View Full Version : Techno scores

Hello,

Having no previous experience with powerballs, I bought a powerball techno last week. The first couple of days I hit no more than 8k-9k speeds, but since yesterday I have reached several 14k speeds, and once even 15k rpm. However, these speeds seem a bit unrealistic to me when I look at the top scores on this site, so I have a couple of questions :

- are higher revs easier on the techno than on the other models?
- are speeds recorded and displayed with the same precision as on the "conventional" models?
- is it possible my powerball is broken, giving me incorrect (exaggerated) results?

I can hardly believe that I would be hitting 15k+ rpm, my gestures are nowhere near to what I've seen Akis do on his videos.

Thanks
Wim

Hi Wim,

And welcome to the forums :D

1. I actually own a techno so i can say that it is much easier to hit higher scores on the techno than the regular models.

2. The scores are actually near enough the same (i have fitted a counter to my techno and thay are only a couple of rpm apart.

3. It could be broken but i don't think it is.

Hope This Helped :p

Best Regards

Slim :D

Some Techno's are known to produce faulty scores once in a while (a software bug ot whatever). Never happened to mine though.

Indeed, be aware of inaccurate scores with the Techno. I don't know the technology behind the Techno, but I've heard that there's a lot more electronics and magnetism involved compared with regular 250Hz and Neons. So my replies would be:

1. Actually, I've heard that achieving high scores with a Techno are harder instead of easier. Might be due to the extra rings in the internal mechanism, inducing more frictiona and, thus, lower top speeds.

2. The scores should be checked with a frequency analyzer program to confirm the score achieved. You can already compare the sound your Techno makes at the displayed 15k+ scores with movies from the top 5 PowerBallers (the very few fortunate enough to own an excellent technique and strong muscles in combination with perfect coordination of movements to achieve those exceptionally high scores above 15k).

3. It probably isn't broken. Rather, the counter is inaccurate because of the magnetic field generated during rotation.

Hope I didn't disappoint you. Mind that your scores could be genuin; but most extremely high scores generated with a Techno were found to be inaccurate.

Kind regards,
Dennis

I had a Techno briefly, and while it was nicer to hold, I did find it felt a bit resitant to reaching higher speeds. And because it was ground into me that you should never loosen your grip, I simply wasn't able to read the score, so I gave it to a friend.

As for the speed recordings, they're fake I'm afraid. As an administrator on the scoreboards I see about 5 or 10 times more fake Techno scores than "normal" Powerball scores.

What I usually do is point people to this video, made by one of our Top100 Powerballers, Daniel Soltero. I'm not 100% sure his top speed of 14429 is accurate, but he's a 14400+ Powerballer, so I'm assuming. Check out the pitch of the scream, and if your Powerball screams higher and louder, then perhaps my first comment about your scores being fake is wrong!

I've been watching the leds more closely today and I'm now convinced that the 14k readings I'm still getting are completely erronous. When I'm accelerating I get 1-2-3-4 up to max. 5 red leds illuminated, 5 leds indicating a speed of 10k RPM. But when I STOP accelerating and keep the Techno still to read the score, even at 3 leds (8k RPM), sometimes all leds suddenly illuminate, including the blue one, in a very short flash, about a second after I stopped accelerating. After the flash, it goes back to only 3 or 4 leds (ie the correct reading IMO). Obviously, this is where the error occurs.

Today I even hit 14k with my left hand, and I certainly felt like a lot less then what I do with my right hand ...

Anyone else experienced this? Should I get a replacement?

I think you will need to get a replacement rotor from us - this one is almost certainly reporting erroneous scores.

Can you please email liz@powerballs.com with a link to this thread and we'll get a replacement out to you!
