Opening the powerball without a vise

I´ve got a powerball that needs a good cleaning to works like in the beginning, so I have decided that i could open it.

I have read in the FAQ about opening it without a vise, and i have found this part :

"With a quick movement, step down onto the book, or piece of wood - if you have it positioned correctly, the two halves will 'pop' and are ready to be parted once you pick the ball up again."

Step Down, in my english dictionary , means "to run away from" (approximated translation) and it makes not sense to me. What do it means ?. Have I to "step on the powerball ?"

Please explain me this method with easier words :P (for example : "You have to put your foot above the powerball in the same way you do when you walk, you have to do it with strenght) Do you got it ?

A last question: "Is it easier to assemble the powerball ?"

Hello and Welcome to the Forum =D

ill help you on this one, to open it without a vice. well, just put the powerball under your heel and stand on it (stand on it very gentle, because it might pop before you can actually stand over it).
hope you understand that..
and to assemble the powerball, its a very easy task too, its very simple.

I actually think the easiest way to open a Powerball without a vice is with your bare hands.

Take off the rubber grip and remove the two screws. Then on a carpet floor, lay the Powerball on it's side with one screw-hole facing upwards, and hold it in position. Clench your fist and using the soft fleshy underside, hit the Powerball quite hard and fast. It should pop open quite easily.

I used the search in the forum (very useful :P), and I found a video in which a guy open the powerball using his heel (I have done the same). Now, the PB runs considerabily better and faster, but not quieter.

Btw, it is very easy to assemble it after the cleaning, simplily mounting it, and then putting one hand in each part of the powerball and pushing from both sides in opposed directions.

I thought that It was going to be more difficult to do the entire process.

i believe you saw my video. It's good to hear that my technique is spreading :) my powerball is very hard to open so all the punching and hitting it didn`t help. You can even see how hard it is to open it with all my weight pressing it with the heel. On one moment i didn`t even touch the ground and it didn`t open. So i found as the easiest way to open a powerball.

On one moment i didn`t even touch the ground and it didn`t open.I'm 12-stone and I've put all my weight onto a Powerball before and it's not opened. But a swift thump with my hand always does the trick. Some are more tricky to open that others though. One of mine I can open by simply putting it between my palms and squeezing! Makes me feel really strong when I do that! :D

I did that too - twice. It's a great feeling, but then the palms are sore. I have tender palms. :/

I couldnt be botherd to put my screws in from my last clean, it wont open so

All I did was take off the band, put it between my hands in front of my chest, link fingers and push together like squashing an orange or something. It popped fairly simply :-). No risk of cracking etc.

HE...i'am 16 years old and very skinny...i tried many of your technique to open the EvilBall...none worked...except a tip that somone wrote in some forum :
The ALLMIGHTY! PalmStrike! very very useful!
You put your powerball on the ground (vises OUT!) lying on it's equator (like a pined down ninja turtle)
You keep the grip band on to avoid the parts to flee (they're vicious ^_^)
And you use your palm like bruceLee (you even can scream a AYAAAA...but i'm not sure your friends will come back with you...)
And you Strike this ball firmly...

And.....suspense.....!POP! (yeah you're not dreaming..you DID IT..)

I think it´s better to do it with your heel , or with your hands pressing the ball in front of your chest . In any way, I will have to try that :P

I'll add one bit to Jimmy's step-by-step explanation there, for the "newbies".

Remove the two little screws first, which are hidden under the grip band.

Failure to do so will result in a lot of Karate Chops and a very sore hand, and a Powerball that's well and truly still in one piece! ;)

But if I don't have a vice handy, this is the technique I use. I leave the rubber grip off though, as these have been known to get damaged upon opening a Powerball.
