View Full Version : Am I hurting my powerball?

My powerball is a great little exercise tool that I've had about 2 years and use every day, but I do have one question.
The rotor on powerball spins on its axis, and then it also rotates around the support band too. Sometimes it's fun to stop it rotating around the support band while the rotor continues to spin.
Does this wear down the inner casing, possibly creates small bumps?
Does anyone else enjoy doing this?
Does this post make any sense to anyone?

What you are talking about is referred to as the "Edouard" or "Burst" technique and is used by several people to achieve better strength index scores. I dont think it really that bad for the powerball at lower speeds, but doing it at high speeds will wear on the track if done continuously.

Does this wear down the inner casing, possibly creates small bumps? With the rotor spinnig, but not turning, on some Powerballs it'll sit quite happily in it's support band and just spin away. There are many top Powerballers who allow their Powerball to do this. However, the rotor axle sits inside a little hole in the support band, and it will slowly wear this hole down and make it a bit bigger, (but normal use of a Powerball can cause this too.) Some Powerballs judder and don't like being "Free-Run", so a lot of people tend not to do it.
Does anyone else enjoy doing this?I've never heard of anyone "enjoying" it. Well, I've let friends try a Powerball, and it seems to be a curiosity of complete beginners to spin it up and then let it sit loosely in their hand, so that can watch it judder about, but it tends to fill me with dread. (I even had a colleague say the other day, "What would happen if you spun it up really fast and then threw it at someone?! Would it wobble as it flew through the air?!"

Thanks for the input!
As it's something I just do from time to time as something a bit different, I won't worry about it too much. Glad to hear I'm not doing any damage at low speeds. Thanks again!

One of my friends does this for 'fun' as well. It is kinda cool for a change of pace. (especially with a neon)

Good to hear I'm not alone. Also using the neon :)
