Default Wrist pain for over a year due to sport

    Hi,

I am a long time badminton player and since a year and a half ago I think, due to bad technique I injured my wrist. I am not sure what exactly is the cause of the pain ( might be ligaments, tendons or even fracture.? ). I still have pain in my wrist today. I tried resting a while back ago it was a month or more of resting and it seemed ok but when I started back I used the same bad technique and injured it again. But now I am using the right technique but the pain is still here. It happens when I try to bend my wrist up or down.
I suspect that I overused my wrist and my question is : Will the usage of the powerball will make my problem worse because it will force my wrist to work although it is already overused?

    Thank you

    Glad to be of service

Without being able to assess you its hard to tell for sure, but if when you rested the pain went away it does sound as if its an overuse type thing, and if your technique was all wrong that might explain a lot.

Overuse injuries occur because you put more strain through the joints, tendons and muscles than they are able to cope with. The only way to improve things is to strengthen the structures, or avoid the activity entirely.

So, in answer, either stop playing badminton, or strengthen the wrist. Therefore using a powerball would be beneficial in my opinion.

If it was my wrist I would use the powerball for only 5-10 minutes a day, and then not use it for 24 hours before trying again. I would also rest from badminton for about 3 weeks (if you can).
After this time, I think you will probably be able to return to badminton without flaring it up any more.

    Let us know what happens.

    Thanks for the answers

3 weeks.. Hmm. Many suggested me to rest but I love the sport so much that 3 weeks is like an eternity. But I think its time to do something about it, I'll take your advice I might get a powerball probably this week too hehe :P

I used to play badminton loads, and though I don't anymore, I did still used to get wrist-pain from my years on the court. I've used a Powerball for a long time now, mostly just gentle use with occasional blasts of speed, and my fingers, wrists, arms and shoulders have never been in such good shape, and never suffer from RSI or tennis-elbow or anything like that anymore.

I definitely wish I'd discovered them when I was a badminton player!

I play tennis a lot but not badminton. This probably explains why I never get wrist pains as badminton is much dependent on your wrist movement, is it not. But the best remedy is always rest.

    Hey guys,

It's been a week since I tried to be more careful with my wrist and only played a little bit of badminton and using the right technique I had close to no pain at all. But, it feels like my wrist has some kind of trauma it doesn't feel as comfortable as my left wrist and I still feel some kind of pain while doing daily work even if it isn't really painful. I've been powerballing for 2 days now. :P I'll keep you updated if anything changes

    Hey, Im back :P

Just a little update. 4th day of powerballing and surprisingly I kind of feel an unusual improvement on my wrist condition..its like a lot happened between yesterday and today. Almost no pain when swinging the racket, I usually had pain when doing common racket movements like clearing, backhands etc. I usually do 4-5k then try my best and go for the highest score possible but my record is only 9.6k I cant even reach 9k easily. I'll keep you updated.

    See you

Update : 90% of the pain went away. The 10% is only when I stretch it far too much than what I usually do ( I also play volleyball and that's where that 10% comes from because sometimes the ball push my wrist too far ). I think it's because I have a lot more support in my wrist area. I feel like my fingers and forearm muscle are a lot stronger therefore when I do wrist flicks in badminton, instead of going too far top side of bottom side my muscle support my wrist so it doesn't like crush my bones or something lol. Anyways I'm 110% satisfied with my powerball !!
