How to get the counter off

I'm trying to open up my Powerball to untangle the cord from inside but I can't work out how to get the counter off first which you recommend. Can I just leave it on when I squeeze it in the vise?

Not recommended James - it pops off easily however; use your nail or a knife blade (carefully) or a fine tipped flat screwdriver at either the 12 or 6 o'clock anchor points with a quick flick..! Regards Rory

I never bothered to remove my counter before opening the Powerball right up by popping the two halves apart, (which I can just about do with my bare hands now!) Didn't think it was really necessary.
