Hello All,
Well I couldn't resist any longer, I went and bought myself a metal!!
WOW!! It's a lot heavier than I was expecting, and so smooth, not to mention good looking, I didn't want to touch it, but I got over that :)
I did an hour with it, five minutes per hand, managed 318,600 revs, that's 5,310 rpm average. My right hand could just about cope, left was a struggle. After a rest I tried my first and so far only speed run with it, managed 9,735 rpm.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/9735_350_BPL.jpg
Apart from the hour on Friday that I spent powerballing with two plastic balls that I've already mentioned elsewhere that's all I've done.
Still addicted,
--Barry.

The metal really is a lovely ball. I love and hate it due to how slippy it is though, but it sure does work the arm out.

Thanks Skyler, I thought I'd treat myself to an early Christmas present, though torture may be a better choice of words, I'm finding it really hard work.
I know what you mean there Tstering, I'm stuggling to keep hold of a mine a bit, and that's caused a pretty nasty blister on my left hand, so I may be forced to give it rest.
I did manage to increase my one hour, five minutes per hand score to 331,600 revs though.

I love and hate it due to how slippy it isI'm kind of the same really. I'm not in this to strengthen my grip, which is why I use a grip-enhancer for the Metal, because then I only love it. (And respect it in the morning of course!) ;)

Just a quick post to say i got my one hour of five minutes per hand metal score to 350,500 revs and after that passed the 10,000 rpm mark with 10,011 rpm. Beating personal records feels great :)
barrybpl
17-12-2006, 04:24
I've only gone and done it again :)
Up to 10,070 rpm with the metal now.
Since using the metal the plastic seems soo light now, but I still cant beat my record (12,729) on that, though I am getting closer than I've been in a while.

I find that improvements with the Metal don't necessarily mean you'll see improvements with the plastic. In fact, I find them to be mutually exclusive. I was making massive improvements with the Metal a couple of months back, to the value of adding around 1000 revs to my record, yet my Plastic speed was quite static. The other day I upped my plastic record, yet my Metal scores were a bit pants.

Hello,
I've not posted anything for a while, so here's an update.
First up, I've finally looped the metal for the first time!!
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/99999_350_BPL.jpg
Took me between 12/12/2006 and 09/01/2007, really pleased to get it done in under a month.
Metal records at this point are;
10,403 rpm (rh) 9,910 rpm (lh)

Hello,

First up, I've finally looped the metal for the first time!!
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/99999_350_BPL.jpg
Took me between 12/12/2006 and 09/01/2007, really pleased to get it done in under a month.
Metal records at this point are;
Speed: 10,403 rpm (rh) 9,910 rpm (lh)
30s: 4454 (rh) 4196 (lh)
60s:
90s: 12616 (bh)
Long Run: 358,200 revs (5970 rpm) (five minutes per hand for one hour)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/10403_350_BPL.jpg
Moving on to the plastics, I've been stuck on 12,729 with the signature since 17/11/2006, but last night I finally beat it with a 12,806 from my 250 hz pro. 13k is the obvious target but it still seems miles away though I'm well pleased at the improvement though, however small.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/12806_250_BPL.jpg
Plastic records at this point are;
Speed: 12,806 rpm (rh) 12,111 rpm (lh)
30s: 5504 (rh) 5002 (lh)
60s: 10271 (bh)
90s: 14947 (bh)
Med Run: 160,600 revs (8030 rpm) (one minute per hand for 20 minutes)
Long Run: 445,000 revs (7416 rpm) (five minutes per hand for one hour)
Now that I've looped the metal I don't what to do now, as that has been my main objective for the last (almost) month, start again I guess.
Hope I've not bored anyone too much,
still powerballing,

Nice one Barryppl, it's good to read about all your achievements. I sort of know what you mean when you say you don't know what to do now. When I did my 10,000,000 revs in 24 hours I sort of felt like that was an achievement to beat all my other achievements, and while long endurance is my favourite, I just don't seem to have the drive to do it anymore.
But if you want something to aim for, surely 13k with the Plastic has got to be your next target? Or what about 500,000 in an hour? Or 1,000,000 in two hours?
Tstering
10-01-2007, 10:42
Definately go for the targets that Adrena1n has suggested. 1million revs in 2 hours is a great one. It is a complete killer (atleast for me) but your arms feel really pumped afterwards.
Probably sounds like a stupid question, but how does your score fit on the screen if you're getting a million revs??
Tstering
10-01-2007, 15:56
The first counter counts 1 per 100 revs. So when it gets to 10,000 it is actually 1,000,000 revs.
So to clarify what Barry has achieved on the Metal, it says 99,999 meaning he has spun it an amazing 9,999,999 times.
It only counts up while you are on that setting though, so you have to be specifically using it.

I've decided what to do for now.... nothing!
I'd been powerballing for an hour or more a day since Noverber 19th 2006 with no more than a days rest at a time and probably no more than 7 days total.
Hopefully I'll come back stronger and finally hit 13k, will be nice to be blister free as well :)
5,000,000 in an hour sounds like a nice target, but I know I can't reach that with the usual 5 minutes per hand that I like doing, guess I can try 1 minute per hand for a change.
A question for the other people that do do the long runs, do you give yourself a fixed time in each hand like I do, or just swap whenever you feel like it, and how long does that tend to be?
I'd better stop typing now, all this powerball talk is making me want to powerball!
Yes, I'm addicted,

After about 10 days off I've picked up my powerballs again...
First day back I increased my 250hz 90s score to 15,234 (BH).
Second day (today) I thought I'd have a go at 500,000 revs in one hour, what a mistake that was!
I decided on one minute per hand, and recorded how many revs I did every 10 minutes...
86,600
86,000
86,200
84,900
81,300
85,000
Total = 510,000 in one hour :)
I've blistered my hands up good and proper though.

Nice one. I've never recorded an hour myself, mostly 10, 20, and 30 mins.
1 minute per hand is hard, Im more prone to switching hands every 30 seconds... not as good of a workout I guess, but it gets me a better score. =P

Hello all, just to let you know I'm still around...
I've not done a great deal lately, 13k on the plastic still eludes me and I'm starting to think I'll never pass it (more than happy to prove myself wrong on that one). Guess it would help if I actually practiced it more but I just find myself doing long runs on the metal, where it's nice and quiet I sit and watch TV while I'm doing it.
Speaking of which, I did 667,500 revs in 2 hours at 5 minutes per hand with my metal earlyer which is a new record for me.
...well that's about it.

...at 5 minutes per hand...I don't know how you do that. Even at relatively low revs, 5500 in your case, I can't keep it going with one hand for 5 minutes...the lactic acid just builds up too much.
I will have a one-hour session with the Metal soon though...see what I can do, because I've never done any extreme endurance with it yet.

Hey,
I thought I'd have a go at 1,000,000 revs in 2 hours... and I did it! :)
I managed 1,083,000 revs in 2 hours at 30 seconds per hand on my 250hz pro blue. (9025 rpm average)
That was 553,000 revs (9216 rpm) in the first hour and 530,000 revs (8833 rpm) in the second hour.
It was certainly an effort but I'm pleased I did it, that said, I don't think I'll be doing it again in a hurry. :)
That's 2 out of 3 of Adrena1in's targets reached, just need the 13k now, which I feel is going to be the hardest as I've only been hitting 12.6k's lately, maybe I'm just plain not strong enough, I am built like a twig, or my technique needs some work, or both.
I don't know how you do that. Even at relatively low revs, 5500 in your case, I can't keep it going with one hand for 5 minutes...the lactic acid just builds up too much.
Probably the same way I don't know how you have got so many impressive records. Watching your 90s run, and the whole looped counter in 24 hours thing, amazing.
I don't know how I came up with 5 minutes per hand, I know I was using it on the sig ball before I got the metal and it just kinda stuck, like you say, I only go slow and it is comfortable, my best 1 hour - 5 minute per hand average speed is 5970 rpm, would like to get that up to 6000 rpm.
Going even slower, I have used the metal for 20 minutes left handed at 4985 rpm once, not to mention that time I did 2 plastics at the same time for an hour, I'm thinking of doing that again btw.
...and finally,
I spotted the foot trainer and the electric starter in the shop earlyer, so I think a shopping spree is in order. :)
--Barry.
Good going with those endurance feats!
Nice one Barry =D

Hello all,
It's not really much of an achievement I admit, but I noticed 3 of my powerballs all showing a similar number of total revs, so thought I'd get them equal for the sake of it...
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/36195_BPL.jpg
That's 3,619,500 revs shown on my metal, my signature series, and the 250hz pro blue.
Although they're not quite as close as they look, the metal and the sig have both been looped once so far where the pro blue hasn't.
Still, it means that photo represents 30,858,500 revs! :D
PS, still no closer to 13k, but I've got a number of powerball related blisters/cuts at the moment.

Hey,
Feels like I've waited forever to say this... I finally broke 13k :D !!
I'd done a 20 minute run, 1 minute per hand, with 3 different arm postitions (that I only do twice a week) and got my best number of revs for that yet, then thought I'd have a quick go at some speed...
Spun it up with powerballalyzer running, as always, and thought it looked pretty close, looked down at the ball, and it was still in rev counting mode!
Had another few goes and got 12921, 13047, and finally 13068!
Happy Happy...
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/13068_250_BPL.jpg

Did my first ever dual hand speed run and got 23,408 rpm (11714 right + 11694 left).
Finally my first ever dual hand 90s endurance managed 24905 (13081 Right + 11824 Left).

Hi LTLFTC,
Powerballalyzer is a fantastic piece of software that plots a graph of how fast the powerball is spinning based on the sound it makes.
It's discussed here
http://www.gyrotek.net/forum/ftopic891.html
As for the 13k, I was stuck at 12806 for almost a month, so I'm sure you'll get there soon, and probably go sailing past me, good luck.

I was just slowly spinning my metal while reading the forum, doing it just left handed to keep my right hand free for the mouse, at the end I noticed I'd done 198,200 revs in 40 minutes (4955rpm).

Hello All,
Just a bit of an update...
I took part in my first live competition the other day, it was fun.
I got within 16 rpm of my plastic speed record, which was a new record for that ball.
New 30s record of 5774.
New 90s record of 16304.
I submitted a metal score as well but the less said about that the better :(.
Before that I got a new record of 175,800 revs in the 20 minute 1min/hand session I do twice a week.
After doing all that and resting some I did 323,100 revs on the metal in one hour, at 5 minutes per hand which I was happy enough with.
Today my arms are killing me, I think the live aspect of it made me push a little harder.
I wont bother posting another picture, but I've looped my metal counter for the second time now, so 20,000,000 revs!! :D
I want to concentrate more on speed and resting for a while to see if I can do anything about my relatively low 13068rpm record, but I'll probably just slip back into my metal 1 hour per day every day without rest patten.
That's about it,

Hey LTLFTC,
Yes, the 20 minute run is on the 250hz ball, sorry if I didn't make that clear.
The best 20 minutes I've done on the metal is 142,900 revs / 7145rpm (30 seconds per hand) and that really wore me out, wont be doing that again in a hurry.

Hello,
During tonights 250hz run I got...
My left hand score up to 12,849 rpm (+248)
and
My right hand score up to 13,123 rpm (+55) :D
My fastest ball is now the amber, it has overtaken the blue.
I was working with the blue as I always do, had done 20 minutes endurance, and got a new record of 13,078 rpm on it, was about to give up for the night but decided to give the amber a go and was well pleased.
Hopefully this trend will continue,
--Barry.
Very intersting point about which ball is the fastest. I saw the same thing happen over the week-end. My blue ball was always the fastest by some 400 rpm and I was doing some 30s speed runs with my blue ball to build up strength - did that for about 20 minutes. Put that one down and started up the amber ball, wanting to do same time amount of 60s runs. Wound it up on speed function just for the sheer hell of it and got 13600 without reallt going for it flat out. Picked up the blue ball and scored 100 rpm slower. Go figure...

Possibly the heat buildup over long periods of use causes expanding that reduces the efficiency of the ball?
Not in my case, I actuallt tried it again, when both balls were unused for a while and the amber one again faster. I now have a problem. Working up to try and get some speed records by the end of the week and not sure which ball to use. Decisions, decisions...

Hello,
I've not posted anything for a while, due to having nothing to report really, my progress is as slow as ever, however...
I got my left hand score up to 12,918 rpm (+69)
...and I finally gave the podpower another go and got it working this time, although I only scored 5523 rpm I was pleased just to get anything.
Other than that, my pro blue axle snapped during a 90s run at the last live competition and the powerballs.com team have sent me out a new rotor, thanks for that, hoping it will come today. I've also added a 250hz original blue (for use as spare parts) and a neon red pro to my collection.

I had a run this afternoon and started getting some good scores (for me), my plastic record stands at 13123 rpm, I scored in this order...
13101, 13111, 13064, 13023, 13022, 13046, 13070, and 13024.
That's by far the most back to back 13k runs I've done but sadly no record :(
I also did 23,933 rpm dual hand speed and 25,336 dual hand 90s. Only the second time I've done that and dont know if it's a record or not.
My pro blue is sounding really rough now though and it's a fair bit slower than the amber so I'm thinking i may have to give up on it.

Hi All,
The other day in my post in the "Post you crappy scores" thread I said;
(Well overdue a new record btw)
and sure enough, in Tuesdays session I went and got a
Right Hand 13,316 rpm (+193) :D.
I don't know how I managed that, I think I did something slightly different, and wow did it work. I'm still not in the top 400, but that's a big step closer, and for the first time ever I've started thinking maybe 14k is possible.
I scored a low 13k left hand too, for only the second time ever.
I also got new per ball records on 4 other balls.
In the right/left race, right has reasserted it's dominance, not that I ever expected left to catch up.
I just about hit 10k metal, but my metal scores have been so bad lately, not even close to my record.
Well that's my news,
Barry.

That's great, Barry! You are moving on up!
I had the same bit of frustration as I went through that score range. I also changed the way I gripped the Powerball just slightly and then soon came 14k.
You find that each new level presents yet another obstacle to pass as you progress in your scores. Change is really the key.
You find a good method, stick with it, but it usually gets you only so far before you have to make another change in the technique. I remember that there wasn't too much on the mental checklist of my speed attempts in the pre-14k. Only when I started doing things a certain way in my runs did I gain more control over the improvements.
Nowadays, there's a whole mental list of things I do in each record attempt. If everything is right, then it's the magic gear. Leave out one thing - 15K-15.2k. If I missed a few things 14-14.9k. If I leave out more, then it's below 14k.
I'm getting better at keeping everything together, yet even now, I will have to change the technique oh so slightly to get a higher score.
In a way, it will get easier and tougher for you at the same time as you go beyond 14k. We all have a 14k within us. We carry the treasure box with us daily. Once in a while, we peek inside to find out what lies within. The key is being able to recognize the change needed. Once you change the grip (just a little), you will open the treasure box you have within you a little more.
I know you can do this.
Great discoveries await, my friend. Look inside. :)
Keeping spinning to 14k!
Always Powerballing,
Duane Cash
Well done barry, a well deserved long overdue new speed record.
Hope this is just the start of a new record breaking era for you.

First up, wow, I go away for a week and when I come back, people have got new records left, right, and center. Well done to everyone there. :)
I went a whole week without powerballing  , no new records now I'm back, but I got a 13,287 rpm on my pro blue, new high for that ball and not far off my record.
My powerball collection now includes a techno and I think that not including non-pro versions, I've got one of every powerball now :D .
Well yeah, that's all about all I wanted to say, I'm still here, still addicted, still powerballing.

Hey LTLFTC / all,
Best I did at the live was 13,310 rpm, just 6 rpm short of my record!
It was a new record for that ball though, so I guess it proves my current record wasn't just a fluke.

You're ahead of me on 30s and 90s, but like you said, I have got a slight head start on speed, although your improvement has been faster than mine.
Which ever one of us gets there first, I can't wait to see that 13500+ flashing back at me, finally get into the top 400!
For various reasons I missed out my usual Friday session last night, so no scores yet :(.

Hello All,
What can I say, with the over excited title you've probably guessed I'm about to announce a new record, and you'd be right :D.
I started off with my usual 20 minute (plastic) Tuesday and Friday session, and got a new high of 178,800 revs (8940 rpm). I keep meaning to start a new thread explaining exactly what I do for that session, but anyway, after that I got....
New Left Hand record of 13,274 rpm (+232) and even better....
New Right Hand record of 13,647 rpm (+331)
I then went on to get new per ball records on 6 other powerballs, highlights being 13,206 on my screamer and 13,047 on my neon red, that's my first time over 13k on a neon. It really was a night for flashing .
Best of all this finally gets me in the top 400, I'm well pleased.
If I make another jump like this I'll be looking at 14k, wow.
Okay, I should calm down now. Here's a pic....

Thanks Guys,
Felt great getting the new score and finally onto the top 400, don't worry, I have no intention of slipping down the rankings, unlike my metal score that was lost without a trace.
I'm only 30 rpm or so off the top 300, so that's the next goal, though another big jump is more than welcome :).
Any further improvement this month would be good for me.
As always I'll keep you informed,

Hey,
To my complete surprise, I've only gone and got another new record, not quite as big an improvement as last time, but any increase is a good thing, right?
New Right Hand record of 13,649 rpm (+2) :D.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/13649_250_BPL.jpg
It usually take me weeks to get back up to my high score, let alone past it, this time it only took 3 days, and it was first session since.
Long may my improvements continue,
Barry.
Well done barry. S'right, all improvement is good. ;):D

After Tuesday's session, yet another record....
New Right Hand record of 13,783 rpm (+134) :D.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/13783_250_BPL.jpg
I've never known anything like it, this is by far my hottest hot mode ever, new records three sessions running now.
I don't know how long I can keep it up, but I'm soo enjoying it while it lasts .
After my 20 minutes of 1min/hand I did 10 speed runs LH, and 10 RH, alternating between hands, and all 10 RH were over 13k while 4 of the LH scores were also over 13k.
I wasn't even expecting much from the session, as I still felt a bit worn out from the live competition the day before, where I got a 13564 rpm, my highest during a live, and a new 30s record of 5937.
I'm looking forward to see what I do on Friday, but surely this run can't last. Either way I'll let you know,

Hello,
Anyone notice Friday came and went and I hadn't posted an update?
Sorry about that, I've been really busy.... though not too busy to powerball :).
I'll get straight to the point....
New Right Hand record of 13,791 rpm (+8) :D.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/13791_250_BPL.jpg
That makes 4 sessions and 4 new speed records in a row !
I did 10 right hand runs that session, all between 13567 and 13791 rpm.
Also 10 left hand runs between 12717 and 13176, no records there.

Hi All,
Another day.... but not another record :(.
I'd got used to getting new records every session as well, and actually finished todays session feeling disappointed. That said, I did manage a right hand high of 13,716 rpm (-75) so I guess I've not lost it completely.
Well hopefully I'll hit 13.8k (or higher ;)) on Friday.
8 steps forward and 75 back,
Barry.
It's funny how your expectations rise and you end up dissapointed with what are actually not too bad scores and scores that a month or so ago you would have killed for hey:o

Yep sure does suck to be 'out' of form.
14K is eluding me again :( But if i get 13.8K or 13.9K I will still be happy and not try and think that I've done useless. It's not a physical battle all the time, you have to have the right mindset to break the records and feeling bad about a score close to your record isn't gonna put you in a good mindset.
All that aside I have every belief that you WILL break that 14K barrier and overtake me in time :)

Hello All,
I did slightly better in todays session than Fridays, I did my usual 20 minute 1 min/hand lark, then my first rh speed run got 13,767 rpm (-24), and first lh speed run got 13,124 rpm (-150) but that was as good as it got. I did a 13 speed runs with each hand, but it just didn't get any faster.
After that I thought I'd have a quick go with the metal, which I only really use now at the live competitions and haven't been anywhere near my record in ages.
My record with the metal? 10403 rpm I got on 5 Jan 2007.
Well first go and I got a 10k score, well pleased, not seen one of them in a while, and to jump to the end of the story...
New 350hz Right Hand record of 10,438 rpm (+35)
New 350hz Left Hand record of 10,142 rpm (+232)
I know my metal scores are relatively low, but hey, it's a step in the right direction :D.
It killed my fingers though, ripped off a few chunks of skin, and to think I've done 48 one hour sessions of 5 minutes per hand as well, not for a while now though.
That's about it,
Barry.
barrybpl
30-05-2007, 03:14
Not a lot happened today :(.
I only managed 8 speed runs per hand, all the left hand runs were in the 12k's, and all the right hand runs were in the 13k's, best being 13695 rpm (-96).
Looks like my climb to 14k has hit a wall, just like the climb to 13k did.
The highlight of the session was looping the counter on the pro blue, though the only original part of that ball is the counter.
I've now looped the metal twice, my signature once, and this pro blue once, so that's 40,000,000 revolutions right there :D.
Barry.

Hey Everyone,
wow, over 2 months since I last posted anything, so I thought it was about time I said I'm still here, I still read the forum every day, and I'm just about still powerballing!
Sadly the only new record since I last posted is my right hand metal up to 10,688 rpm.
Powerballing wise, I'm not as super keen as I have been in the past, though my target is still a 20 minute endurance session followed by some speed runs (how many depends on how well I'm doing) twice a week.
For various reasons I've been skipping some sessions lately :o.
When I do get to spin I'm around 500-1000 rpm off my record. What's not helping is my pro blue, it's really not in peak condition, I've cleaned it, and just now replaced the support band, so hopefully it'll be a bit quicker in my next session.... time for some new balls maybe.
So yeah, I'm not breaking any records but I'm still here, and still spinning, just thought I'd let you know. Oh, and I just created a signature... not happy with it yet though.
Barry.

Hey,
Another session today, nothing special, but a step in the right direction.
First up, two new powerballs, a blue and an amber, with the counters from my old pro blue and pro amber.
I did my usuall 20 minutes and scored 169,800 revs (8490 rpm), which was a little dissapointing.
The I moved on to speed runs, going right, left, right, etc....
The highlight of that was a 13,492 rpm (-299) which is the best I've managed in a while.
I did a total of 10 runs per hand, and plotted a little graph
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/powerball_speeds_10_08_2007.PNG
The first 4 runs were with the pro amber I did the 20 minutes with, then I swapped over to the pro blue. Run 9 was sitting down (the rest standing), and run 10 was after doing 30s rh, 30s lh, and 90s bh.
30s left hand was a new record of 5384.
...and that was my session,
Barry.

Hi All,
Still no new speed records, but I'm getting closer....
The best runs from each of my sessions this month go 354 rpm short of my record, then 299 rpm short, 152 rpm short at the live competition on Sunday, then 109 short in todays session :).
Hopefully more to come soon :D.

Hi All,
That "more" I mentioned in my last post came today :D.
I didn't even feel like having my usual Friday session, and very nearly didn't bother, but then I thought I'd just do it for the sake of it, if I get low scores nevermind.
I started off with 20 minute (1min/hand) endurance with the pro blue, then went on to the speed runs...
My record at this point was 13,791 rpm that i set back in May.
I did 7 right hand and 7 left hand runs, alternating between the two, best right hand score was 13,761 rpm (-30), I was well pleased with that, where I've not been that close to my record in ages.
Then I went and washed my hands and thought I'd give the pro amber a go, first spin and....
New Right Hand Record of 13,919 RPM (+128) :D.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/13919_250_BPL.jpg
Try as I did, that was as good as it got. I'm really knocking on the door of the 14k club now :D.
Then I moved on to the metal, at that point my record was 10,688rpm...
New 350hz Right Hand record of 10,689 rpm (+1)
New 350hz Right Hand record of 10,715 rpm (+26)
New 350hz Right Hand record of 10,750 rpm (+35)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/barrybpl/powerball/10750_350_BPL.jpg

Hey,
I was away last week so I didn't do my normal sessions, although I did do some powerballing, Anyway, for todays session I thought I'd train with my neon blue (I wonder why? ;)).
The session was nothing special, best I managed was 13,315 rpm (+10 for that ball), so a new record for that ball at least.
After 12 right hand and 12 left hand runs with the neon I moved on to my fastest ball, the pro amber....
13,722 rpm right hand, 12,743 rpm left hand, 11,718 rpm right hand and BANG!
The axle broke  :(.
I broke my fastest ball, the only ball I've had over 14k :(.
I should have some spare rotors, I just hope it'll still be fast once I put it back together.
Barry.
Hi Barry and nice session:D
Don't worry about that i'm sure after replacing the rotor it'll be ready for some 14+ scores again;)
barrybpl
08-11-2007, 03:51
My 14k ball is dead :(.
I replaced the rotor but struggle to get it up to 13k now, where as before 13.5k was reasonably easy.
Last Saturday I got a new neon record of 13,484 rpm, and that was at maplin no less, so that secured 4th place for me. :D :D.
Since then my best neon score has been 13,132 and best regular score 13,322 :(.
I'm really dissapointed with them scores, and dont know how best to train to avoid coming last at Telford.
Barry.
I find you need to run in the new rotor support band as well.

Well all I did was replace the broken rotor, not the support band, my thinking being it was perfect as it was so I didn't want to change anything I didn't have to.
Maybe with some more use it'll get better.
Shame about your 14k ball Installed, what happened to yours?
Barry.
Hey Barry! I think I may be experiencing the same thing you are mentioning about. My speed ball (maybe only less than 20 sessions) has also died. The rotor appears fine, but for some reason in the last two days I was only able to reach 1000 RPM below what I can on my signature/neons. Tis a sad day... I'll definitely pick up one or two more speed balls in future.
I'm really dissapointed with them scores, and dont know how best to train to avoid coming last at Telford.
I'm also worried about Telford. My scores go up and down. If my muscles get cold there, my performance will be low :(
Anyway, I know I'm not on form, and my technique is not good. I'll be satisfied to be among 5 first. I'll try to have a good time there.

Hey Guys,
I had a much better session today....
Using my neon blue still, for obvious reasons ;).
Anyway, I did 20 minutes of 1 minute per hand endurance as usual, got a new neon record there, just.
Then 30 speed runs, alternating between right and left hands (so 15 each), best scores were....
13,351 rpm right hand, new record for that ball, and 12,662 rpm left hand, which is a new left hand neon record.
Now if everyone scores the same in Telford as they did during the qualifying, I scored enough today 5 times to finish 4th.
I'm thinking 4th is the best I can possibly hope for at Telford.
I only managed 13,250 rpm with my ex-fastest ball, but it was at the end of the session and I was worn out.

No powerballing for me lately, I usually do two sessions a week, and for various reasons have missed both.
I've got a few cuts and blisters, and my middle finger right hand has a chunk of skin missing right on the joint, it hurts to hold my hand fully open or clenched into a fist so i should probably let that get better.
As if that wasn't a enough, a powercut on Wednesday seems to have killed one of my computers, so I'm not happy about that as it's a distraction I could do without.
Hopefully I've still got time to get a good amount of practice in before Telford.
Barry.
Now if everyone scores the same in Telford as they did during the qualifying, I scored enough today 5 times to finish 4th.
I'm thinking 4th is the best I can possibly hope for at Telford.
I think the best I can get is 3rd. But I can have a bad day and do much worse.
I'm having pain in my right shoulder, because I'm crazy at gym and never let it heal. But at least my finger tendonitis is fading away. Today fingers hurt a bit, because I did metal yesterday, but I hope they will be fine in 2 or 3 days.
So, I hope our 3 attempts at the final with finish as soon as posible, so that we can be more relaxed and have fun.

Hey,
I don't want to sound all down and pessimistic or anything, however...
Powerballing has been useless lately, I've been missing out my regular sessions, and not even read the forum for the last 4 days (I know I don't say much, but I read pretty much every post).
Knowing I'm not doing my usual session I decided to 20 speeds every day, 10 left 10 right alternating, well that didn't work out. 12,900 rpm RH neon was my best score, and that was a struggle. So at this rate I'll be coming last at Telford.
When I am powerballing lately I'm not focused on it, which I really have to be to do well. There's nothing major wrong, just a few little things in the back of my mind distracting me.
Maybe with a good warm up I'll get a nice score, something I could really do with at the moment.
Anyway, inane rambling over.
Barry.
That's really weird Barry...my scores lately have been not doing so great either. After hitting 14055 last Friday I've been going downhill...hitting, max, 13.4K, but sometimes giving an honest try and ending up with only 11.9K, and more consistently staying in the range of 12.3K. I've also been really busy lately, increasingly busy, so I'm not sure what it is yet. Just being at the Telford Finals should help you focus a bit I bet!

Even if you did come last, (which I doubt you will), look at it as tenth out of lots of people...and you beat me in the qualifying! ;)
As foir distractions...get used to it. You're going to have dozens and dozens of people watching in Telford, including the two best in the world, and perhaps some professional snooker players thrown in for good measure! ;)

Thank you, Adrena1in, to put even more preassure on us. I will find hard to focus among so many people. :(

LOL, and I think that'll be difficult focus in a tournament in my country with just a few people..., being in Maplin, I thing that I'll be Very very bad ( for the preassure)
PS: I hope that people there make some video about the tournament to see it here later... (when is the competition?)
PS: Don't worry Pako, you are one of the best... (more preassure there:p , lol)

Hi just to let u know my scores are up and down as well ,my right hand has gone down the pan ,a week and a half ago was getting 13500s and beat my top 250hz score 13700
now i cant get above 13000 but the good news is my left hand is getting much better i seem to be getting a better technique and scored a 13502 twice last night on 250hz
at telford at this rate i wont know which hand to spin with..
any way keep spinning!

I had a session today with a proper warm up, and a new amber pro, still disappointing but at least i got over 13k this time. Best score was only 13,272 rpm (-771 from record) but hopefully with more regular full sessions I'll be back up to speed in time for Telford.

LOL, 14k at Telford, not likely!!
I'll be happy with a score close to my record, just a reasonable score relative to what I know I can do.
However, if it's a nice big improvement then all the better :D.
My neon record is still the score I got at Maplin (13,484 rpm) and I've only hit 14k 3 times with the regular.
In the mean time I'm building an LM3886 Gainclone Amp for something to do.
Barry.
Don't worry Barry,
At Telford, everyone will be subject to a new standardized process. Neons, and the 60 minutes warmup/shaping are all new processes which can and most likely will present different results than the expected. I'd suggest trying to train along the official rules/conduct/guidelines to allow yourself to know how to warmup properly, when to rest, for how long, etc. and to rest yourself up (eat your veggies!!!) to build up energy for the big day.
The new process will throw everyone off from their usual sessions...

Just quick update on this weeks three sessions...
Best score on Sunday_ was 13,272 rpm (-771)
Best score on Tuesday was 13,170 rpm (-873)
Best score on Friday__ was 13,195 rpm (-848)
These were all with a regular pro (rh), not even a neon. Not that long ago I was getting 13.5k+ in every session :(.
Hopefully things will improve soon as these scores are just depressing.

Head up Barry not all is lost.
Re-think through your warm up and take a bit of rest. I can't think why you have a sudden dip in form, I'm sure you'll be up to scratch by Telford. :)
Hi barrybpl:)
I agree with Pete. Try and change your warm up a bit and try to get used to the 1 hour warm up that you'll have in Telford:D ;) Also rest a bit before you go it won't do you any bad;)
Telford??, I want to see a video of that day!, Powerballs stuff will record it?, I hope so...
I now that you can do more than 13k Barry, maybe is your tech, try to see some video of your best score or something like that... (I do that when my score are going down, and I improve a few hundreds)
Regards!!;)

Slightly better session today....
Best score was 13,355 rpm (-688) and 13 of the 17 right hands runs were over 13k.
I even managed a 12,971 rpm left hand, I was pretty pleased with that.
Looks like my scores are heading in the right direction now anyway :).

Todays session peaked at a quite pleasing 13,567 rpm (-476) with 15 of 18 rh runs over 13k.
My best neon score was 13,237 rpm..... Well I say that was the best, I did what was probably my best neon run while in rev counting mode, powerballalyzer said that run was about 13,310 rpm.
I chart all my scores as I'm getting them, this was todays session...

Best regular score was 13,377 rpm (-666) and best neon score was 13,301 rpm.
Oh, I've just noticed all 16 right hand runs were over 13k (just), that's some good news at least, other wise it was another disappointing session.
Now I'm not sure if I should rest until Telford or fit in one more session.

I'd keep up with short sessions if I were you, another one or two before Telford.
I had a short visit to the gym on tuesday morning, and will try to avoid the powerball until the competition.
My technique can vary a lot from day to day, so I don't think I can see any g00d result training with powerball now. It's too late... maybe next year ;)
This will be my training: work, eat, work, eat, sleep. :)

Right,
I've had one more mini session since my last post, 10 right hand runs with my neon green all over 13k, with a peak score of 13,425 rpm which was a record for that ball and my best neon score since the one I got in maplin :D.
Hopefully I can repeat that tomorrow at Telford.

You were wearing a T-Shirt and short-sleeve shirt out on the town in Telford...I'm not surprised you have a flu! :o
Hope you get better soon though. :)
I prefer cold weather rather than hot.
I used to wear a T-shirt, walking on street. Down to 5 ºC, I'm confortable.
Lately I'm taking more care about it. Catching flu or cold is not a pleasant experience, it leaves u weak for heavy weight training. But I found that I could reach decent scores being sick :)

Hey,
Brand new year, brand new powerball (opened it today), and my first spin since Telford, this is how it went...
20 minutes of 1 minute per hand warm up and wearing the ball in, 1661(00) (average 8305 rpm).
Then these right hand scores in this order...
13122, 13053, 13276, 13353, 13397, 13439, 13488, 13326, 13295, and 13104 rpm.
Left Handed...
12642, 12000, 12343, 12344, 12047, 12775, 12601, 12586, 12415, and 11928 rpm.
That was alternating between right and left, not doing all the rights then all the lefts.
Considering it was a new ball and I've not powerballed for over 2 weeks I can live with that, hopefully do better next time, would be nice to hit 13.5K+.
Next session Friday.
Barry.
Nice to hear from you again Barry. I haven't made any improvement with my speed score since I've over taken yours bout a month ago. Recently Javier's over taken me though and we'll have to see if I can't overtake him before you do :D
Cheers, wish you well in the new year!
Good scores Barry:) And also with a new ball;) Keep practissing and you'll get again a 14k score;) :)

Fridays session went alot like this...
Right hand...
13231, 13181, 13335, 13674, 13355, 13501, 13413, 13232, 13275, and 13238 rpm.
Left hand...
13074, 12434, 12786, 12809, 12549, 12490, 12227, 12279, 12167, and 12108 rpm.
That was a nice improvement on my last session, and my best right hand score in over 2 months, so that's good.
Hopefully I can get back up to 14k before my birthday (16 Jan).
Lastly, thanks to Pako and Pete for being on the gyrotek chat while I was spinning, it helps me having someone to type to during a session.
Barry.
Right hand...
13231, 13181, 13335, 13674, 13355, 13501, 13413, 13232, 13275, and 13238 rpm.
Left hand...
13074, 12434, 12786, 12809, 12549, 12490, 12227, 12279, 12167, and 12108 rpm.
Some of those numbers are very similar to my sessions...maybe we've caught a speed-limiting powerball virus...

Hey All,
My last few days of powerballing went a lot like this...
To start the story I'll remind you that my metal records are 10750 rpm right hand and 10142 rpm left hand, both records are months old. I know these scores should be more like 12k where I'm up to 14k plastic, but well, they're not :(.
After I did all the plastic runs at the gyrotek competition on Sunday I get the metal out for the first time in ages, just for the sake of putting a score on the board.
Eventually I get a score of 10478 rpm which is good for me. I saw that MJ was only 4 rpm higher than me so I had to try and beat her.
I tried for what seemed like ages and despite Pako's encouragement I couldn't go any faster.
Very late that night I tried again for half an hour and still couldn't beat it.
The following night I remembered reading that someone (sorry, can't remember who or in what thread) said something about putting another grip band on top of the normal one, so i put another grip band on, half overlapping the original, the other half between the grip and the rotor opening, if you follow that.
First spin 10662 (There you go Pako, I beat MJ, I said come back next week, turns out it didn't take that long :D ), then 10714, 10816 (+66 new record), 10697, 10890 (+74 new record), 10868, 10770, 10831, 10704, 10748 and stopped.
So that was late Monday night, come time for Tuesdays normal plastic session and my scores were useless, not as good as I was getting even on Sunday. The highlights were 13250 rpm RH and 12210 rpm LH. I gave up pretty quick, not at all happy with that, so I picked up the metal again.
Right Hand Metal;
10754, 10833, 10886 (4 short of new record), 10801, 10811, 10786, and 10758.
All of these scores being over my old record, yay :D.
Left Hand Metal;
10123, 10198 (+56 new record), 9933, 10211 (+13 new record), 10202, 9781, and 9587.
-End of Session-
So that extra grip band has really helped me no end, I'm well pleased with that, now I can keep hold of the ball hopefully I'll soon break 11k and be well on my way to 12k.
Picking up the metal again has killed my plastic scores though, but for now I can live with that.
Barry.
Nice one Barry. Have to have a crack with the extra band. I haven't metalled in ages either.
Very nice Barry:D Congrats for your records;)
I also didn't have a session with both metal and plastic scores being very good.:o ;)
Though surely a bit training with the metal will help with the plastic;) :)

Congrats Barry. After getting over 12k with the metal I haven't picked it up properly in ages and I couldn't manage 11k the other day. So your doing well with that and i think grip is very essential to achieving a high score. Onwards to 11k! :)
Nice Scores Barry, I will try using 2 grip bands soon... :p ;)
Picking up the metal again has killed my plastic scores though, but for now I can live with that.
Barry.
I think this might have been the same for me too unfortunately. I tried the double grip once, but found tha tboth grips would either slide off together, or one would creep into the rotor and stop it. I rose my metal score to 11.1 before having stopped though. I think we're in the same boat...

Great idea for the double grip-band! I'll have to give that a try.
I'm afraid to pick up a metal for fear of hurting my plastic speed hot mode.
i believe it was my idea for using 2 grip bands.i have found it makes my scores more consistent. as you said in my thread barry we are equal i to am getting the metal out in an attempt to increase my score.now you have given me a realistic target of 10890 cos my best is 10739, lets see whos first to 11k! wel done on the 1st record of 2008

16-01-2008, 05:02
Hey All,
Hugh, the 2 grip bands was your idea? In that case thanks for sharing, it really has helped me alot. I'm glad I decided to give it a try.
First to 11k metal you say... You're on! :D.
So anyway, last Fridays session went like this.... didn't have time so I skipped it, oops :o.
Today's (Tuesday) session went like this...
I started out the 20 minute plastic that I do, useless score there and almost gave up.
Moved on to a few speed runs and got 5 13.5k scores and 3 13.6k scores right hand, highest being 13688 rpm (-355) and best score of the year.
Nothing special with the left hand, maxed out at 12732 rpm. 12 speed runs with each hand in the end, and pleased with all the 13.5k+ scores.
Moved on to metal...
Alternating between right and left hand, but I'll list all the right then all the left hand scores here. No metal warm up, just went and washed my hands from the plastic then went straight into speed runs...
Right Hand...
10879 (-11), 10945 (+55 NR), 10977 (+32 NR), 11006 (+29 NR), 11012 (+6 NR), 10922, and 10829 rpm.
Left Hand...
10215 (+4 NR), 9931, 9911, 9922, 10038, 10257 (+42 NR), and 9864.
[NR = New Record]
Came away from this session quite pleased :D :D.

Wayhay, nice one Barry. Don't you just love it when you hit record after record in a session...don't remember the last time it happened to me though! :o
With your Plastic scores I would predict you should be getting nearer 11.8k right-handed with the Metal, so I imagine you're going to see a lot of NRs soon if you stick with it. :D :)
The last time I was stuck on plastic speed I found my metal speed improved...well, I'm still stuck on plastic speed. I didn't know you were racing to 11K metal, technically I would have won (11 126K December 2) but have only been able to hit 11K twice since then. I'll race you onto the top 100 metals Barry, I wonder if anyone else wants in...

Hey All,
For various reasons (none of them interesting) I've not powerballed or done any other exercise for the last 8 weeks, so thought it was about time I gave it a spin.
Best I managed was 13,536 rpm right hand, which is more or less the level I was at last time.
My fingers didn't quite blister but are sore in a few places, and I can really feel I've moved.
It's fair to say I'm not as addicted as I've been in the past, and at this point can't say that it wont take another 8 weeks to powerball again, but I hope not.
Just thought I'd share,

Had a session on Friday that didn't go very well for whatever reason.
The best RH speed run was only 13382 rpm, even though I did a 13.7k a few days before. LH was scoring a bit higher than lately but nothing special, topped out at 12651 rpm.
I was pretty disappointed at that stage, must just be a slow day?
Had a go with the metal, 10830 rpm RH. Then finally some good news, new LH metal record of 10558 rpm (+24). Not much of an improvement but I'll take it.
Barry.
Don't worry Barry, surely it wasn't your day;):)Try and focus on endurance-that may work;):)

I started off the session with a 5 minutes endurance and managed 50200 revs, I was pleased I managed the 10k average.
Then speed, first run after the 5 minutes I got 13659 rpm rh and that was the best I managed, better than the previous session at least. Also got 12790 rpm lh, that too was the first run.
Moved onto the metal and was just getting 10.8k's, so within 200 of my record, but would really like to see an 11k again. Same there as with the plastic, the first run was the fastest.

Hi Everybody!
Well like a lot of you I've been running a bit low on the motivation front lately, and what makes it worse is not spinning much so scores go down, low scores lowers my motivation so I spin less and scores go down more...
That said I've got back into it a bit over the last 2 weeks and I'm scoring around the 13.4k mark.
Now for the good news, thanks to RonAsor's new competition I did a metal run after about an hour of plastic and was very pleased with a 10.9k, so went and washed my hands and came back with an 11,128 (+116 NR).
Just need to stick with it now, see if I can ever get back to 14k plastic, and beyond.
Barry.
Nice one Barry, though I did kick you out of the plastic 30s 90s top spots. You can have the metal I haven't got it at work(plus I probably couldn't beat it anyway:o). Keep Spinning.
