the exercise involved while spinning the little sphere. It may look simple, but put a live powerball into your hand - spin it fast and you'll be using a lot of muscles that you just won't have exercised before - regardless of your current state of fitness.

Bear in mind therefore, that it is just a matter of starting slowly until your body adjusts to the complex physical movements required to build and sustain that rotor speed - bear in mind also that I, for example, sit at my desk for virtually 8 hours daily, 6 days each week, would not catagorise myself as being in any way 'fit' yet can attend an exhibiton with Powerball, which would last, for example, 4 days / 9 hours each day - and will happily spin the little sphere, at speeds in excess of 13k for anything up to 2-3 hours solid over those 9 hours without any form of ache, pain, blister or discomfort...it's all about getting those arms, wrists and hands fit gentlemen!

So get spinning dudes!

I've got a friction burn on my pinky from it rubbing the edge of the rubber band :(

I've only had mine for a couple of days now, and may have the same problem. It seems fairly common. "John" refers to this on another question "Better Technique". I don't think it's from using it too much. The timer just digs uncomfortably into my hand at the knuckles at the base of my thumb and index finger.

If I turn the ball so that the timer is more towards my palm where it is comfortable, then my fingers touch the rotor.

It seems to me like it might be a combination of too small a ball, and a timer which sticks out a little bit too far.

i have a bit of the same problem as GK here with the rubber grip... it tore a small square of skin of my pinky... so now im wearing a band aid to protect it..
Iit's like the rubber band is a but too thick at the buttom.

otherwise a very enjoyable product.

today I just got my device and can say it can hurt quite a bit if you over exert yourself, but I can tell even at this early stage that all it needs is practice and to learn "the rythm".

Had mine for about ten days now. First 3 days had pains in hand muscles, couldn't hold it enough to work the other groups to start with. But after a few more days I can do an hour swapping hand to hand in turns of 2-5mins altering grips. I don't get soreness next day now. Still on a naff score though. Started at 7600 on day 1 and hit 9500 or so that night, got stuck on 10,544 for a week and today finally 11115 :-). I can use the heavier swords in my collectio n now, so um thanks RPM LOL..

Well I can't get it any faster right now. But I do it for nearly an hour most days now. I'm 19st I found out the other day, which surprised me as my chinup count has jumped. A lot.
Before powerball, 15 in a set was my very best. A week later, 24 in a set, now 36. :-). Nice progress.

i had the problem with sore hand muscles at first, especially at the base of the thumb, but found that after a couple of sessions, this soreness would be less and less until it was totally gone. just keep spinning
