Hi Nick, wel done with your records! Just to answer you on your metal question: you have to unscrew the two shells appart from each other in order to open it, just get good grips on the shells.

Hi Nick! You see, the metal shells are not attached with 2 screws.(Sorry for using the word "screw", it was for the lack of a better word!)
You must simply hold the ball firmly with the rotor(bottom shell) in one hand and twist the top shell ant-clocks with the other hand and it will twist apart like a lid from a bottle.

Yes, as hentie said open it like coke bottle, you need also good grip ´cause it might be pretty tight.
