You are quite right. The sound you are hearing from your ball IS different to the one Akis' makes. But then again you are not spinning your ball up to 16K, right?

I didn't read all your thread Andy, but I did pick up the bit about "in case you'd want to send me your 15k ball for a try". Well I'm not sending you my current favourite Old Skool Ball because I like it too much. However, how about I send you one of my other balls that has something like 14.5k on it? You keep saying how you matched my score on the previous ball I sent you, so since you're so sure of yourself, you'll be able to match my 14.5k score, won't you? Yeah?

PM me your address again and I'll post another of my Powerballs to you and we'll go from there.

Though I know EXACTLY what's going to happen if I do send it. You'll score 13k to 13.2k perhaps and assume that I must've cheated somehow to put 14.5k on the counter, because according to you a standard unmodified Powerball runs out of gas at about 13.5k and it's not possible for such a device to be spun any faster. (Though what I hope happens is that you try and try and get better and better and manage 14.5k, and it won't be through using a trick ball...it'll be through using a standard ball and we'll all be happy for you.)

So, I'm willing to send you another ball, if you like. Let me know.

Let's just say that Andy is right and that a standard unmodified powerball "runs out of gas" at about 13500 rpm. Then by taking a quick look at the scoreboards it is easy to see that more than 500 different people from all over the world have all modified their powerballs (by making thinner axles and/or making lighter rotors, etc) and submitted scores that cannot be achieved on standard balls.
Or maybe all these 500 people have ordered the "special" ball from RPM Sports. You know, the high performance ball that RPM Sports is willing to provide to everybody all over the world exept Andy.
Yeah, that must be it. That makes a lot of sense...

No, I'm not talking about different pitch. It sounds differently long before 16k is reached.

What a sarcasm. Did I hit a nerve?

The scoreboard requires video evidence for scores in excess of 14000 rpm, and indication of the counter for lower scores can easily be achieved by acting on the counter with magnetic field of relevant frequency, e.g. with the aid of compressed air driving the rotor or even several magnets attached to a fan (there are relevant videos, do some searching).

Besides, it seems that by far not every 14k+ score was supported with a video. Have you seen Rory McLoughney's video for his entry? Where is it? I'd like to have a look.

Funny. Last time I recall you posting was when I invited Akis in this forum to spin a ball in the summer of 2009 (there were several threads, all deleted) with some similar stuff + some advocacy of Akis.

As I said, I don't have any illusions about my current form (the ball was dying back in December when I requested the replacements attaching photos and sound and RPM Sports refused to provide them while serving replacements to people who dropped their balls if the post I saw was true).

Besides, for unworn 2.00 mm axle 14500 rpm means matching if not exceeding my oscillation rate. Do you really expect anyone to oscillate faster with spinning powerball in hand than without it? I don't. And I would still like to see your own report of osc. rate in relevant thread. Is there any problem with it?

Exactly. According to my transparent experiments I described earlier, in fairplay mode (no tricks of whatever sort) it's possible to get around 13500 rpm, with some deviation. Takes a good ball and someone good at spinning.

Hmm, didn't it happen already, except the ball was capable of around 13100 at best effort, as it turned out? My matching your score came after very hard work, suffice it to say by the time I hit 13k on December 30 or 31 2008 I was at 17k/90s and nearly 6200/30s (grip with loose changeovers), and endurance scores were not my goal. Hitting 13k during the last days of 2008 was so rewarding (I was getting around 12900 for a month or so, maybe longer) that I posted a writeup to Russian forum with detailed report. And getting 13128 took me another month or two of very concentrated effort (I decided to forget about getting new endurance records and focused on speed), at which point the ball decided to die its final death.

I don't have any motivation to go all this way again, and if my effort doesn't convince you that I trusted your achievement was real from the start (and I think I scored around 12300 rpm on day 1 with your ball, which was around 1000 rpm more than on my ball!), I don't know what will.

No, the number of fins is invisible in the Akis's and many others' videos.

For me it's probably harder to say for sure if there are no other methods than to think of something else. 2nd magnet, broken counter which routinely displays a higher reading, reverse video when required score is first set in whatever manner and before showing the counter to camera it is reset to show current rpm... There are probably many more.

But maybe not for someone experienced, who put some thought into how he should move at 8000 rpm in order to not look ridiculous? On the other hand, you may have a point there. I recall when I just found out about the powerball watching Akis videos was an extremely laughable thing.

Sorry, I just don't understand how it can possibly be that way (neither in theory, nor in practice). In my experience, even a slightest weakening of the grip at whatever point in the cycle results in ball losing speed during that moment.

Andy, this is the last of it. One more post from you on this and you're banned permanently. I'm sick and tired of you and your negative distrustful comments regarding the hard-won achievements of the community.

There is no conspiracy theory, there are no "special" balls. Its a fair competition, and everyone competes honorably. If you can't accept that then its time for you to find a new hobby.
I'm afraid it won't happen until we find out the truth or one of us admits that he wouldn't like for a transparent test whose results will be publicly available to take place. My sponsorship offers still hold.

And I suggest that instead of threatening to ban someone who has a better ear, a keener eye and a bit brighter mind you'd better be polite. Think how you look in the public eye with your repeated ban threats.

Can we delete all Andy's threads as well, as they bring such a huge amount of negativity to the forums?

just saw all these posts around this thread, and i have to say i am quite impressed.Powerball scoreboards are made to bring some friendly competition along the product's purchasers and not blaming all these hard powerballers for their high scores.Quite the most negative thread to the whole community.

AM. It's AKIS were talking about... Show some respect. Sub 16k is not an option for him. All the balls are the same.
