View Full Version : Contradictory or just me?
Hello
When I was reading the instructions for my powerball, it said:
-I need to hold it in my palm
-I need to keep a firm grip on it from start to end
-the counter counts the rpm in real-time
I dont understand how to hold it firmly in palm whilst "monitoring" the rmp in real-time[the digital display is "buried" in my palm]. So, for example, i dont know how close I got to my record, as i'm only supposed to let go when the gyroscope has stopped. Any tips?
Thanks

Erm...the counter has different modes, one of them being peak-detection (RTFM :D ). So, then you can easily see your performance AFTER your record attempt.
You are right. The real-time score mode is not that useful, not as long as there is no seperate score display device which you can put on a desk or so.
Good luck,

hello the force
i did read the manual, but i thought it pretty annoying, lets say, that i have to reset the record rpm i've reached each time. thanks for your help anyway.

You don't have to reset your top speed every time. It will remain there until you break that record. If your record is 10,546 but you only score 9,999 or 10,545 then the record remains, but if you score 10,600 it will update with your new high score.
Thanks, but I want to know for every turn how close I got to my record [i.e. the peak rpm for every turn after the pb has stopped].

It will show your highest score, on that run, until the powerball rotor stops(providing you're in the right mode).
Hi
Do you mean after I slow the pb down when i finish, the highest rpm of that turn will be displayed? for example, my record is 9106 rpm, and I put it into real-time mode and reach a max of 8116 rpm - after the pb reaches 0 rpm when it *slows down* in that mode, will it display my highest rpm of that turn (i.e.8116)? If so, what mode & which pb version does it need?
Thanks

It needs to be in high score mode, lightning strike glyph!
That would mean I have to reset my high score eachtime I want to know the peak rpm for that turn.

No it wouldn't!
If you reset whilst the rotor is turning your all time high score remains and the current run high score is cleared, it's only when the rotor has stopped and you reset the score that your all time high score is reset!
Hope this helps.;) :D
Hi Autolupus
I put it in highest score mode (lightning icon), and there was about 8000 rpm there. Then I started the pb rotor at abt 2000 with the string, reset the highest score and began powerballing. At the end of the run, it said my peak was about 6000 - so for that turn the highest was abt 6000 rpm, but the 8000 had completely gone. the 6000 took its place. Did i do something wrong?
Thanks

Sounds like you might have an old style counter.
Has it got a white plastic surround?
Hi
It's got a transparent surround. It looks like this one: http://www.powerballs.com/images/powerball_thumbs/green_powerball_top_web.jpg

Thanks for all your help so far ;)

Hi
The second resembles it more. I've taken a pic of my pb an uploaded it, so you can check it out & make sure.
Thankyou

thats a NSD powerball ^_^
are you sure?
-on the packet it says 'www.powerballs.com'
-the pics on the packaging are the same ones that are used in some pb videos
-digi counter uses same icons
-it doesnt say 'nanosecond' on the pb or packaging
-has the 'ce' kitemark on it
-and it matches Exactly* the image @ http://www.powerballs.com/images/powerball_thumbs/green_powerball_top_web.jpg . The counter buttons, text, colour and transparency of material is the same, has a handle hole in the same place as well as the rubber band with the correct text and font positioned in the same place.

Step-by-step:
1. Press the ON button
2. Press the FCN button until you get to the lightning bolt
3. Start the Powerball and go for a high score
4. Check your score as the rotor slows down
It will display your current high speed until the rotor is completely stopped for 3-5 seconds, then it will show your overall high score (unless you beat your previous best). I think you are resetting it, which is why it's not saving your previous high score.
How can one make a transparent texture? I made a transparent gif file, but could not import it.

ty, but its not working :( If highscore is 8000 for example, it would write that on the display and not change unless i beat 8000 rpm.

I'm confused as to which site is the 'original'. whats 'nsd', and why is it on some pb short-clips? who are the google-sponsored 'powerball-gyros.com'? and is there an official website for the* 250hz powerball gyro? finally, with regards to the quoted above, is my powerball an 'original' powerball?
thanks

the NSD powerballs are manufactured by Nanosecond.
the powerballs of this site "www.powerballs.com" are indeed NSD powerballs.
your powerball belongs to this site, and its an original NSD powerball (a good one )
any doubt?

I think you guys are getting confused here. There are many different models of the Powerball counter. The really old ones had a white border and an actual on/off switch.
Then they were updated and had three functions, and it sounds to me like YM15 has one of these. The easiest way to tell is to switch the function to the Strength Mode, (image of a flexed arm). If the counter shows '0' then it's the older counter. If it shows '30' then it's a newer counter.
The old counter will ONLY show the highest score achieved...it won't show the current highest score unless it surpasses the stored high score. Also, with these counters, pressing ON/CLR will remove the high score, even when the rotor is spinning.
YM15, if this is a new Powerball, then the supplier you got it from might have had it a long time...or you've just been unlucky and got an old counter. I'm sure if you return the counter to Powerballs.com they'll issue you a replacement. Email liz@powerballs.com to discuss this.
Tim.
Hi
Thanks for your help. Eventhough the counter looks like a new one and has three functions, it shows '0' when on the flexed arm icon, so i guess it must be an old counter.
