Powerball is really good one before climbing warm up... I also have some sort of experience of that one.....

So please forget about gaining muscles. Yes, your arms will get thicker and stronger but don't expect miracles.

I'm going to throw my 57 cents in the hopes it might help someone..

Yes if your looking to build muscles then hitting the gym is important (only half as important as eating correct after the gym but that's another thread). But to answer your direct question about the Powerball and muscles I still think it's possible, but like many comments stated it's more about strength, endurance and toning.

Having said that I have found success in making some gains in my biceps and forearms using the 350Hz heavy metal monster. BUT you need to use the PB in a different way. Meaning I will use larger circular rotation that hits the forearms, angled (90%) arm movements (like your about to flex a bicep pose) to hit the bicep peek and two PB at once again in the 90% angle to pump the blood into the muscle..

I lost 20lbs in the last year, gained forearm size and kept my biceps the same size (very hard to do when losing weight) with the PB being my priority workout device, so it's possible but you will need 100% focus and plenty of protein

Powerball is good for endurance, but for big muscle building I have found barbell/dumbell to work better. Powerball is great on the grip though.
