View Full Version : Sensation
Hi peeps, ive just ordered a regular250hz pro (what does the 250hz mean by the way?) and the powerball site says that it gives you a sensation wen you start using the powerball...could some of you tell me what they mean by this please? what is so special about turning a gyroscope in your hand that gives you a weird sensation? and it would help if somebody could explain how a gyroscope manages how to resist your movement.
thanks guys, i no ive asked alot of questions, but id appreciate it if you could help by answering them. :)

Just wait until you get it and you will understand the addiction ... :)

Its nothing magical or mind altering, obviously, but simply has a feel to it unlike anything else.

Nobody can really explain the sensation, it is generally something you will observe in others when they first experience Powerball, or indeed feel yourself first-hand when you try one yourself.
Aside from being a serious exercise and rehabilitation, its great fun! :D
Have a look at this (http://www.powerballs.com/hamleys.wmv) video which should give you some idea of what we are talking about.

Yes Dan, wait and see.
I do understand your scepticism. I first saw a Powerball about four years ago when a bloke brought one into work. I'd walk through his office sometimes and hear this whining noise, and would see someone shaking their hand about while holding the Powerball. I just thought you had to shake it back and forth as fast as you could.
A couple of years later I saw one on-line so bought it, and for about an hour I couldn't get the thing going. But then it started to click...you don't shake your hand back and forth, you stir it in circles. Once you get the motion and the rotor gets to around 4000 revs per minute, you keep your hand moving in circles, but you then start to feel the Powerball assisting in that movement. i.e. if you try to stop your hand, the Powerball keeps it moving in circles.
The faster you stir your hand, the faster the rotor spins, the higher and louder the whining sound becomes and the larger the circles you move your hand in become. The secret is to resist the force from the Powerball and keep the movement as small as possible, thus allowing you to go even faster still.
For ages I just wanted to score higher and higher, which was the main challenge. And it's not just about speed...there are functions on the counter for endurance too, doing as many revs as you can in 30, 60 or 90 seconds.
Nowadays I don't really go for speed, I just like to hold the Powerball and idly spin it. It's a bit like a comforter I suppose, but it also keeps my arms in pretty good shape.
Enjoy, you won't look back. :)
I definitely agree with everyone here. I got mine about 10 days ago because my brother recommended it. Once you get one, its impossible not to pick it up almost everytime you see it lying around. It's super addictive and it's really better than what you are expecting. I've only had this thing for 10 days and already I want a metal. I'm planning on getting one as soon as i can hit 15,000, which i'm aiming for in about 4-5 months.
Adrena1in made a good point, I find that I always want to have it in my hand, even when im just sitting on the couch watching tv, just spinning it feels good.
It's definitely a great way to keep your forearms strong and solid, although you should definitely take it easy the first few days. I overdid it, my forearms are ok, but my hands are a bit sore.
ive had it for 2 days now, yesterday morning i woke up and couldnt move my wrists, so i thought hmmm....then i started using the powerball again, and this morning its even worse :p
owell, i can handle it. i spose its just your wrists getting used to that certain kind of movement.
I havnt really got the best out of my powerball yet though cause i dropped it in the first few hours i got it :(

Indeed Dan24,
Powerball will exercise your wrists and muscles in a unique manner, and it can take some time for your muscles to become used to this.
Bearing in mind that as well as being tremendous fun, and highly addictive, Powerball is also a serious exercise tool and should be treated as such...
As with any form of exercise, you should be careful not to over-do it, especially in the first few weeks. If you feel pain or excessive strain make sure to take a break from use for a few days to allow your muscles to recuperate.
