Thread: One-handed flick start!

    Default One-handed flick start!

Learn to do the two handed start with thumb or two fingers first. I've shown a lot of friends how to one handed flick start it. You don't need those high RPM's either, for those of you who use the string and scream it up to 2500 with a neandertalesque pull. You can start it in the 800-900 RPM range. Hold it with the counter down resting on the knuckle of your ring finger, your middle finger wrapped around the counter, and your index finger around the center of band. Press down on the edge of the plactic with you thumb touching the gyro (like trying to make your thumb and ring finger touch). Rotate wrist so counter is away and gyro is at your chest. Flick ball away from you while flicking your thumb in the same direction. Mash on gyro and plastic hard and flick thumb to other side. Hold gyro up and rotate quickly but smoothly to get the gyro going. Akis does it in some of his videos. I can do it about 90% of the time and am up to 13520 after three weeks. Watch out Akis. ha

I can't do this with my left hand, but I can with my right...I think it's because I've always started the Powerball with it in my right hand, so I know just how to rotate it. My left, though slightly quicker, (13579 as opposed to 13476), isn't quite as co-ordinated.

But blimey, 13520 in just a few weeks? You're not normal!

If anyone wants to practice one-handed flick starts, get a Metal...they're SO easy to get spinning at low revs.

Thumbs up gonna be practising tonight!

Hey there fellow powerballers! I got my beautiful new blue neon in the post 5 days ago, and mastered starting the little beast without the string on the second day (in both hands) - by giving it a quick flick of the thumb.
I havent tried the one handed flick technique yet, gonna be trying that tonight for sure . Just looks soooo smooth when you start it with one hand, cant wait to try!

I havent got very high speeds out of my powerball yet, but been reading up about the pulsing technique where you lock your wrist and use your whole arm.
So far ive only managed a score of 10716 rpm, but gonna be trying the pulsing technique, and also spinning it anti-clockwise as that seems to get some people here good results.
Hopefully i'll make it onto the leaderboard soon (at position 300 or something...)

You still use your wrist when you pulse but but you have to pretty much lock your elbow and gyrate from the shoulder...now the pulsing does take practice, but now I can break 13K about every time and I don't go all out. I suggest you break at least 11.5-12K with wrist alone before you even begin to try to pulse...it takes some concentration till you get it down then it comes naturally. You need to get the wrist speed fast and tight, then move on to the pulsing. I just broke my personal best and am creeping up the leaderboard, haven't posted my new score yet, wanna try to break it again. I'm at 14089 but want to break 14100.

As far as the one handed flick start, just keep practicing. Mash your thumb on the wheel hard and flick it away as hard as you can till you get it down. I can one handed flick start it everytime now, moving on to try to do it left handed, need a new challenge. Read the fist part of the thread, it's the best way I can describe how to one handed flick start it.
