View Full Version : Question About Dual-Run Scoreboard Rules

Could I get a detailed explanation of the Dual-Run scoreboard rules please? The reason I ask is because I found that a better score can be achieved one of these two ways:
1.Get both powerballs going, go as fast as you can with right, wait for it to slow down, then go as fast as you can with left.
2.Get both powerballs going, go as fast as you can with dominant hand, switch the balls in your hands, and do it in your dominant hand again.
So are these legal or what?
Hi,
I'm not quite sure but i think that you have to just do as high as you possibly can with your left and as high as you possibly can with your right without swapping :p ....If that makes sense
But don't hold me to that i am just going by what i see in the videos :D

I didn't make the rules, but I do approve or reject the scores, and I would say that both of those methods would be unacceptable. The way I see it, the scores need to be achieved at the same time, not one after the other.
Method 1 is basically two one-handed scores with each hand.
Method 2 is basically two one-handed scores with the same hand.
Anyone agree?
Hi there,
I agree with Adrena1in that both methods would be unacceptable with respect to the intended meaning of the Dual Score Board. It is a matter of being equally balanced; I'd interpret the name of the Score Board "Dual" as "at the same time", otherwise we'd better call it "Sequential Score Board" or something.
Thus, to my opinion: spin the PowerBalls at the same time to the max speeds you can achieve. Subsequently, Tim has the cumbersome task to analyze the video and sound to see whether the PowerBalls actually reached their peak speed more-or-less simultaneously and not sequentially.
Kind regards,
Dennis
P.S. I hope this won't turn into a discussion like for the Edouard/Burst technique. Maybe future competitions should be kept as simple as possible to prevent misinterpretation of what was intended.

But no-one's posted a Dual-Run video where it looked like they were concentrating on one Powerball, and then the other...it's always been them wringing as many revs as possible out of the Powerballs at the same time.)

Absolutely,
For scores submitted to the Dual Run scoreboard, the Powerballs must be spun as fast as possible at the same time.

Great, thanks. I'm glad we got that cleared up.

Nice to see that discussion has been settled even before I read it ;-). Being the founder of the dual run I of course appreciate a fair competition. Moreover, I think that the videos available on the website are clear enough about what is meant with dual run. Anything which deviates from those videos and which provides an advantage should be regarded against the rules.
Dual run is all about being balanced between left and right, as Dennis correctly stated. From the very first day of my powerball experience (1 year and 4 months ago) I have concentrated on training both left and right equally. As a result of that my top scores are quite the same and this helps in achieving high dual run scores. I am pretty sure I can do 27k+. Actually, I already did it a few times, unfortunately, without a video running. Both scores were 13.5k+ of course.
Now, that I have recovered from my injuries, I will concentrate on dual runs again. Time to smash 27k officially ;-) Stay tuned.

Good luck, look forward to seeing that.
(P.S. It was quite bizarre that shortly after this thread appeared, and after I said we'd never had an improper Dual-Run submission, someone submitted a score which didn't comply with ANY of the rules. 1) He didn't supply a video, (not always unusual), 2) He only has one Powerball, so did his score one hand after the other, and 3) He used the Strength Index mode rather than the top speed mode!! :p I explained, and he said he's going to maybe get another Powerball and do a proper submission when he can.)
Hi all,
Do you have to use the same powerball models E.G. 2 metal's
Or can you use a 250hz and a metal? etc.

You can use any two Powerballs you want, but you won't score so high with a 250Hz and a Metal. (I expect Akis could still beat everyone even if he was using two Metals though!)
I might give that a try though sometime, 250Hz and 350Hz... :)

The rules don't include this stipulation, though in practice you really should use two 250Hz Powerballs as they will give you best chance for a high score.

Well, I'm glad we had this discussion prior to me receiving a Dual-Hand submission that seems to bend the rules slightly...
One of the Top Powerballers has just submitted a score, and he commented on how he actually got an individual record with his right hand at the same time. This made me sceptical straight away. I looked at the video, and sure enough, he speeds both Powerballs up, then relaxes with his weaker hand and gives his stronger hand a final blast, increasing the Powerball speed by around 1000 rpm. This resulted in a record score with his right hand, but, I think, a rejection of this score from the Dual-Hand scoreboard. Waiting for confirmation on this.
Hi Adrena1in,

Nevertheless, an interesting way to achieve high scores, eh? Wanna give it a try?
Kind regards,
Dennis
