With regards to the ticking noise from the counter, in actual fact, this is part of the design of the unit and isn't any cause for concern.

The counter operates on a reed switch principle where the tiny switch is activated each time the magnet in the rotor passes close by (and counts a new revolution) - the little 'ticking' noise is therefore the switch opening and closing rapidly each time and is perfectly normal.

Hope this helps and with kindest regards Rory

Thank you for your answer, Rory. Personnaly, I have the same "problem". So, an additional question now : my sons have a 250 Hz amber model, with the same counter on it, and the sound of this one is more pleasant than mine, a neon blue Powerball. The sound is not the same although both of them have the same counter. My ball is really ticking (sob!)
Nevertheless, i really LOVE my Powerball !!!

Hmm...could it be that there is a 'rut' on the sphere surface inside, resulting from a fall or a hard time in the post during delivery (the birthing process can often be a traumatic time for the young Powerballs! :-)

This will of course cause more of a 'Knocking" noise as opposed to a 'ticking' noise so perhaps it is not the case here either.

In truth Metalmaster, I really can't say - we will be pleased to look at him should you decide to post it back to us? It will be returned the same day we receive it.

Hope this helps and with kindest regards Rory

I received my Neon Blue Powerball yesterday and I have the same "ticking", but not always, but it is loud when it decides to kick in. This is different from another vibration it has--which sounds like it is a "rut" problem as described elsewhere.

It's very disappointing to get a birthday present that may have defects, but the silver lining is that these folks seem to have a very good replacement policy--even allowing you to take it apart.

One last thing that differs from my friends amber powerball. When looking into the ball, the rotor is different on each side--one side has the "pin" that runs in the rut and the other has two metal discs (the magnets?). The amber powerball's discs mirror each other during rotation (i.e., looking straight at the flat side of the outer disc, you cannot see the inner disc).

With my neon blue, the outer disc moves such that in a full rotation of the rotor, the disc rises and falls (from the persepective of looking at the flat side of it).

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris - thanks for your valued enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, it would appear that your shiny sphere has received a hard time while being posted to you (it was probably dropped at some stage) - I would suspect that this is where the 'ticking' is appearing from in this case. Please keep in touch and let us know what parts you need.

With kind regards Vera
