View Full Version : Making a clicking sound after cleaning?

The powerball has been great up until I noticed it was running a little rougher than when I first got it. I opened it up, blew all the dust out with an air compressor, then wiped it off with a soft, dry rag. It's nice and smooth now, but it makes a clicking noise. Any idea to what this is?

Here's a sound file of it:

Thanks! :)

Oh, forgot to mention it is a 250hz pro.

I've heard something like that before, but have never been sure exactly what it is. It's a kind of light "clicking" sound which has always made me think it's got something to do with the tiny little washers which sit either side of the axle, between the rotor and the rotor-support-band. You definitely put these back in the right way round, and square to the rotor-support-band, yes? (No idea if this would make a difference...I've removed these in the past and it hasn't seemed to have changed anything, but might be worth checking.)

Also check to make sure there aren't any bits of grit or stuff hanging off the rotor-support-band.

I never took apart the rotor, though. All, I did was blow it off with air, and then wipe it with a towel. I guess I'll take another look at it later today.

Just open the ball and blow it with air pressure, after that the ball is new again.
Peace...

I already blew it off with 40PSI and still nothing.

I've heard it myself before in my own Powerballs, but am unsure as to what it might be. Because it seems like a small piece of plastic is making it, (and you can't "feel" the sound as well...you can only hear it), I'm still wondering if it is the tiny plastic washers.

Might be worth still checking them jmccalip. You should have two square ones and a round one...the round one and one of the square ones go at the end of the axle that sits within the cylindrical counter weight, the other square one goes on the other end. (The round one goes onto the axle first by the way I believe.)

The square ones can sometimes get bent...all the corners get bent around the axle. Not a huge problem really, but I think when they get like this they protect the rotor-support-band a little less.

If I were you, I would try removing these washers completely and running the Powerball to see if the clicking still happens. If it still does then it's obviously something else, but if it stops then there's your problem.

Put the washers back in, perhaps straightening out and turning the square ones around, then give it another try. See how you get on.

Whatever happens, I'm sure this isn't damaging, and the sound might go away by itself...guess it depends on whether you can live wit it?

Tim.

When I was cleaning someone else's PowerBall, I noticed one of the two buttons on the counter was a bit loose. That's what made a clicking sound. Wasn't able to fix it, though. Anyway, in this case, it wasn't the PowerBall, but the counter. Maybe you can check it out?

Kind regards,
Dennis

Hi, I tried taking the counter off, but it still clicks. I can live with it, but I'm afraid it might damage the powerball. How much does it cost to ship it to you to have it inspected? Thanks

Edit. I figured out it only clicks when going clickwise. I inpsected everything, and as far as I can tell(not an expert) nothing looks wrong with it. No bent washers, dents, or any shards of plastic hanging off.

you might think it's crazy but mine had a simillar problem...it was the screws that were too tight.i loosened them just a tiny bit and i became smooth and silent once again...try it, it´s worth a shot...

Still nothing.:(

is really that loud???
because if it is, and you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to make an end to it.
you could send it cabk to powerballs.com for a complete check =D

No, I just don't know if it's doing damage to the PB.

No, I just don't know if it's doing damage to the PB.

i guess that.. if it vibrates, then its not good for the rotor.. =/
Regards

No, I just don't know if it's doing damage to the PB.
I would say that's unlikely, but if it is then it's guaranteed for life.
