Thread: Questions about the metal powerball

Default Questions about the metal powerball

I know I can't get one right now, but it doesn't stop me from wanting it right now! The site here says it's rotor is twice as heavy as the pro 250's and that what it ships with. But there is a lighter faster "screamer" they are coming out with a lighter rotor. Will you get both the heavy and the lighter rotor when it comes out, are they separate powerballs? Or do you get the heavier 1 now and later get a lighter rotor shipped to you?
Hitting high speeds doesn't mean as much to me as the workout these things give. Don't get me wrong, I want to hit high speeds too, but the workout is more important to me.
Also, what NSD stand for? (The all original NSD)

At the moment their having trouble with the screamer so you'll only get the heavy rotor but when they've developed it you'll be able to purchase the screamer rotor and drop it in your powerball.

    Yes Darrin,

The metal will initially ship with the heavy rotor, but once the lighter 'screamer' rotor is available its a 30 second job to switch the rotors once you get your hands on one.

As James correctly pointed out, there are some problems with the development of the 'screamer' rotors because of the huge wear on the support rings, so once a solution is ready the'll be in full-swing production and will be available to purchase.

The Metal Powerball should be with us by the end of the month, and as soon as they arrive, they'll be available to purchase on the site and I'll make an announcement here.

    Regards

I think I ought to point out (and I assume I'm right) that the Screamer rotor will be available to purchase separately...it won't automatically be shipped to those who have already bought a Metal 350Hz with the heavy rotor.

Enda, as for the wear to the rotor support band, is it just as bad with the Screamer rotor as the heavy one? It's just that I accidentally lost both the tiny little washers in my Metal, and while it does still work fine, the rotor support band is VERY badly worn away. I put this down to the weight of the rotor and the forces it generates, rather than the fact it's metal.

That's correct Tim, the axel for the other Powerballs is metal also, so its not really a case of 'metal on plastic' friction and wear but moreso the weight of the heavy rotor.

We haven't decided yet what will happen with the metal Powerballs once the screamer is available - we may well offer the Metal for purchase with either the screamer or heavy rotor, or possibly a pack of both. Once they become available, we'll have all options in the shopping cart, and I'll post here!

    Regards

Okay thanks everyone, no one knows what NSD stands for?
So the metal powerball isn't 100% metal. The powerband is still plastic?

The rotor support band is still plastic, but apart from that, and the rubber grip, and the plastic fans on the rotor, and most of the counter, it's completely metal!

    And "NSD" stands for "NanoSeconD"

Okay so maybe that is one of the extra parts it ships with to keep it running smooth? It says it ships with some replacements parts, not sure what though.
Like I said speed isn't the biggest issue for me. If the metal produces more force at lower speed then it sounds like it's right up my alley.

Oh, I forgot...there are also a couple of plastic (polycarbonate?) "rings", which slot into the casing and provide the track upon which the rotor axle rolls. A metal rotor axle on a metal track wouldn't work.

It's these "rings" and the rotor support band that you get an extra set of.

But yes, the Metal produce more torque...lots more!
