Anyone have any tips on how to target biceps or shoulders?

With the fingertip grip I can get a killer forearm burn in no time, but would like some tips on how to extend the exercise factor to other muscle areas.

Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, can anyone get "The Pocket Size Gym" to play on the video page?

How long did it take others to learn the flick/finger start?
I'm still getting the feel for building up from really slow spin speeds.

Thanks,
Josh

Obviously no single accessory or exercise gadget is optimal for all muscles groups

Can powerballs give you rock hard abs? - I don't think so - at least not very efficiently.

e.g. generally speaking free weight exercises are a pretty efficient means of bulking up

for pecs - inclined dumbell press are pretty good;

biceps - dumbells curls

chest - bench press

grip - hand grips, powerballs, claw curls, hammers, etc...

Your best bet as a beginner, is to join your local health club - a good one will have staff to show you how to do the exercise routines properly.

good luck.

ps: there are many excellents sites on bodybuilding.

there's a bunch of videos on how to target different muscle groups, but you can flex while pballing ot hit biceps, or do arm straight out for shoulders and deltoids, basically differnt arm angles

Thumb flick start - 30 min - 1 hour (15 minutes just working on flicking)

one hand start - 2 hours/hand over a couple of days, again practicing flick (if you have a wrist strap, wear it, I threw two powerballs onto the ground learning this one for each hand)

Anyone have any tips on how to target biceps or shoulders?I have a fairly straight arm when I Powerball, hand down near my hips, arm locked straight and moving as little as possible...I've found the biggest noticeable improvemnt in my muscle definition is in my shoulders. If you want to target the biceps more just hold your arm bent at the elbow, with your hand nearer your face. You can't really target a single muscle when Powerballing, but you can exercise some muscles more than others.

The flick-start took me 5 or 10 minutes to percect really.

Personally, from my own experience I don’t think you can get a half decent shoulder exercise from using the powerball, I’ve never experienced even mild fatigue in the shoulders. As for biceps, you just put your arm into a position in which you would flex your bicep and your biceps should have some kind of a workout… But I gotta say, I don’t think you gain any muscles besides in your hands and wrists with the powerball, it works really more as a toning exercise for your biceps.

Well, I must have very weak shoulders, (I think I do) because once I put my arm straight out I immediately feel a burn in the back of my deltoids and in the teres major and teres minor muscles.

Also with my arm straight down and turning inward, my pectoral flexes repeatedly. I think this is good training for people who do sports that require lots of endurance, but obviously isn't going to make you look like a bodybuilder on it's own.

As far as not gaining ANY muscles anywhere else besides wrist and forearm, if it's feeling fatigued after you use the powerball, it's going to gain if you eat properly and rest, but you may not see a size increase because of the type of muscle fiber and aerobic nature of the stimulus to the supporting muscles used during powerball.

Anways, even if it only works out your wrist and forearm, the increased grip strength are going to help you lift heavier in the gym on other muscles, and that's nice too! (already made a huge difference in my biceps curls for my weaker hand being able to hold on to a heavier weight for longer)
