View Full Version : Are all Powerballs of the same model created equal?
My Powerballs were getting worn out and sounding rough so I bought 2 new 250Hz PRO Powerballs then was sent another one a few weeks later.
I broke in one of the new ones and can easily get 13400 to 13600. (My record is 13811)
I have been breaking in the newest one but can only get 12800 to 13126.
Are some Powerballs able to perform better than others, or is it a matter of breaking them in? I notice that the newest one sounds smoother but just does not have the bite yet that lets me get higher RPM's.
I want to be able to break 14000 before I get too old.
I'm 56 1/2 now.

Hello and Welcome to the forum, basicly.. the worn out powerballs have more friction (the white rings inside) is already worn out so, it will agieve more rpms...
the new ones should be worn abit before you start getting those really high socres =D

I've generally found, in my 2 years of Powerballing, and having used about 15 of them, that they need breaking in a bit, but that all Powerballs are different. I took a brand new Neon, a brand new 250Hz, and an old 250Hz, and compared them over a number of runs, and the old one was generally about 2% faster than the new 250Hz, which was itself about 3% faster than the Neon.
Similarly, I got hold of another old 250Hz some time later, and ran the test again with the two older ones and the newer one. Both the older ones were generally faster, with the oldest still being the fastest. (The older ones didn't have the counter-weight on one side of the axle.)
However, having only spun the newer old one recently, the other day I managed 13263 on it. "Great!", I thought, "If I pick up my fastest one I should be able to better that and get near my record of 13579!". But I only managed 12700 on it. I put it down to the old old one being a bit unused lately, and perhaps also a bit greasy, so I wasn't able to get a perfect grip.
