Hello, My 350 Hz Metal ball is sounding a little like sandpaper and I'd like to open it. I read the FAQs and there are no screws that are under the rubber band. Can someone please tell me how to open and what to inspect? Thanks in advance.

First, remove the grip band, and then, you have to put your hands in each part of the powerball (the 2 parts of the shell). Grip each one with one hand, and turn them in opposite directions.

You should look for cracks in the rotor (can a steel rotor have cracks ?) and try cleaning the dust, I think that should help.

Yeah, like you're opening a bottle of coke or something.

The thing that will cause the most noise in a Powerball, especially the Metal, is a worn rotor support band. If the holes that support the rotor axles get too big, (which they will), then the rotor surface itself will start to rub on the support band. This got so bad with my Metal recently that it was getting difficult to start, (though it was fine at high speed...it seemed to settle itself at those time.) I replaced the support band and gave it a good clean, and it was very smooth again...almost TOO smooth...it felt wrong. (But I was able to add 350 rpm to my record, which is a good thing!)

Wow, I never knew you only had to unscrew the metal. Interesting.

Thanks a lot for the Vid, it really helped my understand how to take mine apart properly, I have just finished cleaning it and replacing some of the parts (the washers had almost disintegrated  ) And I'll use it tomorrow to see if its any better (it was sounding like sandpaper at low speeds)
Cheers again

**Edit** I just got it going and its amazing what a few new parts and a good clean will do for a powerball, Without any warmup I got 10,284 with my right hand (which would usally take me about 20-30mins) and my left from a cold start 10,542, It felt a little weird using it, because it feels so smooth now, thanks again
