Unhappy Problems of techno from a new user

    HELLO~ i am new.....

i just purchased and got my techno model today.....i have several questions:

the leds do works properly, but sometimes it can and sometimes can't display the speed.....after i stopped my powerball, sometimes the led light just rotate and neither words or numbers are showed, even i have spinned it for several tens seconds...

also, i'd like to ask if i rotate the powerball in different directions in the same run without stop it, will the rpm still be displayed properly?

also, it's many, many, extremely many times that the ball just display "NSD POWERBALL", instead of any score....=.=

to be frankly, i am a little disappointed about this techno product...

I know one thing...if you spin the rotor the other way, the score (when it works) will display on the other side, through the clear bit where a normal Powerball would have the counter.

I think, if it doesn't display the score, it's because it either hasn't reached a high enough speed, or the current high score hasn't been beaten. Not sure.

Stick with it, it's a great product. However, if you're not that bothered about the great LED lights and the cool black rotor and the easier-to-grip-shape-because-it-has-no-external-counter, then perhaps a 250Hz pro would be a good idea as your second Powerball!

Maybe these instructions will help - taken from the FAQ I think, Ive had them on my computer for a while:

    1. Ensure that the rotor is being activated in the direction of the arrow which has been etched onto its surface. If you rotate it in the opposite direction, the scrolling score will appear on the opposite end of the rotor surface (up at the section of the sphere which usually hosts the counter on the other Powerball models) and therefore will be illegible to you.
    2. Give the rotor a spin to start (either with your thumb or the cord) and immediately start increasing the revs.
    3. Once you have hit 6000rpm, the first LED will illuminate. At 7000rpm the next LED will appear and so on until you hit 12K at which time the blue LED will also appear.
    4. As soon as you are ready to read your score, simply stop spinning and allow the rotor to slow down. As each 1000rpm scrubs off, a LED will extinguish.
    5. After the final LED has disappeared, the score will begin to scroll across the rotor surface.
    6. There is a technique in holding the ball to allow you read that score - it is a combination of delicate yet firm support of the sphere which cancels the inner friction and stops the rotor from spinning on its second axis. Until you get that "hold technique" right, all you will see on the display is a series of jumbled letters.
    7. If you are failing to learn this hold technique, simply attach the wrist cord (if you haven't already done so) and drop the ball from your hand as the rotor slows, allowing it to hang by the wrist cord only. This will serve to instantly stabilise the rotor in the same way as holding it correctly in the hand and allow you see the scrolling score with ease.

thx for all your reply really.......

but the problem isn't that i don't know the technique to holding the ball steadily to make the rotor only rotate upside-down. i can easily do this.

the point is that after the last LED extinguish, no score is displayed.....

isn't that the menu said the first LED will illuminate ONLY when 6000rpm is reached? i have already made the first one illuminate. However, it's still that many times just no score displayed....

also, i still can't understand why, why it always just display "NEW NSD POWERBALL"??..........so weird.....=.=

Generally when the Powerball continues to display "NSD POWERBALL" it indicates that you are simply not reaching sufficiently high scores.

I would suggest that you keep working with the Powerball for another few days and see if you can get the score to display. If at this stage it still fails to display the score achieved please email liz@powerballs.com who will be able to assist you further. Please include a link to this thread for reference.

may i ask that what rpm do u mean by sufficient? is it 6000 or something higher?
or do u mean everytime i need to break my previous record to ensure the score displayed?
    thx~

I'm guessing that you may be simply not reaching the required level - once you get to 6000rpm the first LED will light, but you would need to be over that to get the scores to display - if you can just keep trying to get improved scores for a few days, it will help us to see if the rotor is faulty or not.

The leds light up well below 6000 RPM, but they light up alternating. If you keep the powerball still (so that the gyro axis stops shifting) you will clearly see the leds going on and off one by one, from one side to the other. Sometimes the blue will illuminate at low speeds as well, but I haven't figured out why/when. But once you do hit 6000 rpm, the leds stop switchin on and off, only the red led on the opposite side of the blue one illuminates and stays illuminated. For every 1000k one extra led switches on, and eventually the blue one switches on when you go fast enough. When you stop spinning, they go off one by one, and when the last red led has gone out, your score pops up, starting with an arrow to show which way is up.

This is what happens when I start up the powerball, and +/- immediately start spinning for max speed. However, if I just spin for a couple of minutes at sub-6k speeds, the above process doesn't always kick in once I start going for speed. Sometimes the blue led keeps going on and off while the red leds build up, and after that I never get a score, the leds just go back to alternating when I get back below 6k.

Other times, I do not get a RPM reading but a "ROUNDS" reading that's usually pretty low, somewhere between 3500 and 3900, but I haven't figured out how to trigger this, and I don't know when he starts/stops measuring.

As you can see, I still have quite a bit of questions myself, but I'm having a great time rocking it around, lol.

It is not so difficult guys. Read the manual ;-).

    The Techno has two modes:

    Max speed
    30sec strenght index

When you keep the powerball between 2500rpm and 6000rpm the Techno will switch from Max-speed to 30sec strength index (and back again if you keep it 30secs longer).

The 30sec strength index mode can be recognised because of the blue blinking LED which then shows up. Furthermore, it is important to know that the 30sec counter is started when you pass the 6000rpm. Then 30 secs later your score will be displayed in #revs (per 30seconds).

So, the problem is...when you accelerate too slow, or when you don't reach the 6000rpm at all, the powerball will switch to the other mode.

When the Techno is started from 0, the Techno always starts in the maxspeed mode. So, one way to get rid of the strengh index mode is to let the rotor slow down, until the LEDS just switch off, and then speed it up again to go for some high speeds.

Now, go and enjoy your fantastic product!

    The Force
P.S. Owning 2 Techno's, so time for a Techno dual run
