Hi Guys,
i just received my powerball signature yesterday, and i've barely put it down since. Addictive isn't even close to describing it. I've pretty much got the hang of starting it manually with the thub as opposed to the cord, i'm managed a high score of 10994 yesterday with my right hand.
I found initially that starting the powerball was easiest with my left hand, probably smoother hand motions ( i'm right handed normally)
Here's the result of yesterday's powereballing.
(not sure if picassa allows linking, if it doesn't heres the web album dedicated to powerball stuff http://picasaweb.google.com/ReetyOK )
2 of the fingers in my right hand didn't just blister, they ripped before i even knew i was getting blisters.
This morning my top exterior part of my wrists on both hands is kinda hurting, not sure if its from strain, or because they got a good workout.
I love the powerball, my girlfriend is already addicted too, and 2 more people that have seen it so far are not far away either.
i've been reading the forums here a lot, and i still can't really find any info on working the triceps. Any tips for that?
Any tips to avoid blisters appreciated ( yes i did wash my hands with water + soap before starting everytime)
I'm guessing before you can do any serious muscle building with the powerball you need to improve the wrist and grip muscles enough to control the powerball at higher speed? is that correct?
anyways, thanks for any help, and back to powerballing with the left hand, the right is just a little close to bleeding for now.
edit: i forgot to add, i play golf and ice hockey. I'm looking to use the powerball to develop muscle to increase primarily my slapshot power. i'm left handed for ice hockey, right handed for golf.
thx

Welcome it really is addictive.
Avoiding blisters is difficult. Over time your skin will harden and stop blistering.
As for your triceps, most motions of the powerball will work them out to some extent. THe best muscle building is doing 90s runs rather than speed runs.
ok i'll give that a try. today i just worked my left hand a bit and the right using only 3 fingers to hold the ball ( the blistered ones were just hurting).
i did runs of 3-5k rpm's and just used the total acumulated revolutions to keep track. 4319 on the counter.
i'm taking it easy to begin with i'll work 90s when my hands are used to gripping better.

Congrats on your signature some rub wounds you got I got one a few days after I got it and the powerball is really addicting isn't it? See you soon hope your rub wounds heal soon!
the blisters are starting to dry a bit, i was using 3 fingers to hold, and my left hand yesterday to keep spinning.
this thing is so addictive it's not even funny.
i wonder what airline policies are as far as powerballing in flight?
anyone ever tried to powerball in the plane?

No...would probably annoy the other passengers! ;) But I'll be taking a couple with me snowboarding in March I expect.
i'm wondering wether some overzeaelous ***** at airport customs might consider it a weapon of mass destruction and not let you take it on.
at low speeds the noise isn't that anoying.
actually i was thinking it might be a good idea if powerball made a "travel" powerball, made to rotate at low speeds with minimal noise (so that you don't get the entire coach section of the plane trying to hurt you), and maybe even slightly smaller since you're aiming at a slower speed version.
i don't know just a thought. could also be a 10-15 year old powerball due to it's size, or women with smaller hands.
PS: i work in IT, not in marketing :)
You mean that horrible grinding and squeeking sound is not normal?
I saw this option in a poll on another thread. i'm a little bit concerned as my brand new signature pb actually does have a bit of a grinding and squeeking noise, primarily at low speeds. It hasn't been dropped, it ripped half my fingers and arm off the other day, but that was just a bit of skin caught in the way.
i take it the noise is not normal? any sugestions?
Hi reety,
Yeah, the sound you're referring to is probably normal. The track over which the axle runs becomes less smooth over time. Nothing to worry about as it improves the grip and (at least in my case) makes the PowerBall faster!
Kind regards,
Dennis
Well reety,

I think the Metal is very silent. However, it's a fraction bigger than the regular 250Hz. A bit heavier also (generates more torque), so with less speed, you'll have a similar work-out. However, it's more expensive and the metal encasing may make it even more dangerous-looking for airport customs.
i don't know just a thought. could also be a 10-15 year old powerball due to it's size, or women with smaller hands.
There are plenty of 15-year-old PowerBallers with very decent scores. Similarly, there are women around here who easily beat men at both speed and endurance with the PowerBalls currently available.
Kind regards,
Dennis
didn't mean any disrespect to the younguns or the female powerballers, just that some of them are quite small and delicate, and the powerball is a bit big for smaller hands. Not a criticism, just a thought. i'll try to find a video of the metal to compare the noise level, but you're probably right about the customs.

I still think a smaller version would be good though if it were possible. Certainly my girlfriend loves the powerball, but even with grip stuff she can't hold it beyond only 7,000rpm even though she can get that speed easily. Her hands are simply to small.
Hi reety,

I didn't take it that way; don't worry (and don't think women and youngsters are offended). This topic has already been discussed and, unfortunately, the production of smaller PowerBalls would cost more than the money they'd raise, I'm afraid. Youngsters grow up and will need bigger PowerBalls. Most women I know have found a way to cope with the size and produce respectable scores.
Kind regards,
Dennis
Thanks for all your answers. i didn't know it had previously been discussed.
i find my pb so addictive that i wish i could take it with me in the train, metro/bus/tube, work etc, but the combination of noise + lights kinda atracts a little too much attention for me. =)

These Powerballs definitely are addictive (in a good sense because you are exercising), and I don't mind the attention it attracts from other people too much at all. In the end, I think I might be helping them finally find a product that will make them happy. :D

i got an aditional question. i got in a car crash in august, i was stopped at a red light and got hit from behind ( fast).
as a result i had whiplash, which is almost sorted out now, but i've also had pains on the inside of my chest, between my sternum and my spine.
my chiro and i are working on various things, and the indications are that i've had damage (no breaks) to my sternum/ribs attachments and sternum/clavicle, due to the seatbelt basically.
does anyone know if using the powerball in a specific way can help strengthen the cartilage/ligaments in the chest area, if so what's a good way to go about it?
thx again!
i've had my pb since saturday morning, and i've been slowly since saturday using it almost non stop at average speeds with a few attempts at peaks since my left hand doesnt break 10k ( stuck at like 9.2k) and my right hand has 2 fingers i can't use for griping. all my arm muscles, wrist, forearms biscep and tricep seem to be getting a real nice workout. i already feel my forearms getting harder, and my biceps seem to have taken a bit of a boost in a different place than standard bellbar weightlifting.
i even find myself whipping my wrist back and forth at work and stuff when im bored and i wish i could powerball. this device should come with a surgeon general warning about the addictiveness of it :) (in a good way).
i'm sending my friends over to get themselves one as soon as i can convince them.
at this stage i'm not focusing on records, benchmarks or anything much. ok that's a lie, i do try a few record runs when i feel like i'm starting to spin faster, but honest it's just a bad habit =). i usually leave my pb on the total revolutions, reset it at 0, and just spin different rotations with both arms back and forth, drying my hands when i switch etc, and i just spin until my muscles feel like they've gotten a workout and anymore is walking the thin line between workout and injury ( and dropping the pb).
back to work, and can't wait to get home to powerball some more!
