View Full Version : DOs and DON'Ts
I though we should compile a list of DOs and DON'Ts where people can post things they know shouldn't be done (DON'Ts), and also a place people can place tips about the Powerball (DOs).
I'll start it off with this: (which has been mentioned before in these forums)
DON'T put any type of oil or other lubricant inside the powerball.
Devin Jones
DON'T smoke your powerball :-)
Thom
Chewing, licking or gargling your Powerball will NOT improve your breath.

Don't start it off on a carpet - it will melt the plastic and put a lot of dust in it

Don't lubricate it! Trust me. I've not got to figure out how to remove the silicone lubricant that I put on the spindle :(
(try pure alcohol Rob and if this doesn't work let us know what parts you need - Rory)

I don't know whether is a do or a don't, but after having cleaned the silicone lube that I had used (doh!), the ball still wasn't quite right. On the assuption that I needed to increase the friction between the rotor support band, and the case, I dunked the rotor support band in a sugar and water solution (to make it sticky!). It's made a definite difference. More experimentation required! :)

... I made the mistake of putting some silicone lubricant on the spindle in efforts to get rid of a squeeky sound that began a few days ago (nope, I didn't drop it). I tried wiping it off and am in the process of running it in hopes that the lubricant will wear off eventually. Although, I'm going to try Rory's suggestion right now, and keep my eyes peeled for any new findings Rob comes up with. And if I manage to find a good solution (if the rubbing alcohol is a no-go), then I'll be sure to post it up here :-)

The main don't that we have discovered is to not try and alter your powerball in any way, as it has beem precision machined and balanced, to the highest standards, so if there is no apparent fault in your powerball, the safest way to keep the high scores coming in is practice, 'short cuts' may work but good old fashioned hard work will get you to the top of the leader board with a clear concience.
Powerball....Absolutely Revolutionary!!
Paul
dont use it as much as me on your first day (hurts to type now)

DON'T put the Powerball down with the rotor downwards while it is still running! (I did, out of carelessness) It accelerated away over some papers and ripped lots of small holes in them, and the rotor got some black lines from the ink. It seems fully functional still though... :D

If you feel lots of pain after (unsuccessfully) trying to break the powerball world record, you may calm that pain by using your powerball at low speed for about 10 minutes, (worked for me :)
